Wonderful, even in a monsoon”

Staff, beach, and breakfast

We came in late September at the tail end of monsoon season, but still had a great time, in part because of Mai House. We had arrived very early on a flight and wanted to check in early to sleep. Check-in is something like noon or a little bit before, but the hotel staff quickly cleaned up the rooms and let us check in early, around 9:15. We very much appreciated this! The breakfast menu was average, but came with a beautifully decorated plate of fruits and very attentive restaurant staff. On one occasion, we opted to skip the free breakfast and purchase lunch items instead (they happily accommodated us even though it was 8:00 am). That was one of the best meals we had on the island! Then on our last night in Phu Quoc, we were drenched coming back from the Night Market, and the hotel sent someone out with umbrellas to greet us and accompany us down the paved road in rain water a foot high. We felt really bad for the person who had to come fetch us, but this was just yet another example of the wonderful customer service. Considering how many beachside resorts are available on this island with easy access to the beach, customer service really made all the difference for us.

Perfect stay in Phu Quoc”

No negative point for me during my stay in Mai House Resort. Very affordable, excellent comfort for the price you pay. The bungalows are nice, large with a private terrace where you can relax in the nice garden or seaview. The staff are very friendly and very helpful. Whatever you need, they will help you as much as they can. All necessary amendities, either in the room or the whole resort are provided. Good shower, good internet connection...perfect spot direct on the beach. Nice swimming pool. Restaurant on the beach. The food was ok. Good location. If you need a motorbike, just ask the reception and they will arrange one for you. Unfortunately, I had to check out earlier than expected to return to Saigon but will be staying there again on my next trip to Phu Quoc

An absolute gem on the beautiful beaches of Phu Quoc! ”

Beautiful little bungalows- clean and great AC and fan. Private beach access is a must on this island. We considered staying in another bungalow that was not directly on the beach (to save money) but we are so glad we splurged for Mai House because their beach access was delightful and we did not have to pay for and search for a beach chair for the day. Loved going back and forth from the beach to the amazing Infinity Pool that overlooked the gulf. At night they have an open grill with fresh seafood on the beach, tables in the sand. Free cocktail from 4-5pm was a great way to get guests to the beach for the breathtaking sunsets! This is one of the only places in Vietnam where you can watch the sun set over the water. :) Breakfast is great- mostly fruit, yogurt, breads and then made to order egg dishes, crepes and noodle bowls. Mosquito nets and mosquito repellant oil in the rooms at night were a nice touch and we did not get bit in the room-- outside was more buggy, to be expected. We absolutely LOVED our stay here- was our favorite experience of our 2 weeks spent in Vietnam. We would definitely come back again if we found ourselves so lucky to be on Phu Quoc again. One note- they are in the process of literally constructing this resort so expect some construction noise and activity. Nothing so severe that it distracts from the beauty though. We stayed Nov 23-25, 2016.

Mai House is PARADISE on earth”

The gardens are gorgeous; the beach is excellent; our beach cabin/room was very beautiful.

We spent one week at Mai House in April 2014, and it was absolutely perfect. We flew to Phu Quoc from Ho Chi Minh City, and this was very straightforward. We were received at the hotel by courteous and friendly staff, and a complimentary drink at the restaurant. Our cabin/room was a thing of beauty. We had a large canopied bed, a great bathroom with a stone walk-in shower. Every night the staff would prepare the room by lighting citronella candles and putting a net round our bed. It all felt very luxurious. The restaurant was great. It sits on the beach and its open to the elements. We had huge breakfasts every morning, with platters of fresh fruits, and other stuff; and ate by the beach. Our days were filled with sitting on the hotel beach, which looked from our our walks up and down the beach as being the best around. It was very clean, but also unfussy. There's lots to do -- we booked a snorkelling trip from the hotel, and a tour of various sightseeing attractions on the island. The staff are great here. They're friendly and sweet. They speak generally very good English, and went out of their way to help (for example, they called the hotel we were travelling on to in another part of the country to arrange our airport pickup). The only slight issue on arrival was the realisation that there was no hot water in the shower. However, it was always refreshing as the weather is so hot, so the cool water (not really cold -- just room temperature) was not an issue at all. I would come back here in a flash -- and I'd stay longer.

