Above and Beyond...Can't wait to go back!”
This review is long over due! Anyway, this was the first place that I stayed in during my two week solo travel. It's my first time staying in a dorm/mixed dorm and i'm really happy that I stayed here. I felt safe and secure. Their dorm was clean and AC was working well. Also, I did my PADI OWC here! Shout out to Mark who assisted and answered all my questions via email like three months before my trip! Shout out to everyone in the front desk, they were all super friendly and helpful, thank you for helping me keeping my bed when decided to extend my stay so I can finish my PADI OWC! Shout out to the people in the restaurant that I get to talk to whenever I'm there. To everyone who helped and assisted us during our dives, thank you for keeping us safe. And of course, to my Dive Master, Kuya Cleng! Thank you for teaching me and my dive buddy everything we need to learn and know about diving. And for introducing and showing us the beauty of the ocean and everything in it! :) Thanks!
Overall, the place was great. Nice facilities, clean and serviceable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food at the restaurant was really good and well priced. Some cons: - There is only one motor bike driver to run everyone back and forth, unless you want to pay for multiple other drivers. - Sometimes the staff were distracted with other issues to resolve, or from other staff members; instead they should focus on resolving one task at a time without chit chatting. - Lots of flies in the restaurant, I've already recommended they put out some fly tapes.
Not good not bad ”
Sanitation problems. During my stay there, I got food poisoning with subsequent fever. At least 4 people got the same symptoms with me. The management should check the kitchen for raciful viruses and intestinal bacteria as well as common areas. On the whole, it is comfortable and has everything that is necessary for a comfortable stop in it.
When you are living in a dorm with other people it is not uncommon for illness to be spread. During your stay there were 60 people staying at the resort. All the ones that became ill also ate and drank at several of the same places outside of the resort. It is highly unlikely that you became ill from anything here. Our kitchens have the highest food storage and preparation standards, far higher than the legal requirement and in a completely different league to most other places on the island. However, thanks for your review.
A bit far away from everything and a bit expensive to eat in the restaurant. The included breakfast is not that good. The breakfast menu that's not included is way better. The staff is really friendly and welcoming, but the service in the restaurant could use some improvements. Over all a really nice hostel to stay at that has almost everything you need.
value for money”
i got their diver's package and it was worth it. the dorm was clean and the bed was comfy. the showers and toilet was clean but could use a bit more of cleaning. the staff were so nice and accommodating. they also have a big collection of dvds. the food was ok and have lots of choices. the resort is a bit far from the port and is on the other side of the island. you need to ride a bike for 20-30 pesos. the thing about this is they have a secluded beach. their dive gears are quite new and the divemasters are great. shout out to Mae and Jonel! i had fun diving and observing the thresher sharks!!
Private beach is not good for snorkelling nor swimming. Resort is a bit far away from village/market, If you will join everything in the resort such as diving courses etc, this resort is good for "one stop" resort. If you will go to village for food/diving courses etc, this is not good. However, staffs are nice, but restaurant's food are not good. It has its bad and good.
Resort with backpackers ”
Best accommodation on Malapascua, stayed 2 nights here and met some amazing people. Dorm room had good AC and beds were comfy. Worth getting the package deal as you receive a discount on the diving! Swimming pool and kayaks were bonus. Some services like laundry and food were little overpriced though, and restaurant area had ants on the tables.
I had a great time at Thresher Cove. Got my AOW with them, and everyone was very helpful and friendly. The resort is on the northern part of the island. Their food was real good, and worth the price. The single cabana I was in was cute, and quite comfy. It was raining at night, so the breeze from the sea was nice. I'd keep the door open during the day and nap. I felt safe even if I was alone. The wifi was good even at night. All in all a pleasant experience. Might come back for Kemud and some other dives.
