Beautiful little paradise ”
This was my second trip to Makunudu. That probably speaks for itself :) In my review I will summarize major advantages and a few things I’d recommend the resort to look into. But before I start, I’d like to thank from my heart the entire crew of the island and especially the restaurant Team. I was extremely happy to see there again Anwar, who has been our waiter last time and, in my humble opinion, remains to be the best and the most attentive professional :) Advantages: close to the airport; welcoming staff, ready to help You with Your requests; extremely green; very private (You won’t meet anyone unless You want!); quite; beautiful beaches with alive reef (with turtles and sharks); great dinners (buffet and a la cart). What could be a bit better: pick up time from the airport (I was waiting for approximately 1,5 hours); breakfast (still they are decent and You have all You may need). Some bungalows may benefit out of renovation, but they have their charm. In some cases- would be nice to see people working there ready to go an extra mile for the guests (for example, we wanted to change our table in the restaurant in the beginning with another waiter, and that seemed to be a problem). I would also suggest to diversify sand bar menu (for example, to add masala tea :) These little things did not spoil our vacation and I would 100%+ recommend Makunudu as a great value for money. I plan to be back next year myself :)

Such a wonderful place to relax”
We really enjoyed our stay on this tiny island where there is no need for fancy clothes or shoes. From the beginning, we were surrounded by the attention of the staff and enjoyed the surprises associated with my birthday, which I celebrated on the day of arrival. Special thanks to manager Kuntal:). We spent 9 nights there and chose the FB type of catering. The price of the drinks was extra, but their selection and prices were quite reasonable. We really liked the type of catering - a la cart. This is probably related to the Covid-19 situation, but it was a great pleasure to have lunch and dinner with the personal waiter Ahamed. We felt especially when we were served by a real professional and lovely person - many thanks to him and best wishes:). The food at the restaurant, run by a chef from Sri Lanka, was varied and delicious, beautifully presented. Breakfast was buffet style, but there were plenty of food choices and very tasty fruit. We liked the fact that there were very few people on the island, the bungalows were comfortable and cleaned twice a day. The private beach patio has sun loungers and chairs and direct ocean views. The island is small, it has a total of 37 bungalows, a lot of greenery and various animals - lizards, crabs, bats, birds. We especially liked that there was enough depth nearby for swimming, a white sand beach and some amazing home reefs. While diving we saw a lot of beautiful fish, turtles and even beach sharks. The holidays passed like a moment, surrounded by beautiful nature. Thanks to everyone who works hard there, providing great conditions for guests to relax. We will definitely recommend Makunudu Island to our friends and look forward to coming back on our own.

Small and very cozy island with a very friendly staff, still decent house reef (especially if you are a good swimmer) and a good dive center. Recommend it.

Refreshing private resort island”
Our bungalow was right on the beach with an incredible house coral reef less than 50 m from the shore. The resident manager (S. Blackett) greeted us upon our arrival to the island; a warm and welcoming greeting. We were well taken care of at every step along the way. Check in and check out was a breeze. We did the half board which included an amazing wide variety buffet breakfast served daily and a four star five course dinner served every night. Makunudu is one hour ahead of the main island time of Male so plan accordingly. We did the complimentary Snorkel Discovery. The snorkel discovery trip was about a 15 minute boat ride from the island and the snorkelling lasted well over one hour. It was so worth it. The complimentary dive lesson from the Dive Center was provided in the main lagoon area(Claudia from Belgium, what a kind woman, she was amazing). So glad I tried it. Also, we did the complimentary Night Fishing Excursion and yes, my wife landed two red snappers out of the four fish caught that night. Another trip well worth taking is the Manta Ray Excursion, only 20USD per person. The boat ride was about 45 minutes from the island. We were able to see and swim with three giant manta rays for over an hour; it was a first in my life and not soon to be forgotten. I estimated the wing span of the mantas to be approximately 3 to 3.5 m. The massage therapy specialists were so gentle, amazing and kind. Quite frankly, I have had a lot of massages over the years and these two ladies were by far the best massage specialists I have experienced. We truly enjoyed their hospitality and professionalism. One last thing. The resort is really practicing a sustainable approach to all that they do. They truly get it and have established protocol to help keep the island operations running as sustainable as possible. And last but not least, the access to nature is unparalleled at Makunudu Island. We will be back to Makunudu and hope to make it a yearly stop.

