    Great Value”

Great location, great value. Staff is very nice and helpful. The restaurant food is delicious and not much more expensive than the surrounding places. A shortish walk (maybe 30 min) or a 2 minute tuk tuk gets you right into ruins, same for the main town. Wonderful view of rice fields from the back of the place.

    Good”

Rooms are clean and staff are friendly. Good food for dinner. People came and ate at the hotel who weren't staying there so the food must have been a favourite. Stayed here to get to the elephant Safari. We got external advice from people around appropriate cost for a Safari. Staff at this hotel organised a Safari and it was at a good reasonable cost.

Close to the ruins, friendly & helpful staff, good food”

we stayed at a double a/c room in the new block, it was clean and the paddy fields outside was beautiful ! It's a short distance to the ruins and I suggested to rent a bike (300 rupees) to explore the ruins and the lake nearby.

    Good location, rental bicycles”

Good location - close to the temples, friendly staff, rental bicycles

We stayed only one night and were put in the new building, behind the old one. The room was on the second floor (no elevator, but the building is still being worked on, so this might change in the future?), and very quite. It had a small balcony, and the view of rice paddies - quite nice. The room was clean, spacious, with a ceiling fan, AC, and mosquito nets over the beds. No hair dryer (perhaps you can request it). If you want to enjoy Sri Lankan food, the best way is to inform the hotel staff in advance. Layan was a very friendly manager who greeted us, rented us bicycles at the hotel, and arranged a safari tour to see elephants, which we did as there was not much else to do in the afternoon/evening. It was awesome that the hotel let us use the shower after sightseeing and safari because we had to get on the overnight train on the same day. The food was average, and some dishes on the menu you actually had to order way in advance (sadly).

    Awesome place ”

Friendliness of staff, value for money, quality of food

During our stay Sri Lanka were having there election. Not very many places were open. The staff at Manuel guest house provided entertainment and a typical Sri Lankan eating experience. The staff were always very friendly, good local knowledge good facilities, always offering extra services and excursions. Very lovely and clean rooms.

nice lady owner, good breakfast, good rate

Very good. It was a pleasure to chat to the owner. There was a small mix up by Agoda, so not ours or the owners fault but the lady knocked the price down for one night as we didn't get the room we booked. Don't think she needed to but it was very nice and fair of her anyway.

    Uncomfortable Stay”

This place is a good price and its manageable for the price which included breakfast. But pretty unclean. There was trash lying around the hotel grounds and our bathroom had a very strong odor. We didn't even want to touch the mosquito net. Staff was nice enough and the bike rental was good!

Warm, friendly & surrounded by rice farms ”

The staff at Manel were most welcoming from the moment we arrived. This is a family run guest house with large, clean rooms. As a family of four we had two rooms. Nothing was ever too much for the staff. They booked us on a fantastic, well priced safari on which we saw hundreds of elephants. Our driver was respectful of the animals. It was a super afternoon. We had breakfast each day at Manel and it was yummy and fresh making the most of the local produce. They also happily booked us a driver to our next destination (Nilaveli).

Great location with really friendly staff. The restaurant was excellent and bikes can be hired for only 300 rupees a day. The shower in the ensuite was great. Only downside was that WiFi didn't work in the room as advertised.

Friendly Staff, Good Location and Nice Breakfast

The staff were very friendly and I was given welcome drinks upon arrival. Breakfast was good, wifi was okay and the staff were really nice. My room was fine with A/C and hot water for shower. Would be nicer if there were mosquitoes net.

view to the rice field, proximity to the ruins, good food

The guest house is located in Polonnaruwa old town, close to the ruins. We had a fan room, which is located on the upper floor and overlooks a nice rice field. The AC rooms are located on the ground floor and do not provide this view. The room was comfortable, with hot water. They prepare dinner for reasonable price considering its amount and quality.

Helpful staff, cool bathroom, available bicycles

We had a very nice room ~ loved the designer bathroom! The availability of bicycles made our sightseeing very easy, and the manager was very helpful in arranging a trip to the nearby national park. The wifi was a little weak.

    Staff, location

We spent 2 nights at the Manel guest house. The hotel is run by a firendly family, they try to take care of all your needs, be that food, transportation, or going on a safari. The hotel is a bit on the dodgy side, but all in all good value for money. The highlight is the staff, who speak good english, and really cover all your needs.

Nice clean room with big window. Perfect location cca 5min walk from polonaruwa ancient city ticket office. 3min walk to other restaurants and old downtown. Amazing restaurant in hotel. You have to try local rice and curry. Newly opened 2013 budhist temple next to hotel with amazing paints.

    Great Location for Exploring Polonnaruwa”

Location, friendly staff, wonderful breeze off the tank

Manel Guset House was ideal for our purposes; we had gone to Polonnarua to visit the ancient city and there was Manel delightfully situated on the edge of paddy fields and yet less than a kilometer to the museum where we needed to purchase our tickets. We ate all our meals there the evening ones out the back where the breeze from the tank (resevoir) came sweeping down in a wonderfully refreshing way We hired bikes to give ourselves mobility and this was an excellent move alowing us to not only to visit the ruins but also the bund (dam wall) where we could look out at the sunset across the tank.

A good budget place to stay in Polonaruwa”

Rooms are basic but ok, not too noisy. Bathroom wasn't clean (by the look of it, it's been a while!). Location was perfect, close to the ruins. Staff was really nice and helpful. You can rent some bikes for 600Rps. Breakfast is ok (toasts, omelette with way too much salt, fruits). Perfect for one night!

    Good location but noisy.”

It's good location and bicycles are provided for day trip in temple area. Staff are friendly. Unfortunately, the day we went was not a good day. It has a big tourist group exhibited a party on ground floor and the they were allowed to make noise till very late. It was a tired night after 5 hours on the road from Colombo. And also, this guesthouse has no accommodation for driver if you book from Agoda.
