Ok value for money”
HCMC is unfortunately pretty expensive when it comes to accommodations… For three nights we paid almost 1 Mio Dong, but room was not overwhelming. It was everything you really need, a fridge and cleanliness was ok. Don’t expect too much and someone picky might complain about it. But for us it was ok. AC and hot water. After a few days the room smelled a bit, but that’s quite common due to the air conditioning and moisture from bathroom. No real window - to inner house section. Host was nice, but had not much contact with him. Party street a bit ahead - luckily you don’t hear anything. And as we are quite old :-) we experienced only once the atmosphere at the party road. You can skip that. Location otherwise good, close to bus stations (in town and to Futa office -> within Vietnam) and worth to see sightseeing spots. Of course a lot of restaurants and cafes around and a nice morning market (~ 10 min walk). But one thing to complain: I really do not understand, how these tiny Asian people can make such huge noises when going stairs up or down 😡. If you have such people in the guesthouse, you will hear them.

Home away from home”
My stay at Mai Guest House was nothing short of excellent. To get to the guesthouse from Pham Ngu Lao Street, you have to turn in to this alley at "241", and then you walk down the alley till you find "41". It wasn't as difficult as I thought to find as long as you know how the street address works. That bring said, it is very conveniently located to Bui Vien, which has a very vibrant night life with lots of pubs and eateries. No doubt the prices there is a little higher than other areas of Ho Chi Minh as they cater to tourists. To get to Ben Thanh Market, it is a good 10 to 15 minutes walk. Service-wise, I felt that the owner and his family were very genuine. He was able to communicate in perfect English and gave us a lot of good advices on the places to visit etc. The tours that we booked through him were also reliable and at reasonable pricing so we did not worry about being shortchanged. The highlight of it all was the Granny, she was so nice! The owner allowed us to use his bathroom after we checked out, and before we headed to the airport, gave us free water as he told us that the water sold at the airport was expensive. This was on top of us receiving free water from him when we first checked-in. The room was reasonably clean, but since we paid for this price, do not expect to have soap, shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste provided. I think that you have to request for a change in towel if you want a new one everyday. The toilet had good warm water but for some reason there was no warm water on the second day. We were too tired to ask them to check for us. Wifi was excellent was they had routers strategically placed at different floors. We stayed at room 302 (yes you got to climb quite a bit to get to the fourth floor but we did not find it an issue). All in all, this place was not perfect but this was outweighed but the genuineness and sincerity of the owner and his family. There is no doubt I will come back again the next time I visit Ho Chi Minh.

Great stay. We went to ho chi minh twice. We discovered mai guest house the first time and decided to go back the second time. Pros: - location - quiet street - free water bottle when you arrive - very nice owner, always smiling. He is also very helpful with indicating where stuff is in hcmc - we paid 20$ - large clean room and bathroom - great ac - good wifi Cons: - nothing

Comfortable stay and very helpful owner”
Everything was nice. We arrived and around 12pm and after 15 minutes the room was ready for us.We booked our tours and bus ticket from the owner of the hotel. The tour to Cu Chi Tunnel was great (no tour distraction, just the tunnel, with a great Tour Guide) and the bus ticket to Phnom Penh was cheaper than what I read in the internet. The grandma was very friendly too! If I had to complain then maybe they can improve the internet connection. My room was on the 4th floor, so internet connection was very slow (I have to go to the stairs to surf internet). But all in all, it was a nice and comfy stay. I definitely will stay in this hotel if I come to Ho Chi Minh City again.

Good experience”
Some of the local attraction is just within the walking distance from the guest house. The room is new, clean, and have a good wifi speed. You can easily get some food around the guest house such as vietnamese noodle etc. The host and his family is friendly and helpful. Overall thumb up for Mai Guest House.

Friendly staff, clean”
Airport transfer to the guesthouse was arranged for $15 (7 seat car), picked up on time. Warm welcome from the staff even we checked in late at 11pm Cheap bottles of water and beers and be purchased the the guesthouse Great location close to chill bars, walkable to Ben Than Market. Located in an alley, 50 m from the main street I recommend street food in the guesthouse alley that sells mollusk cooked in many different ways u can order. Had them with beer. Marvelous:))) No soap provided. Clean towel. Bought Cu Chi Tunnel tour for $6 from guesthouse. If u hav 2 days in HCMC i recommend u take this half day tour. Optional shooting activity after the tour with additional charge paid at the shooting range at Cu Chi Tunnel Historical place PS. Mai guest house is different from Mai Mai guest house

good location and good rooms”
we went there on a four days trip to hcmc with a friend. the room was big and clean, and the staff friendly. the location is really good, in pham ngu lao, close to good spots to go out, travel agencies, and motorbike rentals. the only drawback about the location is that it is very very very touristy, which means that the relationship with the locals will never be more than a relationship based on money (expect from the relationship with the owner of the guest house). also, the neighbors were working on something, so hammers all day long... ok if you don't plan to sleep all day. in the end, we didn't try other guest houses, but considering the prices in hcmc, i estimate that it was a little bit expensive... but a sure value if you're fine with paying a little bit.