Well thought out, intimate, beautiful..”
We stayed for 5 days in this beautiful, white sand, prestine island, which was a 50 minutes speedboat ride away from the airport. We were welcomed with drinks and a briefing of the Island and its guidelines. We were then escorted to our villa after a scrumptious buffet lunch. The villa was beautiful! It had a rich feel with high end wood furnishings and a big comfy bed but the best feature was the unique bathroom which had a mini garden and was open above it. When you went out to the back of the villa we had our own private garden and beyond the shrubbery, the white sand and waves greeted you. It's like you had your very own piece of Maldives just outside your doorstep. Breakfast and lunch were buffets but the sweet surprise was they had sit down dinners that were romantic and intimate as well. The staff were always accommodating and approachable. Their Reservations Manager Arjay was ready to answer any questions way before we ever reached Makunudu. Our waiter Sanin always made sure that we wanted for nothing and were stuffed to our hearts content. Satta made our excursion to the turtle point memorable and made sure our snorkelling equipment were suitable for us. They do not have water villas but I think this was due to the owner's mentality to be as eco friendly as possible. Which can be felt all over the island. They preserved as much of the island natural fauna as possible and by thoughtfully placing villas so they did not disturb much of the island's topography. Every time we went snorkelling we found something new, like sharks, turtles, gigantic starfish and even a large octopus. You didn't even have to swim to far to see all of these. It was truly a memorable experience and we hope to come back on our 10th wedding anniversary.

Gorgeous Island Get Away with picturesque views, Spacious room, attentive staff and delicious food. ”
Room was sea facing which opened into a beach. Luxurious, clean comfortable huts with good air conditioner. It is a beautiful secluded island tucked away about 40 minutes from Male Airport by speed boat. The sea was calm and we could go for a swim or snorkeling at our convenience. The equipment’s were free and we saw lots of different fishes and sharks. The Water Sport Area had number of water activities like Jet ski, Paragliding, diving etc. We opted for the full board package and the food was delicious. There was a four course set menu for dinner and buffet for lunch and breakfast. The people who serve you were very cordial and helpful. There is a Sunset Bar where we sipped on cocktails as we watched the sun set! At night post dinner we saw the big sharks come for feeding at the jetty where we had alighted from the speed boat. There is free wifi in the property and the lady at the reception was very warm and helpful. We had a lovely time in Makunudu Islands!

Ahh Makunudu 😎 Perfect Island for a relaxing holiday”
Makunudu Island Resort.. We often felt like we were the only couple on the island. The bungalow was clean, comfortable & tastefully decorated. Staff were awesome, always a smile on their faces & happy to assist in any way to make our Holliday more enjoyable. Food- buffet breakfast & lunch had a wide variety of choice of delicious foods. Dinner carried between set menu, buffet & Maldivian Night. We thoroughly enjoyed all meals. Snorkeling & Scuba diving were amazing. Other water activities are also on offer. Relax on the beach or in the shade of the palm trees overlooking the ocean from the sun lounges behind your bungalow. One very relaxed holiday. We will return hopefull soon.

Perfect hideaway”
This was not my first trip to Makunudu island: I holidayed there twice before, in 1990 and 1994, and was highly impressed on both occasions. So, after 19 years absence, I was intrigued to find out if the place was the same as I remembered... Well, little had changed, except that this place was even better than I remembered! Peaceful, beautiful and relaxed. The staff are unobtrusive, friendly and smiling (our waiter - Ahmed has worked on this island for 25 years). The HB-included activities, night fishing, and reef snorkelling are great fun (even on previous diving holidays I never got up that close and personal to Manta rays and giant turtles). The restaurant food in particular is excellent, and we opted for their special Sand Bank Affaire excursion: A must-do private lobster dinner for 2 on a tiny sandbank miles from anywhere in the middle of the Indian Ocean. This is a perfect destination for couples or for holidaymakers who are looking for peace and privacy. There's no swimming pool, no discos, no televisions, telephones or wifi. They even have their own "Makunudu time zone", so you really do feel like you've gotten away from it all.

Mosquito, Mosquito, Mosquito ”
The resort tries to keep the island as natural as possible, so it is also a perfect environment for mosquitoes to flourish. Despite the resort executed pest control three times a week and we applied anti-mosquito spray, we got 10 to 20 bites a day. We could stay in the sea, kept walking around, or stay at our bungalow, but could not sit on the beach chairs if there was not strong wind. Mosquitoes would find us within one minute if we just sit in any outdoor area. It became impossible to relax as we have to watch out the attack of mosquitoes all the time. We dared not to open the window during the night, so we had to use AC instead of the breeze of sea wind. Staffs were friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable, but the bathroom needs renovation. The shower curtain was full of mold. Food was very tasty. The island itself was beautiful and coral reefs were fantastic.

