Exceptional”
Makkachiva is a wonderfully stylish, clean, and comfortable hotel, located right in the heart of the old city of Chiang Mai and only a stone’s throw away from the Sunday Walking Market and temples. The breakfast (served until noon!) was quite good and cooked to order with a number of choices. The staff there were lovely too. A quirk is that you have to remove your shoes on the ground floor and not wear shoes in the room, which keeps it clean too! Highly recommended!!
Brooklyn in Chiang Mai”
Makkachiva is exceptionally amazing!! Think yoga, meditation and zen fused into a hotel property with a minimalist chic twist. Outstanding staff that are professional and gracious. It is conveniently located on a main road without the noise factor and a short walking distance to the Old City night market. The ambiance and design are impeccable from the time you remove your shoes at the threshold near the courtyard water display. I especially loved the hanging plants and the open skylight. A scrumptious breakfast was included so the price point cannot be beat.
Very Clean & Peaceful Hotel”
Makkachiva hotel is highly recommended to stay in with a very clean, peaceful and full of nice pictures around like art gallery centre. The breakfast is good and serve with personal touch, staff are friendly and polite. In future, if my husband and I will travel in Chiang Mai, surely will be back to this hotel where surrounded with the nice restaurants nearby.
AMAZING hotel staffs”
Worry no more if you stay in this hotel. The staff really is care with your needs. Even starting from I went down from my taxi, the staff has already waiting near my taxi's door. If I have the chance to visit Chiang Mai again, absolutely will stay in Makkachiva again / maybe trying Makka Hotel (they have the same owner). Thank you!
Great Hotel in Chiang Mai”
Really great hotel with phenomenal ambience. The lobby area is so peaceful and serene, I could spend my days just sitting there in front of the pond. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful, always said hi and smiled every time I walked by. Breakfast was included and delicious. It was centrally located in the Old City area of Chiang Mai, with a beautiful temple right across the street. Pretty much everything I wanted to see in the city was a short walk away, including the night market and other attractions. All the tours knew where it was, so easy to get picked up from for whatever your you book.
Best experience ever.”
I booked the room for my parents, and they spoke highly of this lovely, artsy hotel. The breakfast was excellent, you can choose from 13 different sets. The hotel itself is just like an art gallery, every detail is resulted from deliberate design/choice. The room is of fair size, relatively small compared to the other hotel room of the similar price. But the interior is just so stylish. If you are into art, good service and a super convenient location, Makkachiva is definitely your type.
Charming Boutique Hotel in the Heart of the Old City Part of Changmai”
We stayed at the Makkachiva for 8 nights and our stay was wonderful. The hotel is ideally located in the old city part of Changmai. The hotel is charming and quiet. The staff is wonderful, in particular Gee at the front desk who is full of energy and always helpful.
Beautiful, quiet, clean”
This hotel was a perfect stay for us. First of all it located in Old City and you can walk to everything from the hotel. I love that the hotel is on a quiet street. There is a temple across the street. We also loved that you have to take your shoes off prior to entering the hotel and are given sandals to wear on the property! You are also given a storage area (see photos) to place your shoes in so you don't have to carry them up and down from your room. We stayed in room 301 which faced the back of the hotel. Loved our room! We were worried that our room was right next to the elevator and even looked at another room because we were worried about the noise from the elevator. The only other room they had was one with 2 queen beds and we wanted a king so we took the room by the elevator and had absolutely no issues with it at all. Once in the room you never hear the elevator-it is super quiet and quick to get up and down. My wife is extremely noise sensitive and this hotel and the elevator were super quiet! Breakfast was amazing! We loved breakfast every morning. They serve you a lot of food, included in your main entree they also serve fruit and bread, everything was delicious! The staff was helpful during our stay with directions and anything else we needed. The beds were hard which we prefer so we had good night sleeps! They didn't offer face towels which we are use to in the US so we asked for extra hand towels to wash our face. They also didn't offer lotion so we had to buy some to use while we were there. They do provide shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothbrush and toothpaste as well as shower caps and cutips. It is good to know that only the rooms are air conditioned. The hotel lobby and area where you eat breakfast isn't air conditioned. We were there when it was over 100 everyday and didn't find this to be a problem. But, being use to air conditioning this was a surprise to us when we arrived-we adjusted fine-I would still stay here again.
