Dated but well maintained. Good size room with a view of a hill. Pretty surrounding area. ”
Close to train station. But not much to do around this area. No gym, no complimentary water. Good price. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Free baggage transfer to and from Kyoto is definitely a plus considering train to Kyoto is about 20 minutes from Hotel. Would stay here again.
Location is far from Kyoto station otherwise it’s very good hotel
Quiet location, but a train station is just across the street.”
Helpful staff, spacious bedroom, the lounge has variety of refreshments.
Good service , easy to find , big room ”
Although it looks far from central district , railway can go there directly. The room size is double of those busy district hotels Also , good luggage service . Hotel can free deliver your bags to Kyoto station , good for travelers
No water bottle.”
No water bottle , AC was too hot, in Dec. you sweat . Rooms are very clean . Be care-full they charge city tax which was not mentioned in Booking. Room was big. They hv luggage collection at kyoto which is very useful. You can leave your luggage there drop and pickup, so you can enjoy kyoto direct after arrival.
Excellent in many aspects!”
I visited Kyoto for the second time after 20 years. Grand Prince Hotel is right across the Kyoto International Convention Center where my meeting was held so it was an excellent choice location wise. A very tranquil environment to stay. Service was great. It's good to have both Western and Japanese style breakfast in the same place. Staff was extremely professional and helpful when I had issue with my flight back to the U.S. Perhaps the only thing I wish the hotel had is a gym. Other than that, excellent!
comfortable room and good service.
Excellent location for rest and relaxation ”
20 minutes to the centre of Kyoto. Set in beautiful countryside. Have good variety of Japanese and American breakfast. 5 minutes walk to the subway station. 5 minutes walk to the beautiful Takaragaike Park. Friendly and helpful hotel staff.
a very enjoyable older hotel with a lot of charm”
Thoroughly enjoyed the stay - hotel was very clean although some of the carpeting is a bit shabby. Food in the main dining area was always fresh and tasty. Subway is close by and makes it easy to get to downtown Kyoto.
Famous Modern architecture ”
I would recommend royal floor, because it is renovated with new beds and interiors. Even though this hotel is great modern architecture, still it is quite old. So, It is hard to imagine myself on general floor without renovated.
Good for conference but away from main city”
Ideal for conference centre stay. It's a bit away from town but the subway takes you directly to the town. Some of the rooms have a terrible smell of smoking but the Royal floor is good. Mountain views are great from the higher floor. Royal floor has more amenities in the room and decor is more pleasant too. Quite location. Very peaceful. Hotel staff are very accommodating and helpful. Kimura at reception is great with guests and speaks good English.
Great hotel a little out of the way if your planning on touring around Kyoto and going to the prefectures near by. There is a train that goes directly to the hotel but if you have a JR pass it will still cost you 290 Y one way per person.
The hotel was great!”
We speak English as our native language and had little trouble understanding and being understood by the hotel staff. They were all very friendly and always ready to be of assistance. The rooms were as large as hotel rooms in America so we were quite pleased with the whole experience. The restaurants were extremely high priced though. You should be aware of that but other options are within walking distance. The beds are very firm but comfortable and the bathrooms are large. You get a full size bottle of shampoo and conditioner and body soap so need to bring it from home. Would do again!!!!
Kyoto Luxury Oasis”
We enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere of the Grand Prince Kyoto away from heavy traffic. Afternoon tea at Pond Cafe was special treat after a long day of sightseeing. The staff was very helpful and courteous. The hotel exceeded expectations.
Bit out of town and dated - but still a good hotel”
there are not that many options in Kyoto when it comes to the cherry blossom season! So we took a punt on this hotel and despite it being a long way from town, everything is easy to get to on the subway. It's looking a bit tired these days and breakfast was a bit hit and miss but for Japan the rooms are HUGE!
Remote hotel in the middle of nowhere.”
The hotel is so remote and very difficult for tourist to visit other locations unless they are familiar with Kyoto transportation system. unless you come to Kyoto for the conference then this is the right hotel for you
serenity within Kyoto”
Our stay was very pleasant and relaxing. Having arrived from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, Kyoto was charming, authentic and a real drop in pace and your lovely hotel suited the situation perfectly. We still enjoyed full days sight seeing around Kyoto and we actually enjoyed the train trip out to Kokusaikaikan and the peaceful sanctuary of the hotel.
Old fashioned .. Awful”
Very disappointing. No room service. Awful selection in lobby restaurant, everything closed at 9, cold breakfast buffet and runny omelettes, no service at all. In the suite, had no large beds just two doubles shoved together, everything smelled of cigarette smoke
A generic hotel.”
The hotel itself is a very typical 1980s' Japanese representation of sophistication; which is to say, rather dated now. The real test of the standard of a Japanese hotel is the breakfast. It is mostly created to suit kids and Japanese old men and good coffee is hard to find. In fact I have had appalling coffee very often. So bad, in fact, it is hard to imagine how it could be so bad. But by this standard the Grand Prince was above average. Sadly, my other demand is a quiet night and that I failed to have. Either I was near some working area or my neighbours had brought dumbbells and were throwing them around until well after midnight. The rooms are large in a country where rooms are mostly pokey. The green surroundings are nice, since in Japan you are never far from concrete, and sometimes overwhelmed by it ... and this is much the same for the purportedly beautiful city of Kyoto, which is sadly mostly a dump with a few nice bits sprinkled here and there. But for those who don't notice the ugliness, the hotel is only a 15 minute subway ride away.
Quiet but close to the attractions”
The staffs are very friendly and kind. It is located at quiet environment surrounded by trees but access to the subway is just around the corner. The place where Kyoto protocol was signed is just in front of the hotel. Recommended to people who wants to have relaxing and quiet with a bit of sightseeing holiday in Kyoto.