Fabulous "robinson crusoe" island”
Given I was traveling on my own, I was a bit worried about finding the right place to stay and Makunudu was perfect. If you like a more intimate and low-key atmosphere, this is the place. The bungalows are set back from the beach: none of these rather overwhelming water villas here...its the Maldives like it was a few years back and retains a very natural feel to it. The island is small and with 36 rooms in total, everyone still seems to have their own private beach. Snorkeling is amazing and the dive school is just superb. The food is also good (with the exception of desert...) and the cocktail bar on the beach at sunset is heavenly.

It was one of the best hidden treasures I have ever come across! This is such a magical place.”
The staff are all incredible and so accomadatiing, nothing was too much trouble. They really made us feel at home. The water is some of the clearest I've ever seen and the reef so lovely, snorkelling everyday was one of our highlights...just beautiful. Food was really good and great priced...if your looking for a complete switch off and relaxation holiday this is the one. I understand why they get a lot of repeat clients, I will be going back as soon as I can! I LOVED IT! I have stayed in some of the top 5 star resorts in the Maldives which are fabulous, but this is the one I'd choose to return to purely because of its unique charm. You will love it :)

great scuba diving spot”
The resort is literally a tiny plot of land in the middle of the Indian ocean. The beaches are perfect and the water is full of life. I saw a huge turtle one morning while snorkeling in 4 feet of water right outside my bungalow. The scuba diving is also great, which is the main reason i went to the island. The food is also well prepared, and the chef will accommodate to any specific food allergies/concerns you have which was also very nice. Only downside for me was the island had no wifi and you have to pay $5 every half hour to use the one computer that does have internet on the island. Also, if you are not a fan of lizards and ants, then you probably will not like the bungalows since you will definitely see some of them crawling around. Its no big deal though, it comes with the territory.

Amazing relaxing island”
Very relaxing place, rarely unspoiled ocean and beaches, romantic athmosphere of indian ocean island. Definetely recomended for divers due to splendid dive sites (sharks, stingrays, huge manta-rays, turtles etc), local reef good for snorcheling, but rather shallow (with low tide watch your belly :), reef drops to about 20m at least 100-150m from shoreline, so this is not very comfortable for freediving. Crystal clean water, especially out of sand banks, where visibility drops a lot due to whirling sand, otherwise visibility perfect more then 30m, sometimes unbelieveable views on dive, hovering on safety stop and seeing the whole walley bellow with sleeping sharks, mantas flying around .. sometimes encountering dolphins, crew will stop the boat, jump into and just swim with them, getting very close - I was 2m from group of 15-25 dolphins, though they were not in mood to play, still exceptional experience. Bungallows ok, small lizards inside (making annoying sounds during night), clima cool, half board not enough when diving, limited possibility to buy snacks, expensive water and non-alcoholic drinks, not even included in allinclusive - for adventures you can boil water and make tea (free). Windsurfing free, catamaran rides also free. Dive-ocean agency - very good stuff, nice and experienced. Not much to do except diving though. Sun glasses necessary (2x to cover lost - happened to me - luckily they were back next morning sticking from sand exactly where they were splashed to the sea :). Robinson Crusoe feel overall, no disco etc. very calm and time to think or just relax. Recomended for the price !

The perfect island ”
We absolutely loved our stay here. The island is so beautiful and everything was so well thought from. The staff were brilliant, food excellent and you could snorkel on the house reef directly from the beach.

Good value for money”
typical maldivian resort which seems that because of a bit outdated bungaluous, is reasonable priced.however, very clean, with new restaurant and good food.the staff at the restaurant could have been more relaxed and less 'procedural' (more smiling would be nice). relatively close to male, which means you will only pay for a 1-hour boat ride.

relaxing. excellent snorkeling. old rooms.”
makunudu island is a nice and small island with excellent snorkeling opportunity. They also offer free snorkeling trip. We had our 5 year old boy with us and he was the only child on the island. But it is a child friendly hotel and beaches are suitable for children. We also had no problem with the food regarding the child and they were kind enough to ask if we needed anything extra for the child. Food was a little above avarage. especially nice dinners. The only downside of the hotel is the rooms are really old. This standart does not really match the price. But if you're ok with less comfort ande more nature u will be fine.