One of the best hotels we have stayed in”

Great Location, Very friendly Staff, Great Beachfront Restaurant, Great Beach

after a bumpy speed boat ride, we arrived at the mai house resort and booked just for one night. our bungalow (garden view) was located in a very nice jungle garden. we booked the bungalow with a/c which really worth at this temperatures. the owner gerard was very friendly and helpful in all matters and all of the staff was very friendly too. the breakfast (beachfront) was a la carte and sometimes buffet style (try the pancakes). the beach was cleaned every morning and while we checked all the other resorts nearby, the mai house really was a gem on long beach. we ate in the beachfront restaurant and every dish we had was great. finally we extended our 1 night to 8!!! we were very sad to leave this "little paradise" on phu quoc.

Lovely staff; exotic location; AMAZING FOOD”

Fun bungalows, proper beach area, and outstanding restaurant

We chose the Sea View Bungalow on a whim and realized it was absolutely worth the difference! Wake up. Step out. Bath in blue, green, and sun. Enough said? The restaurant is amazing. I highly recommend the Vietnamese dishes over the Western options. Especially the 'Lot Leaf Beef Wraps' and the 'Caramelized Pork in Clay Pot'. Also, breakfast is basically all you can eat. French Crepes with chocolate/honey. Enough said? Mai House Resort's beach area has, without a doubt, one of the best settings. We did much trekking along Long Beach (most resorts along South Western Phu Quoc share this same beach), and noticed a lot of shoddy areas. Mai House Resort's properly done it here as well! Three nights here was not enough. We can't wait to be back already.

A beautiful and relaxing hotel with an amazing beach and pool to relax on ”

This resort is really a great place to stay if you want a relaxing holiday. The infinity pool overlooks their private beach, which is really clean and peaceful. The public beaches seem quite busy) The staff are friendly and looked after us really well . We used the spa and both enjoyed treatments on the beach. The restaurant was perfectly placed on the beachfront for Vietnamese and western food... we only ate Vietnamese and enjoyed all their options, breakfast was great, fresh omelettes and pancakes .. fresh fruit juice etc.. We were lucky to have a beautiful room not far from the pool area, but all the rooms are well located and detached, so you have lots of privacy and space. It all felt very relaxed. Phu Quoc is quite a busy place but Mai House is a great place to escape the mass tourism

Loved our stay!”

I researched for hours for accom on Phu Quoc and was so happy with this choice! Great for if you want a relaxed atmosphere while being walking distance to shops, travel agents, bars etc. We stayed for 5 nights at the end of October and loved it. While there are many large resorts being developed we found the garden setting and bungalows a quiet, relaxing world away from the hustle and bustle (and we were there in quiet season!). The bungalows are simple, yet comfortable and impeccably clean. The staff were so friendly - and in a very genuine way. Mr Phuong at the restaurant was wonderful. The location is awesome as mentioned - set on a beautiful part of Long Beach. The only thing I would recommend is a little more shade among the sun loungers (I’m incredibly pale and burn easy!) On checkout, our flight was leaving at 5pm and they even gave us late check out for free! I would highly recommend stay at Mai House.

Great choice for us...”

Atmosphere, comfort and location

Great stay that I would definitely recommend but with the following comments. In room #20, not much privacy between the bathroom and bedroom area as only a partial tall wall of about 12 feet separates them. So we ended up having to ask each other to leave the whole bungalow whenever needing some bathroom privacy. Also, we had white curtains so at night time, anyone passing by could see in the room very clearly. Room #20 is on a very secluded area so not much traffic anyways. But other rooms looked like they had darker curtains. We had a hot water problem in the shower upon arrival but it was resolved fairly quickly (even though the reception closes at 6pm). And last, the mixed drinks are not very good here while breakfast is fairly decent. Other than that, customer service is great here and you do feel very pampered with newly refreshed beach towel every day, plate of fruits upon arrival, bottles of water, etc. Mai House decor and atmosphere are well thought out and maintained and it was nice to have its own private beach. The eating area is very pleasant too. And the owner was very accommodating as well. Overall, we would highly recommend this place to any new travelers to Phu Quoc.

