Situated on the northwest coast of Phuket, it is possible to walk for long stretches of the 11km beach without seeing another soul. The white sand beach is devoid of development and protected as part of Sirinath National Park, which covers more than 10 miles of beach on the north end of the island. Inside the park, elevated wooden walkways allow visitors to easily explore the diverse eco-system of a coastal mangrove forest. Planes fly over the park when landing at Phuket’s International Airport.
A sharp drop makes swimming dangerous between May and November. Giant Ridley Turtles lay their eggs on the beach between November and February – usually late at night – and visitors are allowed to observe, but must not disturb the endangered creatures.
Splash Jungle Waterpark is located inside West Sands Resort on Mai Khao Beach. Besides its numerous waterslides, the park features rides, a wave pool and a 335-metre ‘lazy river’. A short walk away from Anantara Resort and JW Marriott Phuket, Turtle Village has more than 3,000sqm of retail space on two floors selling gifts, Thai souvenirs and clothing, including a Jim Thompson silk outlet.
