Located in princess street near shopping center and train station.
My boyfriend and I stayed for a night on Boxing Day. We booked a room with view and got a room right in front of the big Edinburgh Christmas ferris wheel. It was a great place to do your shopping from too.
Located in Princes Street, the heart of Edinburgh.”
We chose this hotel because it is situated in Princes Street. The heart of Edinburgh city. It is within walking distance to Waverley Station, and also Edinburgh Castle (the main attraction in the City). The price is also affordable. We really enjoyed our stay in the Hotel and Edinburgh City. Definitely will come back and recommend our colleagues.
Everything was so poor except the location right on Princes st.”
Staff were not very polite and without service mind. Hotel has no lobby, no waiting area. Room was old with poor maintenance. Bathroom was smelly from the damp bath curtain. We found out that the wash basin was clogged and it wasn't get fixed even after notifying the staff at the front. Breakfast was poor. This is truly a 1 star hotel.
The hotel location is excellent. Easy access to all the store.
Wonderful views from the windows
Great view, convenient location, just a bit expensive”
Morning buffet spread does not have a wide variety
Really good location, castle and old town on your doorstep. Unfortunately no parking so end up paying extra £21 for parking 10min walkway which wasn’t ideal as we had couple heavy suitcases. Although when i was choosing the hotel on website it was mentioned that it does have parking. Overall good stay.
excellent location in prime district of Edinburgh”
the hotel, no doubt appears run down, deserves praises for cleanliness. housekeepers strive to keep aged rooms clean and comfortable. location of the hotel is excellent - right in the heart of the prime district of Edinburgh. this makes walking possible to all tourist attractions. all the shopping is along the same stretch as well. breakfast is good in terms of taste and options.
Great location; but, some improvements could be made”
We stayed at this hotel on two occasions, totaling 5 nights; for us, it was perfectly situated for sightseeing, catching local tours, and taking the train. The breakfasts were very nice, and the hotel was clean and generally well maintained. One drawback that we observed and experienced was that some rooms are quite small for the beds, with insufficient space to place your suitcases. Other minor, but fixable, things: the sink hot water faucet produced water so scalding that you couldn't even wash your hands in it; the rooms may lack a clock (much less an alarm clock); and, only one elevator seemed to acknowledge our floor button when you pushed it. On the whole, though, we would definitely recommend this hotel.
Unfriendly staff, not helpful, no support ”
The front desk staff was totally not helpful. We first stayed at the hotel the first bite, then we needed to stay at Highland for one evening and wished to leave our huge luggages in the hotel for one evening. We would return to stay at the hotel for the following evening. Yet, the front desk staff just rejected us rudely, and asked us to put them in the railway station. The time was 7:30a at that time and we need to arrive the check-in counter near the Edinburgh Castle at 8:15a. This was totally an awful experience. In a nutshell, just please assume the staffs there will not help their guests no matter what situation.
ok for a quick visit ”
good location, fairly good to spend a day or two , is not the hotel you came to see in edinburgh is the city , if you need a good place where to sleep this is one of them. staff can improve a little bit in the food area. training what people want.
weekend get away”
really great base to site see from , the staff were so helpful the room were clean tidy and equipped with the necessary bits and bobs . I needed an iron and board upon my return to the room there they were no fuss and no dramas We would return to this hotel again without hesitation.
Superb Location for Shopping, Bar/Rest, Castle, ”
Request to change badly cracked leaking kettle was ignored by reception staff with water leaking directly over socket! And reminded them again when we left. Shower curtain smelt foisty. Decor dated being old but acceptable! Fried eggs and yolks always like hard rubber! Haggis not topped up daily When finished. Reception staff not paying attention at all to baggage room. Anybody could touch anybody's or even plant something dangerous considering so many nationalities were in and out. Breakfast staff terribly disorganised! Lovely hotel but all staff needed serious training or replacement.
Great Central Location”
Our stay was great as the hotel was very central. However, being on the 5th floor and despite being -4 degrees Celsius outside, the room was like a sauna, despite having no radiator and leaving the window open. Hotel was quiet in the rooms which was also nice
The Best of All”
It was a memorable experience staying with them. The hotel was in the centre of all touristy spots. I was amazed by the superb view of the Edinburgh Castle. The friendliness of the staff is beyond commendable. Additionally, the room is pretty cozy for both solo and business travellers. I have stayed here twice and I am going to stay here again in January!
Great weekend stay”
Great location on Princes Street, close to station and tram to airport. Lovely view of castle and Royal Mile. Easy walking distance to many places of interest and superb shopping. Room was very clean and bathroom spotless. Well maintained. All in all a good hotel. A safe in the room would be a good addition.
comfortable and nice scenary”
it was a wonderful experience because we could walk through Princes Street Garden, the famous garden in front of the hotel. Moreover, it was spring and all the flowers are blooming. we could walk to Edinburgh Castle and other famous sight seeing places in one day.
The Great Welcome Hotel of Edinburgh”
This visit was our fourth time and we never find any problems or faults with the establishment. My wife was supplied with a smoke alarm vibrator which is always useful. We have no serious issues against Mercure. We shall be coming back in 2014.
Very good hotel”
Very happy with this hotel. From our room, we can see the panorama view of Edinburgh old town and the castle. Very close to the main station and city center. The room and the cleanliness was excellent.
