A surreal experience from the rest of Yangon”
It was just what I needed as I was feeling unwell throughout the trip. A retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city streets. Never have I experienced such a hotel stay with the rest of the city as such. Highly recommended!
Fabulously Attentive service”
As you would expect the Strand gets it right. From arrival to departure everything was perfect. The Hotel is a remarkable place, and the restaurants, bar, rooms and newly built pool are all wonderful. The service and attention to detail were exceptional.
An elegant place full of history and a soul”
My stay at The Strand Hotel was perfect from A-Z. I loved my large elegant and beautifully appointed room and lovely bathroom as well as the nice view. The pool is large and very nice as well as the garden. That rather recent addition to the hotel is a big plus. I also liked the breakfast room very much with its lovely wall paper and elegant colonial feel. Breakfast was à la carte, plentiful and very tasty. Service and staff were perfect, kind and attentive.
Having travelled extensively over 5 continents, this is possibly the best hotel I have ever stayed .”
Manager Mark, butler Joe, beautiful large room and superb breakfast, everyone but everyone smiled all the time. Burma is the only country in the world where that happens, but the whole experience at the Stand was something else. I have already booked a week next October! Richard Turner, Stag Lodge London
Everything was amazing!
A warm welcome and nice place.”
Best service with the nice renovated interior. Breakfast was amazing, will serve a menu of Western and Burmese you can choose and combine what you want to eat. 15 mins walk to Botataung Pagoda, 10 mins walk to local market.
Excellent in all ways!”
We stayed 3 nights at the Strand and had superb experience. The room is recently renovated and very spacious. I think there are only 30-40 rooms in the hotel which makes it feel exclusive. The 24hr butlers are also very helpful. The food is beyond delicious, both local and Western dishes. We had breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the Strand Cafe and were not disappointed with any dish (must try: egg cardinal, mohinga, and earl gray milkshake). The location is convenient, close to nice cafes (try Sharky's, Rangoon Tea House, and Moonson), beautiful colonial buildings, and tourist attractions like Sule Pagoda and St. Mary Cathedral. Staff are friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again if we have a chance to go back to Yangon.
Simply the best place to stay in Yangon! ”
My husband and I visited Yangon recently to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We couldn't have picked a better place. From the moment we arrived, till our departure, we were treated with dedicated hospitality, friendliness and service. The food was exquisite, the accommodation luxurious and the history, architecture and design swept us away to the nostalgia of times' past.
I really enjoyed during stay at The Strand. Staffs was nice and profassional, room big and clean .”
The only thing that i would recommend is about food! I think 5 stars hotel should better have an international or several food available in the menu. I was order some dishes from the restaurant and I couldn't eat, it's not tasty at all.
Grand old hotel, beautifully restored ”
The staff are the stars here, willing to provide for your every need. Rooms are large and gorgeous. Bar and cafe serve good drinks and food. Breakfast is ok, no buffet but rather ordered from a menu. A bit slow and small portions. Location is short walk to main city area - 5 mins from Sule.
For aficionados of colonial hotels this is a little gem. My only complaint is that the butter was too hard to spread and that French breakfast tea had nudged proper English Breakfast Tea off the menu.
Amazing hotel experience”
We were on a quick stopover in Yangon to start our honeymoon in Myanmar and stayed two nights at the Strand Hotel. The hotel had just been renovated a month before and everything was perfect, from the staff that was lovely, special treats as honeymooners, advices on how to get around... Most importantly the hotel is one of these architectural gems that make you travel out of time. The renovation has been done with great taste, the rooms are beatufully appointed with high ceiling and nice furnitures. The resturants and bar are also beautiful and cosy, and the food is prepared well with excellent ingredients. I was impressed by the quality of the hotel in all aspects, it's probably the best experience I've had in Asia for a city hotel.
fantastic but ...”
Staff attitude and ambience were really nice But building itself is old and isnt well maintained Outside window was broken and wasnt closesd which are never supposed in the 5 star hotel such as hilten sheraton etc
Beautiful, historical and luxurious ”
Coffee and tea were served to your room. 24 hours bulter serving you. I returned after a short detour to Bagan and the staff still remembered me. A personalized note was signed by the general manager. The room was decorated nicely for a special occasion. The breakfast was good (the local dishes were better than western). The room was large and luxury. But the TV is too far so larger TV is needed. I really love the receptionist and its exchange rate was good. Can change money with safely. Location is good. Near many attractions and jetty.
The best in Yangon”
The best service that I ever encountered, all the staff still remembered me when I returned from Bagan. Strand has extremely luxury and huge room, really super super beautiful and comfy. The breakfast is ala carte order with a wide spread but the local items are better than western. The hotel location is really good too. Highly recommended.
Lives up to the hype”
One of the best hotels I've stayed in. Very gracious, understated service. All the amenities are thought through and add to your comfort. The only problem was the smoke from the bar that permeated the air throughout the hotel - wish they could do something about that. Otherwise, this is a wonderful, friendly place to stay.
Travel back in time.”
The Strand Hotel reflects an era gone but not forgotten. It is like travelling back in time to period when the most minute details mattered and time moved at a slower pace. The staff are top -notch friendly and efficient in a manner that is not obstructive. The location is excellent. Lots to see within walking distance and not far from other major sites. Art lovers will also find many treasures hanging on the wall of the gallery found in the Strand itself.
Felt like a King in a Royal Palace”
I wanted to stay at the Strand as it is famous for housing Rudyard Kipling in the past. I did not expect to find such an amazing place! The beautiful elegant high ceiling rooms are laden in wood and marble. I booked into the basic bedroom (no view) but it was huge: big ensuite area and a bathroom with separate doors for shower and toilet (also environmentally friendly touches). I like the thoughtful touches such as little presents and a comic-style book on do's/don'ts for tourists. The staff were great: friendly, helpful, attentive but not over the top. I missed out on the included breakfast (slept in) but had lunch twice (Myanmar and international) which was delicious. The only downside was the room price: expensive compared to other Asian boutique 5 Star's eg Centara Grand Beach Hotel Hua Hin Thailand (but about right for Yangon!). No gym or pool, to keep in line with history, but there were spa/pamper facilities. I can't wait to stay there again - this time I won't sleep in.
Classic hotel, not the best location”
With the increasing traffic in Yangon, it takes longer to get everywhere, and with the heat it gets tiring to walk too far...and this hotel is really more off the beaten path at this point. And the river is not such a high point....but it is a beautiful and classy hotel. Wish it had a pool.
British colonial classic, not the best location”
This hotel is right on the river, which in this case is a bot dirtier even that other parts of the city. Also, a little further away from many sights. So in the heat, walking is a little more exhausting.