Thanks for your kind review. We have been working hard on the wifi and have invested a small fortune to make it reliable. We still have problems with the country's internet during peak times, but we have an alternative rolling out soon. But I have to say, its great to have the first comment that says it was okay :) Thanks Thresher Cove Team
a nice dive resort”
it is located at a cove, in the north east of the island, a quiet place for holiday. the facilities are bit old, but the staff are very friendly and always response and solve problem timely. we really enjoy our holidays here!
Everything was great. Only small complaint was tht some of the waitress forgot our order, happaned several times. Malapascua is very remote so be ready for a long travel to get there. The diving is excellent but low visibility during december januari
Secluded area with high privacy”
At first, I thought that I must be spending quite a lot with the motorcycle rides to be able to go to the main beach or island centre. However, I soon realised that it’s location is perfect when you want solitude. I stayed in their cabanas which has direct sea view. I sleep in the sound of sea waves, and I could stay all day under the tree shade reading or just watching the beach and the skies. They also have free brekky. I always order the Filo brekky with rice, fried fish, egg, and coffee. They serve me fresh fried blue marlin or tangigue. Will surely go back there.
The perfect spot to do some writing!”
I was very happy with the Cabana Small I booked in Tresher Cove. It was the perfect place I had in mind when I decided to get away from the metro and instead of writing in the cafes which is rather costly, I was enjoying the beachfront accomodation (with breakfast) in my little hut at a very reasonable price! I was able to finish my work after a day and spent the next day touring the island before heading back to Cebu City. The resort has very friendly staff and the facilities are good. I'll definitely come back and bring my friends next time around!
Beautiful resort that you can watch the sunrise and sunset with private beach. Really nice stuff. ”
A little bit far from the main beach of malapascua but other than love staying as this are is very quite.
Great Place if your are a diver. If not, I would not recommend the place. To far away from main beach and town. Awesome Breakfast and good food in general, slow on the service though.
Being backpackers and arriving in this resort was a true pleasure (especially for this price). It’s a little out of town but we didn’t mind, nothing is really far on this island! We had a small but wonderfull beach cabana with a supreme view! The dives were a bit on the expensive side compared to other places in the Philippines but got to see the sharks so worth it! Also the staff is super friendly, special thanks to Marbii who made us feel right at home! You are the definition of Filippino hospitality :)
Expensive, but it is a pretty stellar location. ”
Right on your own beach, the dive boat is maybe 200 ft. from where you sleep. Nice gym, diveshop, dvd library and wifi. The staff is really friendly, but when it comes to food and drinks, I promise you there are much cheaper options a 15 minute walk away, your choice, but the motorbike to and from the pier was nice (warch out for their "heavy bag fee" they attempt to add on).
value for money with improvements”
good place to stay for private vacation. our room is grand and perfect for huge group. some staffs are accommodating. serving of meals should be improved - takes longer than usual. equiptments should be kept properly, maintained and functional.
The only con here was the bathroom. At the time they said they were renovating our shared bathroom (for the cabanas) so had to walk far to the other bathroom. Not really nice especially when you need to pee at night. Anyway, the location is perfect - private, quiet and serene although it is really far from the center part of the island. Place is good if you dislike the noise of parties. The staff was nice although they gave us a hard time getting our breakfast orders right. The room was very cozy and it felt homey - you get to watch the waves right when you open your door. Food was okay, nothing special. The 'gym' wasn't exactly what I was expecting. It was a makeshift gym. The pool was okay. They need to clean the beach further.
Staff at the reception was very kind and understanding. We were accommodated just fine. The staff at their restaurant were unaccommodating - we asked to bring our food at the room but told us that they cannot leave the restaurant so we ended up bringing our plates instead. The pool was okay - though it kinda bothered us that they are also practicing the scuba diving sessions there so we waited for them to leave for us to use the pool. All in all, the stay was good (though it was kinda pricey).
Great place for relaxation and night chilling especially after the dive.Friendly crew and clean rooms , The dive package is worth the value for money and we have fun diving with our dive masters Balt and Gibbs. They are super friendly and we learned new things from them. To sum it up, we consider our stay in this resort as one of the best experience and bringing with us memories to cherish.
