Not bad it’s ok.”
After we checked in, the first room was given to us was Really really bad laity we asked about better room or we change 🥵 hotel. Finally they have given us a room which wasn’t bad. Breakfast was good we stayed five night. As per room rate is bit pricey.
Very dirty and rundown”
The staff were generally good except for staff tending the driveway who were rude and looked for every opportunity to make a quick buck even if dishonest. The hotel entry is reasonably appointed however, the room was rundown and dirty e.g. mould all over the shower, stains on bed linen, paint poor, furniture worn. Location is good with easy access to transport and the park street area and maidan.
I stayed in this Hotel from 21st feb to 23rdof Feb 2013. I chose this hotel for its location and price. I found this to be the most value for money hotel. A Delux Room would cost u 5k & Suit 7.5k during season. The staff were very helpful & co-operative. Food was very good. The Breakfast was Good. This hotel would suit everyone, be it solo, couple or family. The best of the bestest part is its vincity to the Park Street and local or street market. I recommend this hotel & would certainly put in here in my next visit to Kolkata. Room Tip: Ask for Discount!! Ask the bellboy to recommend you the best room!!
Major renovation needed”
The hotel is very old and definitely needs major renovation. The room air condition are mostly window and makes most of the noise. Since rooms are allowed to smoke and has smell.
There are different wings .One wing having Lift but other one it is not there.During booking it is not mentioned the type of wing whether heritage one or new,Moreover the room floor was very dusty .
Front desk staff didn't even greet...!! Bed linens were awful. The worst part was the ac. I was havin headache. I literally had to clean the filter by myself which hasn't been cleaned up for a long time. Only good thing is the location.
Everything is very nearby ....Shopping... traditional food... Museum... race course, Gorer maath , esplanade, palace etc.. Rent a Car service is very expensive & currency exchange is risky (poor exchange rate).
I was put in a building without a lift which may be a problem to some people, but the hotel was in a good location, reasonably clean considering the redecorating going on. Changing the wifi everyday is a bit of a pain, staff were efficient, food and restaurants were very good
Good Value Hotel in Central Kolkata”
Clean room, friendly staff, good food, free internet in the lobby, central location, taxis available right outside the hotel, shops nearby, historical Kolkata visible all around. A bit on the expensive side but worth it, given the benefits just outlined. If I return to Kolkata, I would probably stay there again.
Outstanding! Great location, reasonable price.”
I would have no reservations in recommending the Lytton Hotel to any traveller looking for a clean, well located, budget hotel. The only warning I would make is regarding the Travel Desk - look elsewhere.
Staff provided invaluable assistance.”
Incredibly good stay. I asked for a quiet room in the back, and got it. Staff helped with unusual requests, such as arranging taxi to the Internationally certified hospital for a lab test. Also, helped with getting a cell phone, which is complicated in India, but the bellboy made it easy. Their English was way better than most hotel staff in this part of the world. I would not make Kolkata my port of entry if I had to do it over. Other cities give better impressions of India.
Clean, comfortable, value for money, centrally located right next to the Indian Museum and within walking distance to Hogg Market. The only minor set-back were the cleaners, keep knocking on my door whenever I came back, looking for thing to do in my room, even after they had done it when I am not around. They just want to check whether its clean, whether the toilet had tower, etc and I know they just hoping to get tips from me. Can be irritating when they knock too many times by different cleaners, all thinking of opportunity. There was once, 2 of them wanted to come in to check. Hotel should control their staff to stop "harrassing" guest. Hotel recep arranged a yellow taxi for me, for 100Rp more than I paid for in the airport, in a way to avoid being rip off if I were to get one on my own.
had an enjoyable stay right in the heart of the city. there was a safe in the room which was convenient. i found the reception staff very efficient. however did not like being disturbed in the evening by the room boys arriving to turn the bed down which was o.k however insisted in checking the towels and cleaning the room again even if i had been back only 5 minutes. room service was good and i enjoyed an excellent meal whilst watching a film on television. the crown bottle opener was located on the back of the bathroom door!
Great Service, Close to New Market”
We arrived very early in the morning but the hotel took us in but charged us an additional half a day which was acceptable. However, there were always a bunch of room service workers that were lurking around the doors waiting to accept tips even if they didn't do anything. Worst of all, there was one afternoon where we so happen were in our rooms, that they rang our bell, came in to give 2 bottles of water which we did not ask for and should have been complimentary and there were 3 of them standing there asking for tips! However, the rooms are clean and the location is great, services from the receptionist is not too bad as well.
Good choice for many reasons”
we had a good stay here. the room was fine, despite our view of air conditioners and lack of decor. it had everything we needed to be comfortable. the hot water supply was uneven. the hotel is a good base for seeing kolkata. since the church next door to the hotel feeds street people, the location attracts resident beggers, but they are not overly aggressive.
All good. Location good. ”
All good. Location good.
Value for Money”
Overall very good...................
This is a very old hotel not up to the mark what you may expect.”
I will not come here again.
Housekeeping was dsappointing”
I feel that the person responsible for housekeeping should be fired. The curtains are torn, the towels are dirty, bathroom unclean, floors throughout the hotel are probably never cleaned, windows unclean -- dirt all over. The only bright side is the restaurant food, not the decor which needs updating. Overall, the hotel is a substantial property but in need of updating and repair. Staff although helpful never smiles....should be taught to smile!
