Great Staff and Location”
The staff were very considerate and courteous, making sure we knew how to get to destinations and find the kinds of foods we wanted. The location is great for jogging around the palace and central to many buslines and the metro. Japanese breakfast was delicious!
Air conditioning issues and very dated furniture”
Location was good and the staff were great, however, overall the hotel is older and very dated. The biggest complain was the air conditioning working only very sluggishly making the room stuffy at night and one night the heat was activated centrally. I would have rated it higher if not for air conditioning issue.
Free parking, friendly staff, clean and cozy room, nice breakfast (option for western or Japanese breakfast set). Although parking close at 9pm but both day return around 10 and 11pm the friendly security still allow to get in and assist parking. Not using the facility so not sure.
Excellent value for money and service”
The location is great, staff are super friendly and the room was excellent value for money.
Ever reliable and ideally positioned”
I am an overseas traveller and have stayed at this hotel on 4 occasions. It is consistent in good service, great value and very helpful staff. Best of all it is usually the best value for money hotel. It is quiet and ideally positioned to walk across the road to the massive Imperial Palace and gardens. Love walking or exercising? Stay here and use the massive parks and gardens. Also a short walking distance to 2 stations so you can subway quickly into the CBD or change lines to visit tourist attractions. The bus system is also close by. My "go to" hotel in Kyoto.
Quiet and relaxing”
We enjoyed our stay, as previous reviews say it is a little way out of the duty, but that's great for us. There a few small shops and eating places within 10-15 minutes walk away. The hotel restaurant is pricey, but the food is good. We used taxis to get around which is expensive, but easy. It rained quite a bit, but hotel staff look after you by providing umbrellas and calling taxis. Rooms were comfortable and not too small.
Nice newly renovated hotel but far from subway”
The hotel was nice but a 10 minute walk from both the subway and the bus - somewhat inconvenient unless you plan to take a taxi. It was 2-3 stops on the subway from the downtown area. A nice hotel with a very helpful staff.
Nice hotel but inconvenient for public transport”
The hotel was nice but a 10 minute walk from both the subway and the bus - somewhat inconvenient unless you plan to cab it everywhere. It was 2-3 stops from the downtown area and where most of the nightlife and restaurants are located. A nice hotel if you do not like being in the middle of the busy city center. Staff was extremely helpful with good English and great if you enjoy a walk in the park early or late in the day.
Very clean, tidy and great staff! Great value.”
i have stayed at this hotel on two occasions. it is now a favourite. it is a classy, clean and tidy hotel with excellent staff and service. it is perfectly positioned for short subway travel from kyoto station (arrival & departure). it is well positioned for subway, rail and bus sightseeing. it is perfect if you like exercising as the imperial palace is directly across the road and its grounds and perimeter perfect for walks, runs and exercises.
A bit far from train and bus stations (at least 10 minutes walk and it's dark in the evening) but if you like walking in the morning, it's perfect as the hotel is just across the imperial palace grounds with its expansive grounds and tall trees. Luxurious bed and bath after a long day of sight-seeing, so it's a good option for laidback travellers. Not too many nearby dining options tho
Staff very Helpful, I book this for my son who need it to be there to start school so he was traveling Houston-Kyoto, but for the damage on Osaka's Airport he need to fly to Tokyo then take the train to Kyoto so he arrive very late. I call the hotel to let them know about the situation and they understood and told me that his room will be ready when he arrives.
Excellent hotel right across the street from Imperial palace.”
Great week long stay here in superior single room. Spacious, comfortable, clean and air conditioning fantastic. Staff extremely helpful and welcoming. Beautiful koi ponds out of dining windows. Main restaurant had very good Kaiseki meal. General cafe had very pedestrian poorly cooked and presented meals...did not go back to this. As breakfast was in this cafe did not try breakfast. Cafe lounge had better food but highly priced. Best choice was formal restaurant. Very small lounge area in foyer .could have had more lounges for just sitting without having to order in the cafe area.
Beautiful and comfortable”
The hotel is very conveniently located. It is cery near the subway station and but stops. It is also right across the street from the Kyoto Imperial Palace. The rooms are spacious. And I loved that the rooms have massage oil, tea and coffee for the guests.
This lovely hotel, had a surprisingly large (executive single) bedroom, and excellent facilities - including two restaurants onsite. It was located opposite the gardens of the Imperial Palace, and within 5-10 minutes easy walk of local shops, restaurants, cafes and the station, which was several stops on the Kyoto subway. (Note: The subway closes around 11.30pm!) The service from hotel staff was friendly and efficient. English language was not a problem. I would readily stay here again
Very quiet and clean. Took 10min walk to the subway station. Only hotel restaurant around.
Everything is good but just the Air conditioner is not cold.
A peaceful place for a peaceful stay”
High standard hotel and good amenities, friendly staff, clean and spacious room, the Wifi works very well and there is a small souvenirs shop in the lobby + a superb restaurant. I enjoyed being so close to the Imperial palace and take a walk in. It is worth the money.
Would Stay Again”
Pros; Great location with short walk to two subway stations Included breakfast, western or Japanese free internet Extremely clean and well maintained Helpful and responsive staff Close to university and many reasonably priced eating options Right across the street from the imperial palace and grounds Cons; No individual room climate control and windows don't open much No in-room safe. Locked valuables at safe at reception Pricey restaurant TV had no English language channels though not a problem for us Summary; Prices on this property vary wildly depending on season. We were there during peak fall foliage season and paid over $200US per night for a double bed room. However, this was in line with other properties at that time of year. We really liked the place and would stay again.
Quiet location relatively small room”
It is a decent hotel. We like it being next to the Kyoto Palace, which makes it very quiet at night. The walking distance to the subway is relatively far, room rather small too. The breakfast is simplier than what we expected, but it provides a decent good meal to start the day.
We recently stayed two nights in Kyoto. I found a great deal on Agoda.com for Kyoto Garden Palace Hotel. The hotel is 10 minutes from the Marutamachi Station and directly up Karasuma Street. While the hotel is outside of Central Kyoto, our number one must see tour was the Imperial Palace. GP is located just outside the gates of the Imperial Palace so we couldn’t have asked for a better location. Many Westerners would find the room small, but we found the room to be adequate for our needs. It was also clean and had many amenities that made our trip more enjoyable. The front desk was extremely welcoming and answered all our questions about sightseeing. I would recommend visitors to inquire about the Kyoto city bus at the front desk. The hotel provides a pamphlet on how to access and navigate Kyoto on the city bus. You can also purchase a day pass for the subway and/or city bus. Other advantages: The hotel is located 10 minutes from the bus stops. Free Wifi in the hotel room. Those in need of a quick bite to eat, the hotel is in walking distance of a McDonalds and a Nakau.
