Lovely hotel with helpful and friendly staff”
the staff of lucky hiya hotel, right from the managing director to the porters, have left us a very good impression of this lovely hotel tucked in a convenient location. frankly speaking, before we went to the hotel, we were having a low expectation of the hotel because of earlier reviews that we had read of the hotel regarding late airport pickup and other concerns. so, we were mentally prepared to go to the hotel ourselves. however, we had a pleasant surprise when we saw ali, the personnel in charge of transportation of the hotel, awaiting for us with a warm smile at the arrival hall! subsequently, the hotel staff, including their helpful and friendly director, ibrahim, have always tried to accommodate to our needs in as best a way as they can, including transfer to and fro south male atoll, internet access and converting mrf back to usd. it's a pity that they get a grade lower than one that they truly deserve. i'd highly recommend lucky hiya hotel!

Excellent staff and wonderful room”
we stayed 3 nights at lucky hiya. 2 nights in the beginning and then 1 night after our 2 night stay at an island in south male atoll. the staff, from the managing director to the porter, have been most helpful and friendly. they tried to accommodate to all our needs, including transfer to and fro to the island, internet access, change of our room, etc. it's a pity that they were under-rated for their service earlier. i'd highly recommend this hotel!

Lucky to pay so little for so much.”
Having read the other reviews, I was not expecting more than a place to sleep and leave my luggage. There was a large bedroom separated from the living room which held a small refrigerator, kettle (no cups) free bottled water and a large screen T.V., sofa and chairs and table. Admittedly the furniture had seen better days, but it was clean and cool with 2 separate air conditioners. There is NO SWIMMING POOL or POOLSIDE BAR, but I guessed this info was incorrect due to the hotels location. It is up a tiny alley 100 metres off the main drag and takes 10 minutes to get to the ferry in the heat(get the guy to carry your bags free, although tips are appreciated). The group of youths congregating at the alley entrance in the evening may put some people off but that's what young Maldivians do in the cooler evenings, plus they can direct you to good restaurants or shops. Old hotel soon to become 10 floors not 9, clean, friendly staff, cool, good location and probably the cheapest in Male for the room size and free breakfast.

Perfect for Stop-over Prior to Resort Transfer”
We decided to stay 1 night in Male City as our flight into the Maldives arrives at around 11pm, and that connection seaplane flight to our resort wasn't available until the next day. Thus, all we wanted was a decent and affordable hotel. Lucky Hiya had definitely met our expectation in this aspect. This hotel is located within walking distance to the airport ferry pier. However, it is VERY difficult to locate as it's entrance is located in an alley off a small street. The inconspicuous signs weren't helpful either. Apart from this, there's really nothing much to complain about. It's a good deal if you are just transiting at Male City like us.

- Seamless airport transfer with no extra surprises on charges in Male. - Good central location of the hotel near the main shopping lane with very helpful staff. - Our handler was great and very motivated, helping in everything from check in, airport transfer, luggage, shopping guidance and even a rooftop Maldivian bab b q. - Rooms were a bit small but great for Male one day stopover and well equiped.

Nice staff”
Basically all the hotels in Male City are quite expensive. So we tried to book a hotel with good location, good comments from other travelers with affordable price. The staff was very nice. We requested airport transfer service upon arrival and planned to pay such transfer fee upon departure. But at last, the staff took us to the airport for transferring to the resorts without charging us and even helped us to locate the resort check-in counter. Very nice.

pleasant stay, cozy hotel ”
We experienced very nice stay in Lucky Hiya Hotel. From this hotel, we can walk leisurely to find out local people' life. There is a coffee shop at the corner of hotel and football ground offering great local foods (beef fried rice/noodles with Maldivian savours). A nice guy which is the staff of this hotel was willing to drive motorbike to buy ferry tickets for us so that we could avoid terrible sunlight at noon because the ferry only starts at 3pm.

