          Malvar is (fairly) Malvarous”

Very accommodating staff; large comfortable room (junior suite) for a small premium in price.
Beds too firm for my taste

I have stayed at 2 other hotels in this region of Malate - Pearl Lane and Bianca's. All are good but Malvar seems best in terms of location/room size/price. As others have mentioned hotel is close to mall, bars, cafes etc. I am paranoid about outside noise such as honking horns, karaoke etc, but the room was very quiet (A/C a bit noisy). Did not eat inside hotel during my stay. Helpful staff.

Attentive staff, clean, hot showers, good tv reception and reliable wifi

the friendly staff met and greeted us with a welcome smile. the room and bathroom was clean, tidy and spacious. we had been traveling in palawan the week before and made do with shoddy wi-fi and tv reception and inconsistent hot water access. all was fine at the malvar hostel which i think was well priced.

Very quiet and clean, great location and friendly staff
          Breakfast wasnt so great

Although the cab driver was unable to find the hotel staight away, it really was in a great location. only minutes walk from banks, Robinsons Mall and remedios circle area, I found the location very safe, the staff extremely friendly and everything clean. I paid the extra money to stay in the Junior Suite - and I think it was worth is, as the normal rooms are quite small. while space is the main difference - it is worth it. I would recommend Malvar Hostel, and will hopefully be staying there again next time I am in Manila.

          Friendliness, cleaniness, beautifully decorated.
It will be good if they provide hair dryer. It's not a neccessity, just a suggestion

It took quite some time to find this place actually, we walked & asked for directions and most ppl were not that helpful. By then, 4 of us were sweaty, dusty, tired and moody. I guess finally spotting that hotel can be compared with finding an oasis in a desert :D Much to our surprise, it was a cosy hostel, decorated like a hotel. Friendly staffs they have. In 10 mins, we were settled in our rooms. Furnished beautifully too with comfortable beds, a fridge, huge wardrobe, and clean toilet. Just what we need :) Did i mention that the hostel has lotsa sitting area, classy decorations. Certainly camera friendly too. It's very near to Robinson's Shopping mall. Just a 5-10 mins walk. So does transportation, LRT, MRT. Very convenient if u plan to travel to other sight seeing spots or shopping malls like sm mall & greenhill. We will be going back again, when we happen to be in Manila.

          best budget place in malate”

great location, quiet, safe, excellent in room wifi

Malvar Hostel is more a hotel than a hostel. It is right in the centre of the Malate nightlife district and yet very quiet, no music or street noise to hear. Unforntunately parts of the hotel are extremely noise on daytime. Right behind the rooms of the left side of the hotel is an open space which is used as a staff room. Hence you have from approximately 8 AM until lunch time you think you have people seating next to you chatting away, clattering with plates and listening to music. You can change rooms but there are only 2 rooms of the categorie superior deluxe, only those plus the more expensive suit come with refrigerators. So you have the choice between noise and fridge and no noise and no fridge :-( On the positive side though was the WiFi. I travel A LOT in Southeast Asia and depend on the internet. The WiFi in Malvar Hostel was the fastest and most reliable one i have had in many, many months.

I found this hotel to be very good. It was decent price. Nice big clean rooms. The staff was excellent. Everyone was very kind and caring. The rooms are quite big. And the price is accomodating. The location is central to everything in malate. Good restaurants and massage near by.

          Hidden Jewel”

What a great hotel. Should be rated as 4 star. Only 4 years old and impeccable foyer and rooms. Full size bath, huge vanity and bathroom, king size bed , cable tv, good airconditioning, very helpul, happy and obliging staff whp speal English fluently. Nothing is a problem. Breakfast is normal for Asia, small with choice of American, Continental or Phillipino for 180pesos. Only 300 metres from Robinson's mall and about 30 minutes from Airport. Airport taxis will charge 700 peso but from hotel to airport is only 350peso. An absolute whiz of a hotel (not hostel) and very highly recommended.

