Dated bedrooms”

Makaranga Garden Lodge has beautiful gardens, but the bedrooms are very dated with cheap and unattractive furnishings. This is a pity because the setting is lovely and the Lodge has such potential. The place just needs a serious make-over.

Great value for your money”

excellent and professional staff and service, comfortable rooms, amazing garden, helpful staff

makaranga is most definitely on our list of places to go back to. we loved our brief stay at your hotel, everything exceeded our expectations and we would definately recommend this hotel to others. we sent our kids out for a quick peek about while we ordered breakfast, we had to call them back after not returning for more than 15 minutes. they had plenty to chat about and could not wait to take us on their enchanted garden paths after breakfast.

Waking to birdsong - what a treat”

Price (via Agoda!), central locality and the GARDENS

The past weekend our family stayed at Makaranga Lodge and enjoyed every minute! Waking up to birdsong is quite a treat, as is going for walks in the expansive gardens. The restaurant offers a good variety on the menu, but the breakfast portions are way too large!! I felt quite foolish sending most of the serving back, not being able to finish it. Also, before booking directly with the Lodge, check websites for specials - definitely worth your while going through this little extra effort as big savings are possible! To the owners: a coat of paint, repairing damp and clean carpets will add a lot of value, making this an even more special destination! Room Tip: Ask for the new wing - more modern and larger rooms. Excellent bathrooms!!

Spectacular gardens”

As we were there visiting family, we spent very little time at the hotel, but we stayed in a lovely room, encountered very helpful and friendly staff and did find an hour to wander through the spectacular gardens. We would love to go back one day to relax and enjoy the garden and pool.

Loud wedding music disrupted our guests stay”

setting, gardens, locatioin

Makaranga is such a beautiful setting which made us eager to book our guest speaker from the US to stay there. Sadly, loud music from a wedding at the hotel venue kept them awake til the early hours of the morning. The hotel management did not warn us of this in advance. Bad experience.

Makaranga review”

The Hotel itself and all the ammenities superb

The hotel itself is superb, the location, room, bar, pool area, gardens excellent, had a very comfortable stay. The service from the staff was very very poor - everything they did moved at a snails pace, room service, ironing, service at the restaurant the waiting times were extremely long. They really need to improve on that.

Average experience with adequate facilities”

In nature, beautiful surroundings

There was a mix up on our arrival resulting in us having to pay the normal rate for our room on top of the amount we paid via agoda. The lodge did refund us this amount a week later but it was an inconvenience nonetheless. We were given the incorrect room and key and arrived in a room that was already occupied, which could have been very awkward. We were finally taken to our room which appeared to be for disabled people. The bath and shower were rather small and the disabled facilities made them even smaller for normal use. The room itself was large and spacious and had we not been inconvenienced along the way I'm sure the experience would have been much more pleasant. Will we return? It's very unlikely but anything is possible. The woman that contacted us the following week was very polite and apologetic which softened the blow a bit. We enjoyed a lovely meal at the hotel restaurant.

The gardens are beautifully kept and huge!

In 3 days i was never able to order room service, no one picked up at restaurant, i had to walk down to restaurant on 5 occasions to order food. Bar closed at 22:00 on a friday night, even though they claim to be open till 23:00, there were still people in the bar, but barman was tired and overworked... Seemed under staffed, and badly managed. Beautiful gardens and huge potential, but needs new management!!!!

we didn't go because they were not prepared to accommodate our request for outside smoking or for permission to take photos without paying an additional huge fee. we had arranged to get married there, but decided to forfeit our payment and stay at an establishment that would provide an environment which was positive and friendly as we planned to lay the foundation for our future there.

Staff definitely not professional. On arrival we had to carry all our lugguage in by ourselves . When we got to the room with all the bags a staff member informed us they've send us to the wrong room. So there we go with all the bags again. The key of one of the rooms we've booked wasnt working and for 4 days the staff couldn't fix it so we were given the master key that the cleaning staff use. So from a security point of view That's a bit dodgy. Noise levels at the hotel is extremely high. Staff members arriving in the mornings make such a noise walking past the rooms and talking as loud as they can. Our room was right next to the restaurant which made it very noisy. If your looking for peace and quiet this is not the place. The food at the restaurant was good and the rooms were clean.