Comfort in paradise”

Spacious private beach location, comfortable rooms, excellent friendly service

we stayed at mai house resort just before christmas, 2012, and found ourselves in paradise. the resort is more spacious than most on phu quoc's "long beach," and has a more mature, western traveler audience than others. we received a room upgrade, and our cottage was very nice, clean, and comfortable. the staff at the hotel and restaurant were very friendly and accomodating, and food/drink prices are reasonable for the area. we would stay here again on any visit to vietnam, and i highly recommend it to others. if you're looking for paradise and a relaxing getaway, you'll find it at mai house resort.

We loved it!”

Room, staff, beach

This is a little gem in Phu Quoc island, not really touristic and perfect to relax and switch off from everything. The bungalow is amazing, great furniture indoor & outdoor (on the little patio), provided with A/C and fan. Bathroom is big and spacious and everything is very clean. We paid a little more (at the beginning we weren't sure about it but then we thought we made the right choice!) to have a bungalow minutes from the beach and we loved it. Wifi is working very well all not only in the bungalow, but all around the garden and the beach. The garden is also really well curated with palm trees and tropical plants all around. Breakfast is very good, fruit is delicious and you can have either crepes or omelettes cooked in front of you by the friendly staff. Restaurant is very good and quite cheap, even if all around is even cheaper. We also tried the massage spa on the beach: cheap and really recommended even if around massages on the beach are even cheaper. Staff is very good and friendly, keen to help you finding the best tour to enjoy the highland. Treat yourself..highly recommended! :D

Perfect for a quiet relaxing getaway”

1) The bunglows were brilliant and very clean. 2) The view of the sunset was wonderful. 3) Peaceful and relaxed

Our stay was brilliant although only for 2 nights. The bungalows were beautiful, quiet, clean and very comfortable. A wonderful place to relax with a book and a beer. The sunset was magical and a photographer's dream. You can also access other places by walking along the beach. The beach is clean and it is ok, although the layout is a little strange (a stream runs through the middle of it). Not a big problem though. The short lane to the hotel is a little tricky if you choose to ride a motorbike there (be careful the road in Phu Quoc in general are pretty hazardous and not for amateurs at all), but in a taxi this poses no problems. Great value for money at the price I paid. I read previous reviews and they made me nervous before booking. In my opinion (based on 4 years living and traveling in Vietnam), if you are a high maintenance traveler then maybe Vietnam is not the country for you. If you are patience, respectful and accepting that things will not always go right (especially if you are expecting them to be working for low wages in a second language), you will love it!

very nice, peaceful”

nice gardens, private beach, quiet

We enjoyed our time here at Mai House 6 nights) and would go back. We booked a 2 bedroom chalet with 2 bathrooms. The resort is right on the beach and I'm not sure if it's just the impression being the off season but the beach at Mai House seems to be the nicest of the whole strip of the long beach and the cleanest. There was quite a lot of rubbish along the beach when we went walking. Not sure if the locals do a better job at cleaning the rest of the beach up during peak season or if it is the same. Anyway, our beach was clean. Also on our walks, we noticed a lot of constructions going on, new hotels etc which would've been really annoying had we booked a hotel right near all this, but none was going on near mai house. When we arrived though, they were doing some work on the restaurant which wasn't a problem and they had informed us of this. My understanding was that the restaurant was going to be closed all together so we prepared for this but they managed to turn the spa into a temporary restaurant so that was nice, then towards the end of our trip, the restaurant was finished and we got to experience this too. The staff are very nice. My only complaint about the chalets was, there was no ventilation in the bathrooms. That's all. The rooms had fans and air con but we didn't need air con. The fans were enough along with the ocean breeze. It rained a lot while we were there as we were there in July but it was also a relaxing place in the rain. We did get some fine weather too. Of course like anywhere in tropics there are ants and mosquitoes but that is nature. The rooms have wifi however, when it rains a lot, the connection tends to trip out. Had a great time, would return.

