Great location, but Unfriendly Staff”
If you're a holiday reveler during the Songkran Festival and an avid fan of water fights within the Silom area, then this hotel is for you. Very convenient location. Cafes (Starbucks, Coffee Company, etc.) fastfood, hawkers' areas, money changers, police station, clubs, and bars are within reach and just a few seconds walk away. The hotel is old, gives you the feeling that you have been trapped in the late '70s or early '80s and the exterior of the building and the lifts have seen better days. Nonetheless, the bathrooms, rooms, carpets and bedsheets are clean and well-kept. The downside are the unreliable wifi service and the not-so-friendly staff. Surprisingly, not everyone in the concierge speak English and you would be lucky if anyone from the reception area greets you with a smile. They treat guests with suspicion and grits their teeth while they ask for your passport and goes through the litany of do's and don't's as if you have never travelled in your lifetime.
The hotel rooms are a good size, and the swimming pool is big and unusually deep by recent standards. Although the hotel is dated it is reasonably well maintained, and kept clean. The bath was good but the shower was bad with poor pressure. Staff are friendly and the service is good. Transport connections are good, with Saladaeng BTS a 10 min walk and Sam Yan MRT a 10 min walk. About 30 min walk to Siam Square or Central World. Hotel is right opposite Patpong which is handy for the, er, night market. I think the hotel is generally a fair deal at the price.
PLEASE CONSIDER INSTALLING BIDETS IN THE BATHROOM”
As you may know, everybody wants a comfortable room with a nice bathroom but the toilet bowl is not as wide and yet NO BIDET!!! Every hotel now has it even the cheaper ones, so I hope you consider installing your bathrooms too! I love the hotel but having no bidets is a big turn down!
Great location; good value for money”
This is right in the center of the Surawong/Silom nightlife, next to Le Meridien Hotel. It is quite dated but clean and has big rooms. There is nice cafe with the best Hainanese chicken dish ever. There is a also a pool and gym area. WIFI access is only free for 24 hours which is a bummer.
Good location in Silom, problem with bathroom drainage though”
Pros - convenient location in Silom area of Bangkok; accessible to sky train, underground, taxis and buses; also on doorstep to Patpong Market, shops and numerous eateries. Large room with decent bed and plenty of cupboard spaces, tables, etc.; room safe; gowns and slippers; shower-bathtub setup; many useful toiletries provided. Swimming pool decent size. Cons - mainly the poor drainage in the bathroom tub and sink and using the lever switching between tap and shower. Overall a pleasant stay.
We really enjoyed our stay at The Montien Hotel. The room was very large with very comfortable bed. The only thing i found was that the plumbing seems to have a problem and when another guest was using the shower there was a terrible sound of air trapped in the pipes. This was especially annoying when someone took a shower early morning or late at night. The hotel is in a great central location close to the night clubs, street market and the city railway. There is a station about 10 minutes walk from hotel and the railway is fast, cheap. and easy to use. We would recommend this hotel and happy to stay there again in the future!!
Old hotel but great location & affordable price ”
After trying at another hotel during my June trip, I returned this trip to Montein Hotel Bangkok. Checked in was great & fast with room was high floor & king bed in my preferred new building. Male cashier still need to be trained to be friendlier when guest ask to change money, the same problem I encountered during previous stay. Overall have a great stay
Sometimes older is best”
I believe this Montien is the oldest surviving hotel in Bangkok. Well maintained and mostly in its original form. Unbelievable value and great location. A true throwback to how hotels used to be and what they offered, which they sadly are no more.
Recommended but with reservations”
I live in Bangkok and wanted to get away from the noise and water-splashing on my street from the Thai Songran holiday. Cleanliness was very good. It is an older hotel with older staff. The Chinese restaurant and the "main" Coffee Shop share the same kitchen. Had 2 dinners at the coffee shop and I rate both dinners and service 2-stars out of 5. They are expensive for what you get. Restaurant staff is inattentive. Older cleaning lady was very friendly and efficient
Comfort in Central Silom”
When we arrived after a long night flight, we were told that we'd have to wait a couple of hours for our room to be ready. Not a great start and I vowed then to get my revenge by writing a bad review. However, after pointing out our fatigue, a room was quickly found for us. And what a nice and spacious room it was, well supplied with towels and toiletries, with two comfortable beds and lots of storage space. The location is perfect, the staff helpful and polite. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to to discerning traveller who wishes for quiet and comfort in downtown Silom.
This hotel is Old and not maintained well”
Hotel is Old and smells bad. Many issues with bathroom called multiple times. Fitness equipment is very old. Finally gave up checked out early, Management biggest concern was to make sure I understood I would NOT receive a refund on days I had pre-paid.
Well, Nice interior but somehow the room lacks the look for this price. Internet was pathetic in the room and the worst part for this hotel is that they charge you for the 3rd device connected to wifi. what a rule!! Room was clean and nice though. location is just okay.
Nice hotel and good location”
Nice hotel, well maintenance... excepted the wifi did not work in my room on 9th floor. I complained to “ A boy” receptionist after checked in and He answered: “You have to access the wifi at the lobby before entering the room...Sorry” and he seem ignore me then, it’s was very irritating me. All other staffs are friendly and polite excepting that guy . He was so rude in conversation to me in everytime I leave/receive my room key . The hotel manager should give him a warning what He deserve ! Thanks
Near night marker. No unbrella”
This hotel has been a really nice one but now it's getting a little bit old. It still has a nice atmosphere. Razzak (man with a big hat) is very nice. The rooms are nice and well-equipped. The lady at the pool is friendly and helpful. Breakfast is too expensive and you may buy it much cheaper at 7-Eleven. the hotel doesn't provide you with umbrella that is a really bad.
Good but older hotel, food and drinks overpriced”
The hotel is nice but could use some tlc, Beds, aircon, room is good. Swimming pool is nice but ordering drinks and food is compared to other hotels and restaurants overpriced. A coconut drink is 185 baht which in other hotels in the area is about 85. Food about 390 normally around 200. It makes you order less and find alternatives outside which are plenty. But at the swimming pool it becomes a question if you do not care about the prices or you think it is expensive which takes away a bit of the joy.
good value hotel centrally located in Bangkok”
I have stayed at the Montien hotel many times over the past 30 plus years, it is a good value hotel in a good location. Ihave also stayed at many other hotels in Bangkok, but inevitably always return back to the Montien Hotel.
Good location. ”
Best part of this hotel is location, easily accessible to MRT SamYan behind with 5min walk and SalaDaeng BTS in front within 10min walk. Cons: water poured onto floor with each shower despite curtains.
The hotel is almost across the street from the famous night market and is close to the subway and sky train. I have found that the rooms are not in good condition since I almost always have plumbing problems and the rooms also could be cleaner.
Old Property with Good Location ”
Need to work on guest recognition & preference for return guests, Otherwise will be out run by competitors & new hotels
Great Value ”
All round great value stay at this hotel, great welcome from bellboy who very friendly and cheerful. Only downfall is arriving at 8.45am and having to wait till 11.30am for room as think they should have rooms available as tbh did not look that busy.
