Excellent location and right next to the a lot of exciting activities and shops around ”
A clean hotel with a fantastic location on Assi ghat. Only wished the room had a view of the ghat and/or river. I had hoped and assumed that would be the case. Was told if i had called ahead for that it could have been the case. But the location was great with good attentive staff. The breakfast was okay. Not great but okay and hygienic. Would recommend overall to other visitors.
Needs updating! Not worth the price.”
This place has so much potential but needs work . Firstly, the bathrooms are all horribly moldy which is why there is “air freshener “. You can see all the mold growing all over the walls (there are no fans or windows in the bathroom). The WiFi is weak and you have to keep signing in. I had one hot shower in four days ( at 11pm at night after I asked what was going on with the water). The front desk called and asked for the boiler to be turned on. I am not sure why it is not always turned on so that the guests can have hot showers! The breakfast is appalling , the “buffet” is not tasty , never changes and is cheap . Also it is served in a dingy basement which makes no sense as there is a rooftop restaurant. I never ate in the restaurant because breakfast was so bad! Not all rooms are equal here , most have two tiny twin beds (one older lady told me at breakfast that she fell out of bed multiple times in the night) . They tried to give me and my tall husband these tiny beds and only after I proved that I had requested a large bed in the booking did they move us to a double. (Which was next to the check in counter and incredibly noisey! The room we eventually got the next day was much better (208) and I was much more comfortable there but the bathroom was incredibly moldy. Also be warned that they charge excessively for airport pickup (1100 rupees). It’s such s shame as this place has all the potential to be so lovely ! Just not worth the price .
It’s a few steps away from the Ganges river. It’s a charming 130-year old building equipped with the basics for a good rest. Most times, you would need to keep on asking them for the same thing. Like I asked them twice for the laundry, twice for a tissue roll, thrice for the extra bed, and thrice for an extra towel. They just don’t do it. I needed to be at the front desk for them to move.
Quality hotel in a good location.”
The hotel offers sanctuary in the chaos that is Varanasi. All areas are well finished and attractive. Food is mainly Indian but breakfast offers eggs any style. The location is on the steps of the Ghats and allows easy access to either boats or walking. There is work opposite which is currently muddy but that is temporary. Good hotel and although not cheap, is value for money.
Wonderful smaller colonial hotel in an excellent location in Assi ghat, just steps away from the Ganges. Nicely decorated, clean and spacious room. Great buffet breakfast and a rooftop restaurant. Staff were very helpful with every request, oh and take any of the private walking / river tours with Pappu ... worth the money. Recommended !
Hotel is poor value. While it's location near the Assignment Ghat is nice, there are no real views from the hotel. Staff is excellent; however, the standard of the hotel is quite poor. Much nicer, cleaner options are available for less money a little ways from the river.
Great location ”
Great location breakfast not that great rooms small and a bit cramped most of the rooms with Zero view but location counters all the above negative points
Great location ...terrible place to stay”
Bad room Hard beds Dirty room Dirty towels Not accommodating
Overpriced hotel with some poor managers.”
The head manager was a very upright and pleasant person, but the one we talked to most of the time was somewhat rude and dismissive, trying to sell us overpriced tours to local areas. They both offered us help to get sim cards, but ended up sending us on a wild goose chase that took a lot of time among shop keepers that claimed not to speak English. The hotel seemed convinced that it would be easy, which it wasn't, so it made me lose confidence in whatever else they would say. We paid full price for this, needing a good place to recharge, and it fell quite short of expectations. There was hot water the whole time, which was good, but room service didn't clean our rooms. It was a cold room in January. The laundry service was quite expensive, and they tried to charge us extra for express service, even though we asked for regular 1-day service, and it took 2 days to get done (and some things were still a bit wet afterward). Would not recommend. (ran out of text room)
Comfortable on the Ghats”
Varanasi can be a tough place to stay, and directly on the ghats?! Palace on Ganges was comfortable and provided what we needed. Some of the rooms are a bit small, but considering we made a last minute change, the staff was accommodating. The breakfast was delicious, and the staff helped to coordinate some of our site-seeing. It might be a little on the pricey side. However, the location is the best! It’s calm at night, but also an end point so easy to go up the the river.
