Majan Guest House
My stay at Majan Guesthouse”
The guesthouse is located along the main road connecting Firq with Nizwa. approx. 5km from Nizwa and 1.5km from Firq. Rooms are spacious, and on the building's rear side also quiet. The hotel offers a wide selection of local dishes for breakfast, what is a big plus.
Good value for money by Oman standards. Good Wi-Fi in room. Location 4 kms from fort etc and excellent for Mises and various other places if you have a car not so good if using public transport hence the 4 grading.
A good Omani hotel. Good value, clean. Not the flashiest of places but ok. ”
No elevator. But plenty of help if you ask. Breakfast adequate and 7 kilometers from the Fort. It's ok for the price I paid - I wanted somewhere clean and comfortable - not the Hilton - and that's what I got
Certainly not the nicest place in town but for what you're paying it's fine. Nothing special, nothing bad. The room seemed a bit small at first but there was a sort of walk-in closet area leading to the bathroom that made it work. Wifi worked great, breakfast was decent, and it was pretty quiet for the most part. Close enough to town, malls and supermarkets if you have a car. Staff were friendly and accommodating, even when I wanted breakfast early and to borrow some dishes.
Luxury hotel at a budget price (for Oman)”
I can't believe all the bad reviews this hotel gets. What do these people expect for 20 Rials? Buckingham Palace? This is a REALLY nice hotel. The first room I was shown had a window which opened onto the corridor, which I didn't like, so they gave me another and this room was perfect in every way. Big and spacious, spotlessly clean, comfortable bed, large HD satellite TV, nice bathroom, free wi-fi and a great free breakfast. Also the staff, especially the young Indian guy, are really friendly and speak excellent English. What more could you want? The only downside is the location, 5km from the centre of town. No problem if you have a car but if, like me, you rely on public transport your only option is taxis, but fortunately the share-taxis are cheap and plentiful. Otherwise, highly recommended.
Nice place to stay for a good price”
Nice place to stay considering what you pay for it. The total average score is definitely very low. I would give it higher than a 6.6. The staff are extremely friendly, the room was spacious and clean and the wifi efficient. Only the bathroom was a bit outdated and could use a bit of maintanance here and there but who cares... Breakfast is simple but satisfactory. All in all a good place to explore the town from. :-)
Good enough for the lack of options in Nizwa”
I wasn't expecting much of this accommodation as it was a bit of a last resort as the options in Nizwa and the surrounding area is quite limited, but outside of the friendly front desk personnel and good wifi, I wouldn't stay here more than one night. For all the rooms that they had in the guest house, I got a room that had one single window that looked back into the corridor of the hotel, so the room was literally dark all the time. There were ants all over the bathroom and even some on my bed. The closet had a bizarre odor, so I didn't use it. The breakfast was acceptable and simple: eggs (boiled and fried), chicken nuggets, juice, coffee and bread.
Nice and clean hotel with friendly staff”
I enjoyed my stay at the Majan Guest House. The guesthouse has tried its best in providing service. The room that I got, though it had no window view (it was the bathroom that faced the street outside), but its size compensated for that. There were complementary beverages and daily amenities in the room, which I don't normally expect from "guesthouses". The location is not so practical for solo travelers, who have no private transport. To go downtown (souq and fort), you need to hire a taxi (engaged 1.5000 - 2 OR) or wait for a microbus (200 baisal).
what a hotel!!”
Thanks a lot for all staff and people around for helping me. Omanis really kind people. Staff really kind people. everything was good enough!. only little mess with a toilet and a road still under construction but not a big deal. will be better in future. overall thumbs up! I will come again.
Great option in Nizwa”
This is a very nice guesthouse on the main road to Nizwa. You will need transport to get to the center of town. The guesthouse is not the newest anymore, but rooms are renovated, very cleen and we felt very comfortable. It is a perfect stay for travellers, if your expectations are not to high and you love to stay at guesthouses with a local touch. The rooms are a bit pricey compared to other hotels in Oman. The breakfast consists of toast, butter & jam, egg, juices, fruit, coffee & tea and much more. We would return to this guesthouse without any hesitation on our next trip to Nizwa.
Good location. Easy access to Fort.
Good place for short stopovers”
Clean room, good service and location. We stayed 1 night and it's a good place for stop overs for good value for money.
Helpful staff Convenient location
This hotel was nothing special. It's recommended in the Lonely Planet, but it is just an average hotel. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was decent. Although breakfast was from 7-10, the food is cold by 8:30 and doesn't really get refilled by the staff. The room was comfortable, clean, and big. We would consider staying again, but wouldn't go out of our way to book it.
Very Nice Rooms - Poor Breakfast”
The rooms are very spacious at Majan Guesthouse. Nice beds and bathroom. Unfortunately there are many works going on the road infront of the guesthouse. So it wasn't easy to get to the Guesthouse...and they have a poor breakfast. However as there is limited possibility of accompdation in Nizwa it's a good choice.
It's a budget hotel”
I would not reccomend to stay at Majan Guest House. The hotel is clean but very old. The bed was uncomfortable, so hard it seemed to sleep on the floor. Very noisy A/C. It's ok for the low price, backpackers and very youngers.
Decent hotel in a place where there aren't many”
I wasn't driving so getting here was a bit tough with all the taxi drivers who were trying to fleece travellers. And there was also some upgrading works going on outside the main road so it was a little dusty. There is only one place to eat and that's Hungry Bunny which is beside the hotel. Other eateries are about 1 to 2 km either way. This won't matter if you have your own transport.
We felt very welcome and safe and comfortable at the Majan Guest House. We arrived after a long drive from Muscat and was not sure what to expect of Nizwa. The Majan Guest house was located on the way into town and was easily seen from the bus. It was easy to get taxis from outside the Guest House into Nizwa. The food we ordered and ate at the restaurant was freshly prepared. The staff was very helpful. As there are no hotels in Nizwa, Majan Guest house is a very good place to stay.
Hardest beds on earth ”
There is not many accommodation options in Nizwa and therefore the prices are very high compared to the standard of room. Majan Guest House is a budget hotel, but at 110 USD a night it is definately a very expensive budget option. The room is clean and the water was hot, but the beds were horribly hard, so sleep was impossible. Breakfast was adequate.
Good place to stay near Nizwa”
A good value for money and location for visiting Nizwa. The room was fine, if a little dated but everything worked and was clean. Breakfast included but basic. The location is good, only a few minutes south of Nizwa center.
