The location is a bit off. The rooms seems a bit out dated and old.”
We just stayed for a night to visit Karuizawa. Initially, selected for the Prince brand. Unfortunately the rooms seems a bit old. The view to a small lake and the golf course is nice. The onsen facility is only available at the Easy Hotel, a bit inconvenience to use at night even though they have a shuttle bus service.
Good for self drive”
We were foreigners and rented a car driving from Haneda to Karuizawa. A couple with one young child. The driving was about 4 hours, including the time spent in R&R. Many R&Rs with clean restrooms and nice food court along the journey. The Prince Karuizawa is a big complex with The Prince Karuizawa Hotel, Hotel East, Hotel West, Shopping Plaza, Golf course, skiing resort, etc. We stayed in The Prince Karuizawa Hotel which is at the Golf course area. Pros: - A very quiet and tranquil place. It faces the Golf course with a small lake in front of the room’s full size window. - Room is spacious and has a small kitchenette. Bath tub is very clean. Bath salt and amenities are supplied sufficiently. - Free bicycle rental for both adults & children. The cycling path is nature feel but hotel shuttles may pass by. Therefore need to be cautious. - The breakfast is great. The restaurant inside this hotel building has a fantastic view. Food is good. You can also choose other restaurants in the West or East hotels. - The shopping plaza has many brands and every shop is decorated nicely. The items are trendy. Very good shopping experience there. The food there is also good and price reasonable. - The Onsen is great because it’s very clean and comfortable. It’s not big but very cosy. Water dispenser with hot and cold water for drinking. Our 4 years old daughter loved the hot spring very much. Cons: - However, the Onsen is at the East hotel which is about 6 mins driving. Otherwise you need to take hotel shuttle. In cold weather, it’s not so enjoying to walk that much. - The shopping plaza is also walking distance from the East hotel. The train station is also nearer to the East. Thus I would prefer to stay in the East if there is another time! - We arrived in April. It’s still very cold and the trees are barren. Not greenery at all. Overall, I still like Karuizawa because it has both sceneries, Onsen and shopping but think Summer/Autumn time should be better season there.
Relaxing and Romantic”
We really enjoyed our stay here. Convenient that there are free shuttle buses to and from the hotel (to the train station, outlet mall, spa-onsen, ski areas). The staff were very friendly and professional. The room was big and the beds were very comfy. Not the newest rooms, but they had everything we needed. Nice view also, especially during breakfast. Best to go early during breakfast (sit-down not buffet, but the cutlery was very nice and the service felt very professional) so you can have seats facing the lake and mountain. The fireplace was a unique experience for us. Log-cabin feels. All in all a great time!
Fantastic experience, highly recommend”
Staff were professional, friendly and welcoming (especially Hotel's guests van driver) Exceptional view from the three rooms we booked (rooms were spacious). Small shuttle buses are available from the train station every 30 mins or so within walking distance and stop right in front of the hotel. Buffet breakfast was great at the New York (Hotel West). Overall a fantastic experience, will book for longer stay next time. Thank you Prince Karuizawa Hotel.
Bad service at breakfast restaurant”
Bad service at breakfast restaurant, Waiter taking order and have new guest enter restaurant then leave us and take a new guest. Evaluate as a unacceptable behavior for the hotel.
Need urgent renovation.”
Hotel quality is ok, but need some renovation. Our room was too far from the Lobby. We asked for a non-smoking rooms but were not available. We found some cigarette smell. Not the best luck for us. No room service after 9 pm and all the restaurants close very early.
A very beautiful hotel in a scenic location, with excellent servuce and warmth”
The rooms at The Prince were spacious and the beds were big . The pantry and bath were also very spacious, they were the size of the room we had in Tokyo! There was also a big sofa area in front of full length windows which looked out to a small pond, very scenic and we had a great view of trees and the ducks and birds around the pond, right from our room. We had come to look at the sakuras but the weather was still too cold even in second week of April, we saw snow everywhere no sakuras in sight here at Karuizawa yet. The hotel services and amenities were great. I was so thankful that we could leave our heavy luggage at the customer service at the mall / train station, so that we could go and shop. The bags were then delivered to our room before we arrived at the hotel. Equally thankful for the great shuttle bus service that loops the resort, so that we could go to and from the train station, the shops, the hot spring without worry. Do take note of time table though.
We went on a crowded day where cars were jammed once we were in karuizawa, the GPS directed to main roads where it took us 1 hour to travel like 2km. However, once we know the way, we can avoid those routes and can move more easily around the hotel. The surroundings around the hotel is beautiful, the room facing the golf course and pond is picturesque. Room is of good size, although may not be newly built but bathrooms and bed are quite clean. We don’t see tired decos. Only 1 staff with good English but she weren’t there we when arrived the first day. Another staff who try to assist us with our bike is polite and patient, try to speak English....we can communicate with him. The breakfast arrangement is not too flexible, confused as to needing prebooking or not. Location, need to travel via shuttle bus to different areas or shopping centre if you don’t drive. Cycling was fun and enjoyable, beautiful woods and nice path for cycling within the resort area.
