Great view of El Nido from Hilltop room!”
Makulay Lodge is a great place to stay in when you're in El Nido. A few minutes walk away from the busy side of the town, you can enjoy the quiet side of this place. They have a peaceful lounge (with GREAAAAAAT playlist which is perfect for a lazy afternoon). We stayed in the Hilltop Room which is 200+ steps up. No joke to climb. But if you're physically (and mentally) prepared for it, you can enjoy the great view of El Nido, which is perfect to catch the sunrise or sunset.

Awesome Stay!”
Stayed here for 3 nights at a very reasonable price. Firstly, the location is perfect; it's by it self sort-of in the middle of El Nido's beach area. Away from the noisy, more crowded area of El Nido which is a big plus. It literally has its own beach, in front of the hotel. I picked the Down by the beach villa, which was a delight to have, and equipped with AC. Staff cooked me the best omelet and pancakes, I've ever had. They were also able to book island tours for me. Staff isn't around 24/7 but it wasn't an issue for me. Owner was also nice and very friendly. Would definitely come back here again!

Quite the opposite”
Yes, Makulay Lodge tries its best to satisfy its guests and clients in its most unique way. See, the property is quite far away from the busy El Nido port, providing a quiet and soulful stay in the area. It is a stand alone on the opposite end of the strip, which gives their clients a unique experience away from the loud and the crowded. The staff is very friendly, approachable and helpful. Makulay Lodge also has the best view in the strip. That being alone in its area provides a great view of the towering mountain islands, and the sea. Our room has a veranda, which makes the experience quite extraordinary. We'd dine and spend time watching the boats pass by the sunset, melancholic yet worth the while. Apart from a 10-minute walk from the main road, WiFi is poor to non-existent. Globe signal is very intermittent, too. Oh! And the menu's quite pricey.

We loved this location and the staff!”
This place is just outside the beaten path, around a bend in the trail leading to the main beach about a 10 minute walk, only 5 minutes to the nearest bar and sari store. El Nido town is 15 minutes walk so this is a great location just perfectly tucked away in paradise, with a stunning view of sunsets at Cadlao Island from your balcony if you choose the room we had. This place is very special, like your living in a tree house, with reggae music softly playing in speakers around the property. But it's the staff who really make it perfect. We found them very attentive and kind for every detail. They arranged airport pick up and answered our every question, assisting my wife to get to a pharmacy when I needed it, which was much appreciated. Book the lower rooms unless you like hiking up the stairs, however the views from those higher rooms might be worth the trek. IMHO this charming spot is an amazing value for money well spent for an experience you'll always treasure!

Constant electro music takes away from setting”
I stayed in Makulay Lodge in 2011, before the change in ownership and recent renovations. It has a lovely set-up, and nice location away from overcrowded El Nido town & with a wonderful view right on the shore. Cons: - The new owners seem to be trying to turn this into an "electro chill" type of spot, playing loud electro music, with tacky posters along the beach advertising their various events. If I wanted this scene, I'd stay in El Nido town. This is not really the vibe I look for in a gorgeous coastal setting - it takes away from the natural beauty and peace of the location. I much preferred the simple, laid-back vibe that the place used to have. Without the posters and music, I would've enjoyed this place much more. - The rooms are overpriced. The bathroom felt and smelled dingy, the outer screen door lock was broken, and it just didn't feel up to par to the price I paid (which was discounted to begin with, and which I believe is significantly higher than what I paid for the same room before). Perhaps if they are renovated, they would better fit the price. Pros: - Again, great location a quick walk from the main part of town, with a fantastic view - The restaurant and patio are beautifully designed, and (besides the music playing loudly) were really nice to sit and eat/relax/get some work done on my computer - really nice landscaping and takes full advantage of the view - Friendly staff I think the changes to this place represent the continuing overdevelopment of El Nido - taking away from the original character and culture of the area.

Comfortable stay despite accessibility difficulty”
Our overall stay at Makulay was good. I loved that we were away from town and the place was quiet, thus giving us time to relax and sleep well during the night. The staff was friendly as well, although we noticed that their clothes were hung all over the lodge (I'm guessing their rooms were too small to dry them). It would be even better if we stayed here during summer, because we had difficulty accessing it due to the rains. The walkway was a bit muddy, and we had difficulty finding the lodge at first because we arrived at almost midnight, and there was just one lamp post that was not enough for us to see where we were going. Thankfully though, the security guard offered to assist us going back to town as we checked out. Despite the accessibility issues, we loved our stay here!

