Peaceful getaway
Mandira Strathdon Bungalow is a relaxing place to sit outside on the patio and view tea planation fields in peace. The staff is very friendly and the food outstanding. The dinner of local dishes should not be missed. There are rooms which are inside and enclosed without windows only glass doors accessing the indoor patio. I would recommend choose a room which has window accessing the fresh outside air.

Hard to find the place, very far from Newara Elyia
The Bungalow put an address on agoda saying it was on Newara Elyia area, and we plan to arrive one day before we go to Horton Plaine. But our driver told us it was not Newara Elyia area, we searched on google map by using the providing address and still can't find it. We called the hotel number, no one is picking up the phone, said office closed. Then we asked many other local drivers and find another Mandira Bungalow. They helped us on the direction, we drive back and the enterence are very hidden on a side of experess way, easily to get missed. When we finally arrived the right place, we almost took 3 hours to find it. But the room is great, clean, and elegant. But the food was very disappoint, since it was already very late when we arrived at the hotel, we ordered sandwich and grilled potatoes, it took them more than 1 hour to put the food on the table. and the sandwich is cold, grilled potatoes are not grilled potatoes.

Magical surrounding and beautiful rooms
Loved our stay here and can't wait to go back. Staff was very helpful and we were upgraded to a beautiful suite. Only drawback is the food, which was costly and only ok.

A refreshing retreat
The staff were sensitive to our needs, The homely comfort of the bungalow, the scenery.
Our stay was excellent. We came tired and sick, from the heat, humidity, crowds, traffic chaos and strange food of our journey, and left energised to face whatever Sri Lanka threw at us. The staff were very sensitive and considerate. They catered for us individually, to ensure our refreshing stay.

Great rooms but disappointing food
The room was great, spotless, well appointed and very comfortable, though the safe did not function function. The views are magnificent and the setting is wonderful.
The location is a little remote. Ideal for chilling out. The staff are very helpful and attentive. Interestingly, despite the plethora of wine, beer, and shorts glasses on display on the web photos, there is no licence to serve alcohol, which is not clearly stated in the publicity and photographically misleading. I tried both Sri Lanka and Western food and neither stood up to comparison with other venues we visited during our three week tour. Overall I think this accommodation is over- priced.

luxurious relaxation
the food was fabulous (although we ate too much)! The rooms and hotel are spacious and stocked with everything you need and the staff are very attentive
Mandira Strathdon is a place to go to be pampered and to relax. It is set amongst a tea plantation and the gardens are beautiful. The house is reminiscent of a bygone era. However it is quite isolated and there is nowhere else to go to eat. It is also not licensed, which I think should be made clear out the outset. The staff were wonderful and nothing was too much trouble.

Amazing View, Superb Food, Tea Estate Enough said
Its been my dream to live in tea estate atleast once in my life.. I had booked this hotel withouht knowing this is a tea estate.. I was in for a Pleasant surprise.. Its owned by Tata group. With one of the most amazing scenery just out of the room.. the Living room is amazing very old school.. I saw this amazing very old telephone kept there for display.. apparently it was used by the owners as a retreat. The room i stayed was just HUGEEEE. its was one of the best places i have stayed in my life.. it even hasa fire place.. the Dinner would be moonlit.. Amazing food. the curator could not stop us surprising us with great food over and over and over again.. I was transported to a completely forgotten era.. they definetely make you feel like a KING!!!!!!!!