Good enough for overnight stay”
We pick this hotel for overnight stay before taking a seaplane to the main resort on the next day. In our opinion, it's good enough for overnight stay as we didn't expect things that much from this price. The hotel is not on the main road. However, it's not hard to find the hotel. There's a sign to tell you at the main road. It's about 5-10 min walk from the jetty. You can also take a taxi in case you have lot of stuff with you. The hotel stuff said that it's about USD3. One of reasons we picked Lucky Hiya is that it offers free-wifi in room as shown in the hotel information but it doesn't work at all. We had to go to lobby to get the signal and it's very slow. Quite disappointed in this point. The room is not as new as shown in the picture. We can feel lot of dust in the room as well. The stuff is helpful. They helped us to call the main resort to check about seaplane schedule. About breakfast, they said only one person was included and they would charge USD4 for another person and we were fine with that. But it's not buffet. Quite confusing how they do the service and how it works. It ends up by letting us order from menu and charge for the price shown.

standard room condition, staff freindly & helpful”
The Manager Ali gave us a very good impression, picking us up from the airport and organizing our further trips. The Hotel is hidden in a backyard, but very quiet and central location in Male. They also have BBQ on the rooftop. Room is not special, but got TV and wifi. Aircon a bit noisy.

We arrived at the hotel about 3am after our Sri Lankan Air flight was a couple of hours late leaving Colombo. Our resort had not given us any details on the forward flight to get there the next day. We fell asleep at 4am and were awakened a little after 7am from the staff knocking at our door. (We arrived from Bangkok via Colombo so we had been up all day the day before.) The person knocking was saying that we needed to be at the airport by 9. Being dead asleep I thought they meant 9 at night so we fell back asleep. They came to wake us up again stressing that it was time to go. We got dressed and went downstairs and they called a taxi for us. I have no idea how they knew about our flight to the resort when we didn't even know. But I am happy that they did. The hotel was clean and fit our needs for the 4 hours and something that we were there. And it being Maldives the price was hard to beat. Also worth knowing is that when you arrive at the airport you have to take a boat to get to the mainland where the hotel is located. I think the boat was US$2 or 20 rufiyaa (15 rufiyaa/US$1). I didn't have any change and the only place open for change at that hour was the pharmacy. I changed $20. When you arrive on the mainland you have to take a taxi to the hotel. I think I gave the taxi $3 each way, didn't negotiate or anything. On the way out of Maldives I tried to change the rufiyaa back into US$, but the bank that exchanges money there said I needed a receipt that says I exchanged it there. When I went to the pharmacy they refused to change it back to US$. I ended up using it for the Burger King that is inside the airport past security. Also on that, the Burger King outside of security is a like $1 cheaper for each item on the menu.

One Night Temporary Stay”
We were on our honeymoon trip to Maafushi island. We reached the airport on Tuesday night, and stayed in Lucky Hiya for one night before we moved to Maafushi island on the next day. We were happy with the room for the price we paid. Accessible to the town by walking. Very close to Agora store where we bought some food and drinks before went to Maafushi. Staff were nice and helpful.

Best price on the capital island Male. Clean rooms, with clean bed. Tiny room, but hey, what do you expect from an island for 1 mile long. Staff was friendly in the beginning, offered us free juice upon arrival. But DO NOT agree to any day trips at this hotel. They are way to expensive. For a day trip for 5 people to a Pip-nick island (30 min on the boat from Male), they charged 450 USD. They promised some uninhabited island with BBQ, then same day trip to the other island. In reality anyone can go to that island for a day. There is a scout girls camp there and whole bunch of other tourists during the day. It is a tiny island but it has a nice reef for snorkeling. BBQ was 1 nasty fish for 5 people and couple soda cans. Plus the manager of the hotel didn't show up in the morning of the day we discuses to have a trip. We had to chase him down to organize it next day. (We lost a day there) Next day we went to the jetties and negotiated with local boats to take us to the same island just for 130 USD per day and it is up to 30 people on the boat (dhoni). Entrance fee to the island was 10-20 USD, plus they have a small cafe there where you can order food and buy alcohol. Bring your own snorkeling gear. They have bathrooms, beach beds and showers on the island.

We just stay a day inoder for us to stop over and venture to male city before heading to airport to be check in at our island resort. Luckily, we manage to contact the hotel owner to come and pick us up or else we will find difficult to find this hotel cos it located at the backlane of the city. I will recommended to be stop over for transit to airport or either to stay a night for venture at Male city.

Excellent shortstay over before a day we fly to our island resort. When We reach airport there is no one in the resort counter to refer for my next day seaplane schedule. therefore We proceed to check in luckyhiya late about 11pm, Luckihiya staff has been very helpful to help me make call to my resort to check the next day schedule.Thumb up for them. Overall, room is clean but do not expect much as i could said this is cheapest in male island as far i could found. Just less than 10min walk to the jetty