Fantastic view from all rooms (not that case in the East and West resort). This one is a bit far from the East and West resort, where all the action are. You need to depend on the shuttle (its frequent) to go to the ski lift near the West and East resort. Felt this resort is more for couples. Had less no. of kids, while East Resort was full of kids running around. In terms ski lift accessibility East Resort is the best and hence the most crowded, and East is the closest from train station and hence larger proportion on non-resort guests there. West Resort ski lifts are much less crowded.
Prince Karuizawa type A room 3rd floor”
We visited Karuizawa during winter in early January 2019. Got type A room 3rd floor overlooking the lake in the Prince. The view is stunning like a postcard. We arrived by shinkansen from Tokyo, only an hour and 15 minutes. We dropped our luggage at the hotel concierge in the nearby Premium outlet just outside the train station, really convenient that we could continue to shop without lugging those luggage. The luggage were already in our room when we arrived at the hotel. We used the hotel shuttle bus at the bus stop in the premium outlet. No hussle, you just need to know the correct bus colour for your need and arrive at the bus stop before the departure time. They are as always in Japan, very punctual. The room in the Prince is really huge and comfortable. Although we can tell that its an older hotel but really well maintained and spotlessly cleaned. Complete amenities (thet even provide a really nice body lotion) and they provide bath rope, yukata and a really nice pyjamas. They offer many venue for breakfast including you can also enjoy buffet at the west and east hotel. Breakfast in the Prince is what i called a pretty breakfast, a la carte with a set meal (salad, yoghurt, eggs, croissant, coffee or tea) if you are used to a buffet, you may find the pretty breakfast not so fulfilling. It is overlooking the lake for you to enjoy while calmly eating your breakfast. If you opt for more option at breakfast, you can also enjoy buffet at the west or east by shuttle bus. The Prince has their own ski and snow park, which you can enjoy just using their shuttle bus. Overall, we trully enjoy our stay.
Nice place to stay in Karuizawa with some weakness”
Nice building, environment, room and services -including pick-up luggages in train station and renting free bicycles. However, the shuttle bus system is complicated, the routes change in the first 2 days we stay, and shut down for maintanence in 3rd day. You cannot trust the map and should keep asking. Also, It's not easy to communicate by English in front desk.
Spacious room. Overall facilities are good but they are pretty scattered and time was spent to travel back and forth.
It is nice & quiet resort, The room is big, clean and with excellent view. Overall, we are enjoy with our stay.
hotel is surrounded by green lands and forest, great atmosphere and quiet. I drive so the location is convenient. The onsen at Prince east was great as well, although I need to drive there from Prince hotel. My room overlooked a small lake, which makes a perfect picture/painting.
Hotel with nice environment and view”
Great design with all rooms facing the garden and lake. Recommend to choose this hotel if you drive. But extra 1000yen parking fee needs to pay for overnight parking which should be free for the hotel guest
a nice quiet resort. big room. the only challenge is getting the right shuttle bus back to hotel from the train station/shopping atrium - some shuttle didnt go to the resort although it is the same 'brown' route.
Room is spacious!”
Love the real fire place in the lobby! Hotel has free shuttle bus to and from the onsen, which is really nice! The restaurant for breakfast is great! It’s really enjoyable to have yummy breakfast and viewing the stunning snowy scenery at the same time!
All in one place”
Good for skiing, shopping and eating. Wonderful view from our room. Fire place was nice but ventilation was insufficient which kept the smoke within the lobby. Shinkansen station is nearby and connected by hotel shuttle bus.
The most I like the food the French restaurant but before that we reserved in the front desk but they tell us the restaurant is fully booked already then I try again to the staff to try if we can reserved in the french restaurant but still tell us it's fully booked already but I still try I go direct to French restaurant but it's ok it's not fully booked so I reserved direct to the restaurant,& also we arrived late afternoon about 4pm but still waiting to check in to our room it's waste of time for waiting we check in about 5pm it's late already.
Luxury hotel but......”
Took a non-breakfast plan. Totally impressed by the service and facilities, worthy of its name (and cost) for the enviornment and facilities. The hot spring hall is a must-visit. I enjoyed a 1-hr walk just to take a promenande in the whole hotel. I have no idea the scene cound be so beautiful in a hotel. However, unless you are a millionaire, or remember to buy all the food and drink before you check-in due to its isolated site and everything in this hotel is like $$$$$$$.