Wonderful place to stay in Chiang Mai”
This was our first adventure to Thailand. We went with our 9 and 11 years old who are both seasoned travelers. We booked two rooms which were next to each other. This is a boutique hotel with an amazing art collection and attention to details to the facility. Yes, the rooms do not have drawers, but they do have water, soft drinks, and snacks. We recommend getting your room with breakfast. You have a choice of traditional Thai breakfasts or more Western versions. Our stay here helped make our stay in Chiang Mai so memorable. Thank you!
Exceptional”
This was a really nice, modern hotel in the old town, walking distance from most of the major sights in Chiang Mai. The staff were really friendly, and the breakfasts were great (and big!). We loved the décor in the hotel, the paintings in the halls, and the reading room with interesting books about Buddhism and meditation - but a warning, thee breakfast room and the reading room are not fully enclosed, so there are quite a few mozzies!
Wonderful Boutique Hotel in the Heartbof Old City!”
We truly loved our stay at Makkachiva. The breakfast was available until 12:00pm , so I could stay in bed if I wanted to and have a lazy morning. Great location , a couple of blocks down is a temple that you must visit before sunset plus there are a couple of restaurants down the street to grab dinner at. Let's not mention the decor of the hotel, truly Zen!!!!! No spa onsite but there is next door. Excellent stay at every level, will definitely stay there again.
Best Hotel in Thailand ”
We loved this hotel. It is a quiet oasis nestled in the heart of Chiang Mai. Although the staff's English language abilities are limited, they are extremely friendly and kind. The hotel is definitely a one-of-a-kind, with a handful of rooms, modern Thai architecture, and an amazing breakfast (with a choice of Thai and Western options). If you are looking for a hotel that offers room service, a breakfast buffet, and a pool (your standard chain hotel), then this place is NOT the place for you. However, if you're looking for a unique true Thai experience, then I highly recommend.
Oasis in the city ”
We loved our stay at Makkachiva! The staff were incredible, so warm and helpful. Breakfast was good with lots of options (both western and local) and our room was a wonderful and comfortable escape from the heat and activity of the city. Would definitely stay again!
Beautiful Hotel in the middle of old Chiang Mai”
We stayed for three days at the Makkachiva hotel. The hotel was built in a colonial style and as a gallery for beautitul paintings from famous and local artists. The personnel treated us fantastically and the breakfast was very good. For anyone who prefers a beautiful hotel with some culture and a central location but doesn't need a swimming pool, we highly recommend this place!
OLD CITY”
If you want to stay in the old city of Chiang Mai, then this is the place. It is sooooo clean, the staff are kind and helpful with all your needs. Also, it is walking distance to the night bizzare market. Love, Love, Love this place. I would stay here again.
excellent”
we were traveling in a group of 12 and all of us enjoyed our stay in Makkachiva. Location is so ideal as the sunday market is just outside and also few tourist attractions spots. staff is extremely helpful n service is excellent. Breakfast is top class and delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole menu for 3 mornings! A very strongly recommended hotel for family holiday.
Cute, friendly boutique hotel”
Great location in old city of Chiang Mai; very close to Wat Chedi Luang and Wat Phra Singh. Pretty decor. Lost power for a few hours during a storm but that seems fairly common for Chiang Mai
Great location, staff and cleanliness”
Perfect location in the old city to make exploring on foot extremely easy, very friendly staff, excellent breakfast, smooth check in & out, and a very well looked-after hotel. Not the cheapest but worth it. No facilities but that doesn’t matter in Chiang Mai
Boutique Hotel With Style”
Fantastic little boutique hotel centrally located in the old city in Chiang Mai. The artwork adorning the building is delightful and the breakfast is not to be missed. Finally the staff were a delight to talk to. Thoroughly recommended.
Perfect hotel ”
To start with the hotel is located in a perfect location in the Old City. Only a short walk to anywhere you want to go. The hotel itself is impressive because it’s spotless in terms of cleanliness, has an old charm based on the design but also modern touch, and the lobby is open to the outside with no doors and a fountain in the middle foyer. It’s kept so clean probably because you are supposed to take your shoes off when going upstairs to the rooms. There’s art along all walls with rooms circling the inner open foyer. There are only three floors so it’s easy to take the stairs or an elevator if you must. The rooms were bigger than most modern hotels and the bathrooms had great water pressure and hot temperatures. The air conditioning worked too well and my room cooled down easily. Free breakfast is included which is ordered from a menu with American or asian style options. Since I should say something constructive, my king size bed only had two pillows and could have used more.
