While the location is lovely the hotel overlooks a main road which is unfortunate. The exterior is also very ugly and its surprises me that an architect chose such an ugly medium for the building to be built it, why was something more fitting for the surrounding beautiful environment not chosen?? Anyway its too late to change it so I guess its a good thing that the interior works so well and is nicely decorated and very clean. My room was lovely too and I found the staff polite and friendly. The only thing I would suggest would be maps or better instructions on how to get to reception as this was a bit complicated and the signage not helpful in this regard. Other than that great hotel, great location and OK it's ugly but once your inside you don't see it!
The indoor pool was closed. At the spa, indoor pool water to cold, not clean at all. Breakfast place. Staff is not trained and not friendly. At good morning would be nice. Reception, staff friendly but some of them not professional at all. What we did like ist the sport program and the staff belonging to it. This is definitely not a 5 Star Hotel... I would not go back
Beautiful and relaxing”
The harder you work the more rest you have earned. So having worked hard enough to win my first ever British bodybuilding title (see kevanwilson.com) I decided to have a week of total relaxation at this place and was very glad that I did, it is superb. From the start then; the place is 40 minutes drive from Faro airport and 25 minutes drive from the beach at Portimao, it is in the middle of nowhere and there is nothing to do there except relax, so you need a hire car if you are going to do anything more. The nearby water park is €21 each to get in and isn't anything special. Everything at the hotel is expensive but the "buffet breakfast included" option is highly recommended, as is booking a suite instead of a room, as I did, for the full luxury package. There is a restaurant of sorts opposite the hotel and it's ok but the best one by a mile is "1692" by the thermal springs which is just a few minutes drive or a difficult 15 minute walk up the mountain. The hotel is spread across a mountain too so the layout is complicated but simple enough if you take time to learn it. Monchique is very beautiful and relaxing and I will definitely be going back there.
