Lovely hotel by the sea”
We stayed here for 4 nights relaxation at the end of our holiday. This hotel was a great choice - all the staff so helpful, very relaxed vibe, beautiful rooms, two lovely pools and great sea views. You can't swim in the sea, but my favourite part of the hotel was lovely beach area they have made, which they light up at night, and the fabulous sea pool, which is cleaned all the time by the waves washing in and out and is teeming with different species of fish - so much fun to paddle in. The buffet breakfast was very good and the restaurant food also good, although on the pricey side. They run a free tuk-tuk shuttle to their sister hotels - one which has a 'jungle' concept and has a beautiful pool surrounded by trees, great for the very hot days, and the other on the beach, where the staff also take great care to look after guests - sunloungers, towels, drinks etc. The beach restaurant is beautifully located and has reasonable prices and tasty fresh seafood.
Issues -Couldn't get Wifi to work in our room. -Couldn't get clean towels in the morning. We were told that they will be only be provided after 10am. -No water kettle in the room Good -Good location -Many staff ready to help.
Nice stay. ”
This hotel was nice. A bit expensive. Says it has a private beach. It’s literally a patch of sand with a rock pool. Can’t swim. Very noisy at night time. Especially the dogs. Ask for a room away from all the barking.
Lovely modern hotel”
We traveled with our 1 year old and overall really enjoyed our stay. The staff are extremely accommodating and friendly and they really go the extra mile. Food was great and the breakfast buffet was varied. The only two things that were disappointing were that the kids playroom smelt very bad (musty and wet) and there is a dangerous slippery ledge all around the edge of the pool. This is obviously not ideal with children entering and exiting the pool. The pool is stunning tho and the view is lovely. The massage service offered is absolutely wonderful and a must-do. We would stay again.
Ideal Recovery Location”
I always try to have a couple of days to recover after a long flight and many hours to get to my destination. We had decided to settle first near Galle and although we didn't realise this hotel was a few kms from the city it didn't matter. The arrival was a warm greeting and easy. The room was very comfortable and well proportioned with a view of the sea over roof tops. For us all we really wanted was somewhere to gather ourselves in comfort and this place suited our needs perfectly, friendly staff, nice grounds, big pool, good food. The hotel arranged a car for us on our second day to take us to Galle and the driver showed us the sights, was very helpful and charming. In retrospect I think I might have chosen to stay actually in Galle as the hotel is out of the way a bit but for the 2 days we had there it was ideal.
Great hotel, a pleasant surprise.”
The hotel is really great, entered was attracted by the sea. Hotel staff is very enthusiastic, swimming pool and the sea is one of the, natural. Restaurant of the hotel is good and not expensive. Beside the hotel is the beach, almost no what people, My son in the play of very happy, such as Sri Lanka again, I must in the hotel stay a few more days and really enjoy it.
nice and comfortable hotel stay ”
We had a very comfortable stay at Thaproban. Our room and bathroom was spacious; clean and bed was comfortable and nice. We had a nice balcony- just that it is a shame we were not seaview facing and had a construction building in front instead. Service staff were also polite and patient. The hotel isn't exactly at the Unawatuna beach-- it is about ten minutes walk away; which is okay in the day but by night; the way back gets a little too dark as there are almost no street lamps along the way.
Charming and individual”
I had a fabulous stay over New Years eve 2014/15. I cannot fault the attentive service nor 90% of the facilities. I also liked the location which was 5 mins easy straight walk to the beach in one direction and 7 minute meander to the village in the other. It was peak season but I felt the room rate was rather ambitious, additionally the gym facilities are in desperate need of maintenance or better still, replacement. They are old and rusty and pull down the overall score for this hotel. Toilet flush also very poor. I would return and would recommend but I would not pay peak season prices again and also due to the gym I would call this a 4.5 star product
It was one of the best Holidays!”
We had a great stay at this hotel it was a last minute decision to visit Unawatuna for a holiday and it was well worth the decision, the hotel was more than we expected, the rooms were clean and well maintained, the pool and the private beach area was very calm and you only hear the sound of the waves, The evening atmosphere is the best! I will definitely return again!!
Virs vidējā līmeņa”
The location and facilities are great and having access to the beachhouse is great. However, for the leave of advice and efficiency it is a bit over priced. My room was not secured properly and for three days they had no pool towels until very late in the day. The room was also not clean. It has huge potential but it is not living up to it at the moment.
Thaproban Pavilion Resort & Spa is brilliant. The view from our room overlooked the pool and the sea. There were two swimming pools we spent most of our time in. The resort has a nicely stocked bar and a great restaurant with amazing breakfast and lunch. The spa has a good collection of massage therapies. The staff was friendly and helpful. Beaches in the neighborhood were just a tuk tuk ride away. The resort is peaceful and far away from the chaos. A great getaway for the family as well as for couples or friends.
Nice hotel. No sandy beach but superb views of rocky beaches from the rooms and balcony.”