Very peaceful place in El Nido”
The staff was very accommodating and welcoming to all our needs. The breakfast was very good. The lodge is located a short walk past the busy town centre and is therefore a great breakaway from all the noise. You also get to see another part of el nido most people's do not see. We would definitely stay here again.

Best View in El Nido from Loft Room!”
If you stay here just make sure you are one with nature a little bit. Staying in the Loft Room had some of the greatest views of El Nido. A little trek up the stairs but well worth it. Definitely would recommend the Loft Room!

Delightful stay at Makulay”
I and my boyfriend absolutely enjoyed our stay at Makulay Lodge. We can recommend it to other travelers because the place itself is so relaxing, a restaurant with a good cozy ambiance and with Chef Jeremy around you'll never get bored.

The Hilltop Cottage has the best views of the bay!”
It was excellent, the Hilltop Cottage was spacious and comfortable, and the views of the Bacuit Bay were the exquisite! Because the lodge is at the end of the beach, it is much quieter and there was less noise and traffic. I loved the food too!!

Nice beach front”
Really nice place to stay. Beautiful view from the up hill rooms, and nice beachfront bar for breakfast and sunset drinks. One of the most charming places we saw in El Nido

Good”
Our stay wasn’t our favourite on our trip. We had a million dollar view from our room which was amazing! It is up a big hill (worth the excersise up) but wouldn’t recommend if not fit and able. It wasn’t the no wifi, or the power and water continuously going out that bothered us- it was the ants and stained towels and sheets that put us off. However some of the other properties we walked past in El Nido looked worse off, El Nido is definatley a place that you have to have an open mind for and not expect any luxuries in general so overall we were happy enough with the stay, and wouldn’t stay again in low season but high season we properly would when the bar and restaurant is open and other guests are actually around- as the public area at the bottom of the hill seems like it would have cool vibes.

Cute hotel”
This is a basic hotel, but still a very comfortable hotel. It’s homely and spacious rooms. This is the kind of place to unwind, detox and find inner peace while surround by jungle. Warning those with a weak heart may find the steps to the top villa stressful and challenging. The managers are a adorable couple that will do everything to ensure that your stay is pleasant - make sure you try their breakfast 10/10. I look forward to returning again one day

Great hotel, quiet location, cold shower, bad tour”
Quiet location, great view, great food. The only down side was when we applied for Tour A. The woman in charge of tours was very unreliable. They forgot to charge us and a woman showed up at our next hotel and asked for payment, which we gave. Then we also purchased Tour C from her, but received no receipt or environmental pass. When it was time to take tour the next day, she was no where to be found and no one knew her at the previous tour company. Strange, eventually someone was able to track her down. Then we planned to do more tours and she disappeared again and apparently lost our environmental pass. Luckily we chose another tour company and they believed us when we said we purchased the pass. Also the shower only worked occasionally and it was always cold.

nice place, great staff”
Great place close to main attraction, has small private beach with sun beds, nice restaurant with inflated prices, room is comfortable with mosquito net, bathroom in upper room (100 steps) only cold watter and low pressure. If the price was a bit lower, it would be a great place to stay.

Comfortable and airy large room”
My husband and I stayed in room 4D, and the room was very airy, large, and had a wonderful balcony where we could see the ocean. They did a great job putting mosquito netting everywhere. Would stay here again.

Staff Really Helped Us Out”
Stayed in the Loft House in January 2019. Absolutely stunning view and spacious comfy apartment. Staff carried our bags up the steps and were extremely helpful when we needed assistance following a tour company not picking us up for a pre booked tour. Would be great if the restaurant was open for breakfast of some kind, but easy stroll into town so didn't mind. Would definitely stay again if we came back!

Calm and worth it”
After a little time looking for it( its on the beach of calaan, 3 min from the village), we found that the Familiy house was really nice and quiet. The people managing the place are very efficient and welcoming ! Very good experience !