Nice play to stay, great location, food ok”
Agoda misrepresented this booking. It said one price for a triple and list the three bed types. Then when wentnto book it was more expensive because they then charged us for the third bed. When we got there none of their rooms had three beds and first wanted to Hamm us in a very small room. Finally, the gave us a decent size room and actually set up a throw bed. They treated us to dinner at the hotel to try and make up for it. We got a huge discount in Agoda and ended up being a very nice place to stay. Nice shops and a few cafes near by. Very close to The Ganges and we had a lovely walk along the river. Do the Arti ceremony and rent the boat to watch it from the river. It is worth it and a must.
We stayed here for 2 nights in March 2016. The hotel has a fabulous location and is perfectly placed to explore the ghats. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The rooftop restaurant served good quality food at a reasonable price. The reception staff were extremely helpful and organised sunset and sunrise boat trips on the Ganges and transport to and from the airport at very reasonable rates. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay in this quirky hotel.
Good food for breakfast and dinner. Nice personable hotel with friendly staff who are flexible and willing to help. AT Assi Ghat so a nice 20 minute walk down the length of all the ghats, allowing a better experience than just sticking to the two central areas. No hot water for two days which was a bit of a let down and did affect the overall enjoyment however the staff compensated by bringing large buckets of piping hot water :-)
We enjoyed our stay. Vanarasi is like nowhere else on this earth, and this Hotel is right on its cusp. You can walk straight out the door and you are you have the Ganges at your doorstep. The hotel is very clean comfortable. I would stay there again. Recommended.
Well located, clean secure rooms and helpful staff”
Really enjoyed the stay here. Location is really handy and feels more relaxed than the main Ghat areas. Rooms are each different and the standard of the upgrade to the building is high. Comfortable bed although linen was badly pilled. I'm sure if I had asked it would have been replaced - but wasn't important enough to worry about. Rooftop area nice - although no views when sitting having meals. Met other interesting travellers at breakfast because tables can be communal. Highly recommend for both it's charm generally and it's excellent location.
comfortable and easy access to all attractions”
I throughly enjoyed my stay at the Palace, the staff were welcoming and very helpful. The hotel is in such a good location, taxi right to the door and the ghats are right there. Loved walking along the ghats for hours. Was in room 107 had a window no view just a white brick wall which didnt bother me the action is outside and very quiet. The room was very clean and nicely decorated in warm colours. I highly recommend this hotel right on the ganges and would stay here again.
Perfect. The only complaint I may have is the Agoda-hotel-deal, which made it impossible to have me refunded a cancelled third night – which cancelled more then 3 days before the actual night. That is a much too good deal for a hotel which will never have difficulties to find guests, and to fill up the vacant room again.
Pleasant, near Ganges, air conditioned”
Pleasant, quiet and clean stay in a chaotic and dirty city. Food was good standard, staff was friendly. Ganges was high up to the hotel and entrance was only possible over the back roof tops, but service was good. Colonial room had great view onto the ghat.
Great location but over priced”
The hotel was quite nice, very clean and the rooms were of a good standard. The location was excellent only a short walk to Assi Ghat, although if you want to walk to main ghatt its about 30 minutes along the river or a 20 minute tuk tuk ride. I wopuld stay here for l i felt it was over priced. There are hotels with a better view, closer to the river and with much more atmosphere for less.
Good hotel and great service.”
we arrived 5 hours before check in but they were able to sort us out. the room was comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. location is excellent for exploring the ghatts and it was nice to use the roof garden to watch everything go on but not be in it! reception was able to sort out boat trips on the ganges, taxis and trips to sarnath. the staff were polite and nothing was too much trouble. food was ok and the live music of an evening was a nice touch. all in all a good stay!