Staff was extremely courteous and catered to our request for Srilankan egg hopper and string hopper breakfast. My son enjoyed the pool thoroughly. The only small drawback is access to sandy beach is from the outside and is a small 15 minute walk...but room sizes are great... bathrooms are clean... room service is fantastic 😊
Horrible experience ”
This is one of the worst resort here Not suggested for stay at all. We reached the hotel by 1 am, and we were made to wait for 1 hour in the midnight and the hotel watchman was commanding the receptionist, and he was not allowing us to park the car in the hotel and he was preventing the driver from even using the washroom (here it seems only watchman decides everything and the receptionist is only a puppet). Very bad experience and not Recommended for stay at all. Rooms were also not up to standard and food was bad
Dear Mr. Sanjeev, Thank you very much for sharing your sincere thoughts and constructive critic which is considered with utmost respect. Your encouraging feedback is extremely valuable to us, as we strive to improve with each and every day. The security briefed the driver not to park right in front of the hotel entrance but in the designated car park next door. However please accept our sincere apology for any inconvenience caused due to same. You and the family were very happy with the breakfast when I check your satisfaction and wonder what led you towards a negative comment on our quality food. We did a very close look on your check in process through our CCTV cameras and it is proven Your room was ready way before the arrival but you are the one who refused to go to room till we provide the driver’s accommodation and shouted at hotel staff using high degree of abusive language which was the worst ever words I came across during my entire hotel career. CCTV cameras clearly sho
Everything is excellent, just that it's not located on the beach, it's has a lovely swimming pool though. if you want to go to the beach it's a 10-15 mins walk. They has another property Thoproban Beach house is guess, it has excellent location, and love beach restaurant, but no pool. we had our dinner there. Best staff in Unawatuna.
Dear Aditya, Thank you for your review, We are pleased to read your comments and appreciate your rating of 8.8 for the hotel. Our location is away from the main beach like you said 10 - 15 minute short walk, which is actually a good thing as our guests are in a complete privacy location away from the hustle and bustle of the main beach :) Our swimming pool is a eye catcher and our guests enjoy it very much. We hope to welcome you back to Thaproban Pavilion Resort and Spa in the future. Thank you, The Management.
Dreadful NYE stay and definitely not worth USD240 per night that we paid”
We expected room rates to be higher for NYE but this was a ripoff. Pictures looked good online but felt like we were sleeping in a dusty construction site. Most decent hotels would at least highlight the construction to guests before booking. I'm allergic to dust and wouldn't have booked this. - Room was recently completed and was extremely dusty - ongoing construction in the hotel, so there was a wave of bad odor from the site every time we opened our door - floor was coated with some layer of residue / oil from disinfectant / chemical so there were prints when we walked around the room and bottom of bedroom slippers turned brown. The white bathroom floor also turned brown when wet. - Despite asking for the room to be cleaned thoroughly, it remained very dirty throughout our 2 night stay - bathroom had construction dust on the towel racks, walls, glass divider, etc so towels became dusty - to top it all, there was no phone in the room to call for assistance!!
We are sad to hear the hotel did not work for you. Yes we had construction occurring in our new wing however all this is now complete, due to bad weather in the country during September / October 2017 our targeted date was dragged further and due to this we had this issue, However the hotel is fully operational now with 0% construction. Again, everyone here is working hard to deliver seamless interactions. For having failed you we are very sorry.
Dirty hotel and construction going on with loud noise ”
Hotel room and food was way way way overpriced for this level of cleanliness and staff were slow and construction work so noisy. I can’t believe we paid this much for this kind of room - the bathroom was dirty, towels not replaced, housekeeping slow, breakfast selection very average and food was over priced - I will never stay again and in fact complained to the manager but not much was done
Dear Guest, We had construction going on in December 2017 and we are proud to announce that all constructions are over and we are fully operational. Our guests are experiencing a very quiet environment and a very unique one!
Overpriced for Facilities ”
Closer to sea, however it is rocky and there is no beach. Need to walk approximately for 10 minutes to reach Unawatuna beach. Hotel is new and architecture is nice and the view from room was nice. Those are the only plus points. I felt it is over priced for the service provided. I experienced following issues during my stay: a) hot water supply was not regular, even though I informed the staff, it was not rectified b) there was no phone inside the room, had to go down to lobby for room service c) staff lacks professionalism - Day 1: it was raining when I reached hotel and I had to go inside and ask for an umbrella Day 2 : I was woken up at 5.30 am one staff member knocking the door to ask whether I requested a towel d) lift was not working e) swimming pool was not clean f) part of the hotel is still under construction - therefore it is noisy
Dear Guest, Our hotel is with a private beach which is not accessible for outsiders other than the hotel guests. Our beach is show in the hotel photos and this is the exact product we offer! All our rooms are equipped with phones, hot water issue has been rectified. Our contraction has ended in December 2017 and the hotel is fully operational with out any construction noise.
Looks abandoned and dirty”
Great location to chill and feel the sea breeze. However a lot of broken furniture, peeling paint. Dirty furniture. Terrible old soft mattress. Spa locked up. Spa had dirty windows and no staff present. Door locked and broken rattan furniture inside. Food is extremely average. Can't recommend this one
Dear Guest, We hope you give us a second chance. Rest assured we won't disappoint. Our hotel is now fully operational with many upgrades with our new wing. Two swimming pools, ocean view Spa, kids play area. You will see a totally different hotel and im sure you will enjoy your stay with us.
We travelled to Unawatuna with our 8 month old and the staff did absolutely everything to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. We were upgraded to a 2 bed villa which was just what we needed when it came to nap time for our litttle boy. We also enjoyed the pool (lack of shade was an issue however with only sparsely spaced out stationary umbrellas), which backs right onto the ocean with the wonderful sound and sight of crashing waves onto the rocks out the back. A short 5-10 min walk into the main street meant we were always nice and close to the "hussle and bustle", beac restauratns etc, however we just as often ate at the hotel restaurant which was although a touch pricier than the beach places, the food was great, and we could eat in the restaurant, out by the pool/rocks or in our room... All in all a wonderful experience i would recommend to anyone.
Room. Staff. Value for money.”
Rooms were big n clean with Good view. They have there own small private beach. Nice rocky beach front. Staff very helpful n friendly. Good choice of vegan food. Good Location.