This is the best kept secret in Manilla. Absolutely a gem of a hotel. Don't be confused by the name. It is not a Hostel in any shape or form. The staff are delightful, the rooms are huge with king-size bed, cable TV, mini bar (reasonable prices)and immaculate housekkeeping. Fluent English speaking staff are a change in Manilla as most think they can speak but listening is usually difficult, not here. Breakfast is not included with the Junior Suite rate but as breakfast is only 180 peso it is worth taking this room at the same rate as a lesser room with breakfast included.Very highly recommended and rate as 4 star.

          Clean, friendly & courteous staff.
No window to outside (somewhat dark room), no breakfast with Agoda rate. Would have preferred a full-size bed rather than two single beds.

We enjoyed our stay at Hostel Malvar. The room was clean and the property was well-maintained. The staff was friendly and very courteous. The air conditioner work well in the very hot weather outside. The hotel is close to Robinson Place (plenty of restaurants and shopping) and not far from the LRT, baywalk, and Rizal Park.

This hotel is located in a busy district of malate but it's very quiet and peaceful inside the hotel. It's very conviniet that we can reach many shops and restaurants at robinsons manila in a walking distance. All of staffs were very friendly and supportive. i had a good sleep on a comfortable bed in a quiet room. we had some minor trouble wid internet connection during this stay.

          hotel is great, but.....”

good wifi in room, very clean throughout, very safe and secure

Why is this place called a "hostel"? It is a good hotel worthy of 3 stars and at a price that is hard to beat. My gripe is....First day I did not book with Agoda, staff told me only room available was a very good room but more pricey than my first two options. I took it anyway then once in room I looked on Agoda and found they were advertising the cheaper rooms that I wanted and was told was unavailable. So next day I booked through Agoda, saved some money but was again told the type of room was unavailable so had to stay in twin and not double. I am pretty sure on both occasions the rooms I wanted were available as it never appeared very busy and I could see many empty rooms when they were being cleaned. So, a real let down on that side of things. But, it really is a great option if a good, clean, safe hotel is needed in Malate.

We have been Customers for three Manila Visits. This is our fourth stay and there ONLY issue we had were the 'Bed Bugs', which attacked the first night there. At first we thought the bites were Mosquitoes, which the Staff readily treated our room - #110. Later on we realized they were 'Bed Bugs' , of which Complete Treatment of the room needed to be made. We do hope the Management will read this and remedy the issue, before we return to Manila.

Clean, Beautiful rooms. Very good Internet

I stayed 4 Days. Internet was very important for me. Hotel is a good recommendation. Service available 24/7. Nice people. The rooms are beautiful. Absolutely quiet! The area around is, well..., downtown Metro Manila ... many bars, shopping facilities, cafes. It is not a beach resort but to my opinion absolutely worth its money. Especially when you need internet.

It was very good overall. The staff were very courteous and helpful. The interior was a pleasant surprise; you wouldn't guess from the lobby that the inside is very homey and tastefully decorated. Location was very convenient too. You could walk to the historic Malate Church, Robinson's Mall, and famous dining places (Aristocrat, Cafe Adriatico, etc). The breakfast though could be improved :)

          Good location, shabby rooms”

          Near the bars and mall

Based near the Robinson Mall in Malate the hotel is also close to the numerous gay bars and clobs in the area. The staff are friendly and welcoming. There is no safe in the room but a secure box behind the front desk. The junior suite was large but in need of an overhaul. The bathroom cabinet doors were being held together by tape and there was mold on the back of the door. The room itself was clean and we slept well but could definitely do with a re-fit. However for the price it was OK and I would consider staying here again for the location.

          A pleasant surprise”

          Spotless, excellent staff

I was mightily impressed the moment I walked in. The staff were courteous and very helpful. The male attendant at reception eagerly helped us with our bags much to my relief. When we saw the room, I was just blown away. I didn't expect to have that at the price I paid. It was just an excellent stay. I was sad that we had to leave the next day. I will surely come back in the future.

Good inexpensive option for a short stay”

Spacious rooms. Small hotel. Central in Malate.
          Breakfast not included.

I only stayed one night but I have no compaints. Our room was clean and spacious. We were surprised it's actually a nicely decorated hotel and all rooms appear to be private, I'm not sure why it's called a hostel. I wish there was somewhere like this to stay in Makati - inexpensive and comfortable. It would have een better if breakfast was included, there is a small cafein reception to buy breakfast but we left early and didn't try the food.
