What a fun place to stay. The staff was older, very nice and attentive. You leave the key at the desk when going out and they knew what room you were in when you came back. Right on the water of lake Ashi, all of the rooms face the water. Great view of the tori in the water as well as the ships, boats and boat swans. The site seeing pirate ships and sleeker white boats are so close, like 50 steps and 100 steps away. The bus is so close too, the departing bus actually has a stop right in front of the hotel, but we walked the half block to the other stop to try to insure getting a seat because we thought it was the first stop, but the bus we rode actually came from somewhere else, so we could have gotten on right in front of the hotel. The second day was clear, the view of my. Fuji is spectacular, can’t see it from the hotel because of a small mountain in the way, but from in front of the seven-11, directly over the Torii is how it lines up. The walk is about 150 steps.
A little bit of Heaven on Earth...”
The location is very convenient since it is so close to a port for a sightseeing cruise, plus the Hakone Shrine and Hakone Checkpoint are within a good walking distance. Our room did face the lake, but during sunset the room did get quite hot from the amount of light pouring in, and the AC unit wasn’t very strong. The onsen was very relaxing, but once again during sunset the light can be very bright, so I couldn’t quite get the view I wanted because I was squinting. In contrast, I did go to the onsen at 6AM and the view then was serene, so I highly recommend going in the morning. The staff did not speak much English but they made up for it with customer service and care. The kaiseki dinner is must if you stay here. The dinner and breakfast were very delicious and were a great experience. Overall we enjoyed our stay and may look to staying here again if we ever make our way back to Hakone. Thank you!
Good location but overpriced ”
The staff were very warm but speak very little of English. There is a public outdoor and indoor onsen for men/women which make the onsen session enjoyable. The hotel is very near to Lake Ashi and within 5 mins walk to the spot to view Mount Fuji. The place is old and so was the room. There was an odour and stains in our bedroom toilet. The kaiseki dinner was acceptable. Overall, I find the room rates was overpriced.
Very nice breakfast and dinner, good location, but most important very good service with friendly staff.
excellent location, abundance of food”
the location cannot be better. its right by the lake, near to hakone shrine. from the onsen on the fifth floor, it overlooks the serene lake with hakone shrine tori gate clearly in sight. the food is more than enough, we had a great time having dinner and breakfast
Very friendly staff, in a tired hotel but with amazing views ”
Easy to find hotel, next to the lake with amazing views. The room is traditional Japanese style but facilities like bathroom and some furntiture was basic and very tired, worn. We opted for dinner in the room as most things close at 5pm which was a good choice. The onsen on the roof was nice and empty so enjoyed the privacy. Very welcoming staff with great English.
Wonderful stay ”
This hotel is really close with hakone jinja iriguchi bus stop. Our view is lake ashinoko. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast was delicious. You should order their kaiseki dinner. The facilities a little bit old and the bed was worn out. But still acceptable for us.
Old Building but ”
Great location! It is right by the famous lake and you can walk to the temple. View from the room was fantastic! The staffs are old, but very friendly. The town sleeps early, so there's not much to do at night save for some convenience stores.
Abit rundown but still a cosy place”
Very near to the hakone cruise. Staff was very friendly maybe because its a family business. Had dinner prepared by them and its decent. Recommended to have dinner prepared by them as shops around closes very early due to rural area.
Great traditional Japanese experience”
It was great experience visiting Hotel Musashiya in March 2019. Enjoyed a lot the location, gorgeous traditional dinner set, hotel staff is extremely friendly though a bit of more English would be a definite plus. All facilities including public places like Ibsen are very clean. WiFi is in the lobby only. Transports are really frequent and easy to access. Definitely the experience to repeat!
Great find for the price”
This is a 2 min walk from the nearest bus station and the river cruise. Definitely an older place and the bathroom is out dated but it didnt bother us at all. There is public use of the onsen/bath house on the 5th floor with a great view. All the staff are friendly and great
conveniently located 1 min walk to the bus stop”
to get around Hakone, the best option is to take public buses, this hotel is located 1 min walk from the bus stop, and has shops, resturants all within 5min walk. There is s 24 hr convenience store ( 7 eleven) nearby. This hotel has a steam bath too!
Quaint retro Ryokan with amazing views”
This hotel has clearly not changed a bit since the 1960s, hence is a little shabby around the edges, but that’s what gives it its charm. It’s a traditional Japanese hotel experience. I had booked a mountain view room but was upgraded to a lake view room with a sensational view of Hakone shrine. The staff are all lovely, elderly people who take pride in their hospitality. I had the kaiseke dinner in my room - it was not outstanding but good, with some nice seasonal touches. It was served all at once rather than in courses so went a bit cold, but it meant I had privacy to relax. Same goes for breakfast in the banquet room. Pro tip- buy local beer and sake from the 7-11 by the bus station to have with your meal, no need to order from the hotel. The onsen are lovely, the outdoor one needs tidying up a bit but the water is incredibly soothing. Do your homework and if you’re looking for a traditional experience that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time this is a good choice.
Located near lake ashi you get a nice view of the lake. The room we got was old and you can smell a damp, woody scent. The yukatas provided also show some wear and tear. One advantage is it is a good starting point for touring the area the next day.
Dated rooms but incredible service!”
Traditional Japanese rooms, amazing 10 course meal, had a wonderful stay in this authentic hotel. Particular thanks to Pan, the Taiwanese maid, who went out of her way to explain everything.
Staff were very friendly and accommodating. However, rooms needs serious upgrading. Found molds in the aircon vents, toilet did not have an updated bidet. Futons were very comfortable though!
Good location ”
Good location , convenience and very close to the prirate cruise , near by the hotel has many reataurants, staffs very nice no the room tidy and you can see lake view so this hotel worth for your money : )
Awesome location, amazing staff”
This was my mom and aunt's first time to Japan. The staff made them feel they were the most important people in the world. Not much English, but didn't need it. Breakfast was gipood, didn't do dinner. Onsen very relaxing.
Still my first option when staying at Hakone”
This is my second visit to this hotel, nothing much changed. I still enjoy their outdoor onsen although it's small since there were only 2 rooms occupied we can enjoy the onsen freely. Indoor onsen big enough for us. Number one pros for me is still the location and the hospitality pf the staff. Cons, on our second visit this year fhe price for the room much much higher than last year. Thank you for hosting us
Fantastic stay at traditional Japanese Ryokan”
It's a wonderful stay. The staff are very accommodating, polite and professional. We were so satisfied with their service. The set-meal dinner is particularly awesome. It indeed is astronomical in price but given the size, large variety and quality it's definitely worth ordering.