Lovely friendly staff, always willing to help.”
Had a lovely stay at Mai guesthouse, with its central location in district one was perfect for us as we could walk to all the sights. Lovely staff, that we're always happy to help and advise on where to go. Also helped to organise onward travel to nha trang for the same price as at the office. Would defiantly recommend this guesthouse to other travellers.

Clean rooms, very helpful and nice host!!”
If you're on a budget trip, pick this guest house. It's 10min walk from ben thanh market, and has many places to eat all around it. Host was terribly helpful and friendly, and helped us to book and settle many things. Just try to get a room on a lower floor, as the first floor is actually on the third storey. Five stars, no doubt.

Better than I expected”
I was a bit hesitant actually in booking this guesthouse because some of the reviews about the location is dangerous and need to go to a little alley. Closing my fingers have this book and I am not totally expecting on this little guesthouse. Upon arrival in the guesthouse there is a man actually sleeping on the main room for security and they are fully book. All my hotels are booked thru Agoda and they never fail me. Mai guesthouse room took me surprise because the room is spacious and clean. Have lcd tv, aircon is good, window, desk and fridge. It's like a hotel and the alley is quite safe actually. This guesthouse is underrated.

Friendly Guest House”
The entrance of the street to the guest house is quite small and hard to spot. Many local are living there, you can literally see how is their daily live when walking pass their opening doors. Besides that, you can easily find cheaper food along the small street compared to those at the main streets.

Very comfortable and welcoming home stay. ”
My stay was great. The staff were great. They drew a map for us detailing where the sights were and where to eat and drink. The location is great because it's in the middle of an alley in District 1. It's close to everything, but the alley makes it a nice and quiet place.

we love Mai Guest House”
The "Mai Guy", as we called him, is very trustworthy. He has helped us and our two young boys on two trips now, always giving good advice and doing his best to be helpful. This is basic accommodation, but the price reflects that. We want a very clean, budget place, and this is the one.

4 night stay in april”
It's in a good but difficult at first to find location ( down narrow alley off Pham Ngu Lao Road - look for Kumho Samco bus company and a tour guide company, next to it is your alley to go down). There are plenty of good food places near by and a short walk to most of where we wanted to go to ( malls and War Remmant museum). Any further and you can take another short walk to use one of the 2 bus stations near by or use a motor bike taxi. It's a bit odd at first to walk through their living room especially when the owners family are watching TV, but they must have thousands of foreign guest in and out- so i suppose they must be used to it. Sometimes other guest are nosiy in the corridors and our room 101 was looking over the alley so during the weekend can be noisy from outside musi, but apart from that it was ok noise wise. There is hot running water and the air con and wifi works well. Only thing is the communal hot water flask for you to make coffee and tea is on the ground floor, which is ok for us on the first floor but not so convenient if you were higher up... Btw, if you book with Agoda the website will take out the full amount even before you check in, make sure the owner knows that so you don't pay twice!

Pleasant 1 night stay”
Very good located (in the backpackers area), loads of eateries around (the Guest House don't serve food), good prices for water, smiling faces, little English, very clean room, towels and beddings as well. Well done! :)

Good location, if you like backpacker district”
This is a friendly, family-run guesthouse right in the heart of backpacker district. The price is good for a large size room. We had a "twin" room, but one bed was a full size and the other was a queen size, still with room for our stuff and some extra space. It's basic, but clean. If you can handle the location and the noise that comes with it, it's a good find.

A quiet place in the middle of the city”
We loved the big window that overlooked the alley. At first we weren't sure when the taxi driver dropped us off at the front of an alley. But we realized after carrying our luggage through the alley to the hotel - that the location is ideal, because you are away from the noises of the street. We got a really good nights sleep and had such an easy time walking to all kinds of great sights - and the market is a short walk. We will be staying here again. Our kids, 10 & 14 really loved the windo overlooking the alley & the city. The whole wall is a window, with heavy drapes if you want privacy. Nice setup & great family that runs it.