Perfect resort ”

I recently stayed at Mai house with a group of 5 friends. The photos of this resort really do not do it justice - the resort is absolutely stunning. The pool area is so picturesque and well kept and the pool itself is fantastic. The private beach is the nicest part of long beach and is very clean and relaxing. The rooms are also very clean and quaint with particularly comfortable beds. I also loved having the option of air con or an overhead fan. Pros: Pool, Beach, accommodation, fresh pancake and egg station at breakfast, location. Cons: water pressure in the bathrooms, free afternoon cocktails (these weren't the best cocktails and are served at a half size), service time. We loved this resort and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

Beautiful Resort with a little problem ...”

Food, Ambience, Beachfront

We stayed atMai House for 4 nights. The whole resort is very beautiful and all the bungalows are spread in the very nice gatrden which opens to the beach front. Tje beach is clean and Mai House offers enough comfortable sun lounger with shadow at the beach. The Restaurant is great and very affordable. Staff at tje restaurant is exceptionally friendly and gave us some great trip information for explorting the island. Unfortunately tjhere was one big problem we had to deal with: the first bungalow we stayed in we had to share with a bunch of cockroaches. We know that cockroaches are very common to be seen around tropical countries and we would not have complained if there were 2 or 3 of them in the room. But within 3 nights we had to deal with 10 or more and they were everywhere ...Unfortunately the guy at the reception did not understand what the problem was, because he changed the mosquito net after we told him about the cockroaches. On the third day we showed him a picture of them and he finally understood what we were talking about and had us moved to another bungalow. Absolutely no problems there at all. So we think it may jusdt be a problem with one of the roomsd having a nest or something. After all we would stay here again but make sure they checked the room for cockroaches before.

amazing place”

After 20 days traveling all around Vietnam and Cambodia, we wanted a place to relax for 5 days. Mai House was fantastic! Things that we liked: - The staff is really friendly - the bungalow complex is beautiful, as you see it in the photos. Palm/coconut trees on the beach, bamboo and other plants all around - The bungalows are huge and carefully sealed, so no insects come inside. - The beach is clean, sandy, and great for swimming. The water is not clear (because of plankton? not sure), but it is clean. - We had clean beach towels every day and also a free cocktail between 16:00 and 17:00! - watching the sunset either on the beach or while swimming in the infinity pool was amazing! - The breakfast is great in quality and variety, eggs, pancakes, pho, fruits and many other options - The hotel restaurant has great food, a bit pricy though. The clay pot with caramelised tuna and the grilled snapper were fantastic. - we also had a very good massage at the spa. Except that it is a bit pricy for Vietnam, there are no negative points. We had such a great time, that we hardly left the resort area!

Great time relaxing, dining, enjoying time”

We spent 9 nights at Mai House Resort in mid November 2018. It was just the place we were hoping for. After traveling Vietnam from North to South it was our final stop of our 3-weeks vacation and it was just perfekt for relaxing. You'll not find "exciting" beach life there, at least not this time of low season, but if you want to read, swim and explore good food, it's perfect. The bungalows are very nice, clean and taken care of every day. Staff extremely friendly. If you don't want to eat in the very nice resort restaurant right at the beach front, there are plenty of others to choose from; some at the beach, much more in the small streets heading towards main road. Only thing: the bungalows leave some space between the walls and the ceiling. So sometimes a gecko might scream at you in the night and maybe walk the room. They don't eat humans as far as I know! ;-) We had a great relaxing time and recommend the place highly!

Wonderful”

I totally enjoyed staying here. Bungalos are fabulous and right next to the beach. I instantly forgot about everything else when I entered the Mai House resort.

Every thing was wonderful at the Mai House. Felt very homey to me and the rest of Phu Quoc just kind of disappears when you enter the property. I felt everything we needed was right there and there was little need to go anywhere. Service was excellent and exceeded my expectations. Highly recommend for a quiet beach bungalow in paradise kind of experience.
