Location & Service”
I truly appreciated for Mr.Gurney's help to allow us check in early after a long flight from Singapore but the only down point was the bed too small to sleep for 2 person in a bed + not enough noise protection in the room, hard for my husband as a light sleeper to sleep as the roadside very noisy with the ambulance and Fire engine alarm sound.
Loved it! ”
What a cool hotel! We found a deal online and it was much nicer than we expected. Only one suggestion - the room was lit only with a couple of lamps, and they had very dim bulbs. It would have been nice to have the option to have a little more light in the room.
Value for money”
My only feedback is that the walls between each room is very thin.
great location, nice price”
the hotel is in great aera, next to the bus station to the subway and nice dinner acrost the street. 10 min walk from union sqaure. the first room we got was very tiny, with two qoeen beds.(we were 4 people)we asked to change it, and we got a bigger room, which was ok. although the room is clean, you can feel it is old. but overall the hotel was ok.
Looks like a scene from The Shining ”
Rooms were dimly lit. No complementary water provided - as opposed to other hotels. Rooms were kinda tight, so were the bathrooms. We didn't drive but was told that parking was $45/day. Location was decent, a fair walk to union sq and westfield. Overall, average. But if you're afraid of dim old apartments, then maybe not.
Great hotel dodgy area”
This hotel was beautiful. A historic landmark surrounded by San Francisco’s homeless problem. The rooms were small due to the age of the hotel, but the beds were comfortable. The linens were a little rough but we only paid $135 a night in SF so you can’t complain too much. Everything about the hotel was accommodating, they even have secured parking( for a price). The restaurant was delicious and has a Starbucks right downstairs in the lobby. It location to metro and other public transportation was excellent ( street ads run right down market st. ). Proximity to great restaurants and bars was excellent and it’s placed in a perfect location for travel. Our only complaint was the homeless, not bashing those that are downtrodden but during the day the homeless population wasn’t bad,at night we were hesitant to stay out with our toddler past 8 and the drug use so close to a great hotel was a shame. The security does what they can but it’s a little overwhelming. Overall great hotel.
Hotel has excellent location. Not very clean. Dirty carpet. Beds were uneven and parts of it were collapsing when slept on. Room had a musty odor. Bathroom was tiny. Poor service at front desk . However the concierge was excellent and helpful. Restaurant attached had poor service, ok food. Would avoid if other choices available .
A beautiful hotel with attentive staff”
Ideally located for the LGBTQIA+/Leather/kink traveller, the Hotel Whitcomb is directly opposite Sam’s Diner, has a BART station just steps away, a leisurely half hour stroll to the Castro, and only a few blocks from Mr S Leather and Wicked Grounds. The room was clean and well presented, with beautifully comfortable beds. Some reviews have talked about street noise and safety - I heard none of the former, and though the number of homeless people is shocking, this seems like a significant issue city-wide. I did not feel unsafe walking alone, late at night, along Market St to the hotel. I anticipate returning to Hotel Whitcomb on my next visit to San Francisco.
Convenient location; Starbucks adjacent to lobby!”
Booked this hotel through Agouda. Price was good. Good location. Staff was responsive but did take a while to get the rollaway bed and extra towels but it did eventually get to us before we slept. The hotel is older but it seemed to be maintained. It reminds me of a scary movie getting off of the elevator on the floors (mirrored elevator doors, darkish hallways, etc.). The area around (outside) hotel was surprisingly clean and did not smell like urine. Either it's a really good area or SF is finally cleaning up the streets and sidewalks. I wouldn't mind coming back to this hotel. Parking is valet only; entrance is from Stevenson St off of 8th Street. It's $39; not including tax - with tax is $43.32. I can't believe there's tax on parking! I guess it's not so bad since you get to enter and exit whenever you like. Everything costs in SF!
Parking based upon size of your car 38 plus tax for small 53 plus tax for large. The staff lie to you about return of funds to your card The rooms are tiny with bathrooms smaller. Location area lots of homeless and desperate people. We were warned by police to be safe and careful that didn't instill any confidence Facilities were old and technology poor Wi-Fi was extremely slow other stores had better facilities I would not stay there again and warn others that this hotel isn't worth the time.
Nearby street so many homeless people around, need very careful when walking around.
This is a very old style.hotel. no basic amenities.like tea mak or anything in the room”
Hotel is not good for family. only location is good. our room was also not cleaned after 1st day of stay. I won't advise anyone this.
Good and Bad points”
Bad Points The bathtub is not good. No toothbrush Didn't change the bedsheet at the room service time. Not good lighting. Good points Good location. Good for public transportation. Customer service is the best. Have Starbucks and restaurant at the hotel. The bank is just a few steps away. Subway. Some restaurants and burger king is in front of the hotel. Conclusion I recommend for this hotel.
Noisy and out of date. To expensive for what you get. ”
Rooms are noisy. Heaters are very noisy and so are the surroundings. Had trouble with the door key system. Not just once but just about every time I left my room. The room needs at the least a kettle for hot water. The area around has lots of homeless people and is rife with drugs. You get asked as soon as you leave the hotel. Not the hotels fault I know but you would not go out by yourself at night. Also the wifi was crap.
Great Location to Bill Grahm”
The location to the Bill Grahm is perfect. Facilities are small for a normal room with the door opening straight into the room, small walk in closet and small bathroom. Windows are finicky but AC and heat are fine. Overall pleased with my experience. Note that parking is an extra $38 + fees a night and there is no room service but DoorDash, Uber Eats, etc. do deliver!
overall is good, especially location very close to BART station. just 30 mins from airport to this hotel by BART. staff are polite. however room is quite old style, and quite dangerous at night nearby as many black and homeless people around.
the hotel is right above Bart station so it was convenient to go anywhere. you can also walk to union square which is a pleasant 10-15min walk. there were quite a number of homeless people hanging around in the evenings but that didnt bother us much. the room is a bit dated, but well kept. the lobby area seems posh at first but it is just a simple decent hotel. there we no kettles, hot shower is nothing to brag about. the good thing about the hotel is its connectivity and good value.
Lovely hotel but small room.”
Lovely hotel...old design....historical building....but the room is small. Clean and comfortable....Starbucks is located at the lobby of the hotel....burger king is opposite the hotel....too many homeless people outside the hotel area at night....especially the park opposite the hotel. Wifi signal at the hotel is weak.
Beautiful lobby, good service, nice rooms”
Overall a nice place to stay, location is not too bad if you go by taxi or public transportation. Easy walk to great shops, restaurants and bars in Hayes Valley. Perfect location to go to shows at the Civic Center. Strangely slow check-in, we were alone and it still took longer than any hotel I have stayed in the past few years, always saw a long line.
A classic hotel ”
The staff are generally pleasant and helpful. The location is good as it's close to CBD and there is BART station near to the entrance. Overall, I'm satisfied with the services offered, including the reception and room services.
