Basic amenities, cozy, friendly & helpful staff”
Duration of stay: 7D6N from 5th Jan - 11th Jan 2017 Location: The homestay is located within a quiet neighbourhood. Our airport transfer ride didn't go all the way in. Nevertheless, once you get used to the area, it is actually quite accessible and you will appreciate the coziness of the street after a long day in the hustle and bustle of the city. My friends and I used Grabcar quite a lot while we were in Jogja. We used the street "Jalan Kol Sugiyono" as a guide as that is the main traffic road from which to enter the street leading to Mango Tree. No worries though, most of our Grabcar drivers were able to locate us. The homestay is also within walking distance (roughly 10 minutes) to Jalan Prawirotaman where there are plenty eateries, convenience stores (Indomaret, the 7-Eleven of Indonesia), spas and a nail salon. My friends and I would walk there for lunch or dinner or to buy groceries. Mango Tree offers airport transfer. We paid IDR120,000 for one way trip (price subject to change). We had no trouble finding our driver as he was holding up a placard with my name. Hotel room/facilities: We stayed in the Pavilion Room + 1 extra bed. The Pavilion Room is a more private room with its own attached bathroom. We were 3 female travelers and wanted our privacy. There was one queen size bed for 2 and the extra bed was placed on the floor. The floor is generally clean but it can get quite dirty from the dirt outside (this is mostly our own fault). There is no wardrobe to hang your clothes. However, there was one cabinet to place our miscellaneous stuff (snacks, first aid box, water bottles) and two small side tables with drawers. It was quite cramped for 3 people but my friends and I were cool with it. If you're the kind who really needs a lot of room, then maybe this might not suit you. The bathroom is big and spacious. It's a wet bathroom. The wash basin is surprisingly modern. Good flushing toilet and hot water is available. Food: Our package included free break
very nice hostel - absolutely recommendable”
We had a great time at the Mango Tree Homestay! The location was perfect for our needs, as you can reach both the city center (Sultan's palace and further) by foot as well as the "backpacker's main street" Prawirotaman. (And if you don't like walking you can always get a riksha to take you.) The local neighborhood is friendly and not touristy, the staff is nice and helpful. Breakfast was typical hostel-breakfast (toast with butter/marmalade and tea). The living area and the garden are nice! I would definitely recommend this homestay and will certainly stay there whenever I come back to Yogya! :-)
More than best bang for the buck”
Selecting homestay, you will get more than best bang for your bucks but also you will have chance to make a friend- the host, mr. Irfan was really nice and passionate about what he does. We arrived at our homestay really late (+2 hours) but he was kind enough to take us to buy sim card and show us dinner place himself. He was very open about sharing indonesian travel experience also. Overall, if you are looking for a basic lodging with extremely nice and helpful host, best value for money ever look no further than mango tree homestay.
My home in Yogyakarta. ”
I always look for a place that (a) has access to places to see but (b) out of the tourist crowds so Mango Tree fits the bill. It is within the residential area so I was able enjoy on being somewhat a local - hearing a Muslim prayer on a nearby temple, eating a great nasi goreng with iced lemon on an eatery just within the street, women practicing their cultural dance at dusk for a community event while their children are happily playing. The house is well-maintain and if you are done with all the temple runs and mountaineering, you could just relax at the porch that is under the Mango Tree. =)
Wonderful place to stay!”
This place is very nice, and it's on a quiet street. The owner is very helpful, and he can give lots of useful information about Yogyakarta and traveling in Java. I would definitely stay here again!
Overall i love this place!!”
I stayed here for 4 nights and i totally feel like being at home in Singapore. As a solo traveller, and a women, being the only person in the foreign country, i don’t feel like a foreigner at all. Eventhough the homestay is quite away from the road, it is assessible by walking 5 mins to the halte to take transjogja or you could even take gojek/grab. The neighbourhood ppl is friendly & that is what i love about Indonesia ppl. Kudos to Pak Ifan, Pak Eko & one of the lady helper (that i forgot to ask for her name) for making the homestay feel so homey and my stay a wonderful one! I’ll surely come back cos i miss this place already.
Absolutely recommendable accomodation!!”
One of the best guesthouses / homestays I've stayed in Indonesia. The rooms are clean and the interior is simple but cosy with an eye for detail. The house is surounded by a lovely garden, perfect for chilling. Breakfast is basic (as in most of the other indonesian accomodation). Although staff does not speak a lot of English, they are absolutely helpful and eager to support with every request you might have. The owner - who speaks English fluently - even booked a domestic flight for me as my foreign credit card was not accepted. Absolutely recommendable accomodation!!
Good homestay but a bit far from central city”
It was a bit difficult to find this homestay at first. But when you did, afterwards you should know where it is easily. This place is quiet enough and feels homey to me. Though this place is a bit far from central city. The staff are also very friendly and helpful, especially when I was asking questions related to my destinations in Jogja. And oh, the receptionist is not 24 hour. For me it's not a problem, but might be problem for others.
Good place to stay, very nice owner &staffs”
Even there were 2-3 loud muslim prayings each day which disturb my stay at the beginning but it's acceptable. This place is safe and owner & staffs are very nice and trustable. You may need to prepare Indonesian talking dictionary to communicate with staff and people. This is my first time staying at homestay but it was very impressive with this one, you will feel like home.
Situated at the end of a lane and was so close to the local market which is lovely and colorful in the morning (just ask the local for the shortcut, 200m from the house). Clean and tidy. I love all the corners of this homestay.
This homestay makes me feel like in my own home. It's clean and beautiful. The staff are super nice and friendly. The only problem is the location if you bring car since the street is not wide.
Great value for money, especially for solo travellers who plan to stay in Jogja for a couple of days. Location is not in the city center but not that far from the highway too (walking distance from the nearest bus stop). Although, from my experience, it's quite hard to find the location if you ride GrabBike or Gojek. Oh, and the lights in my room were not working during my stay.
next time will come once again”
seems like a big family. I arrived deep into the night. the staff helped me to update my room. the homestay is quiet and clean. the location seems difficult to find. breakfast is simple but enough. the staff is very friendly and nice.
I booked 4 nights stay in Mango Tree, but the booking was cancelled prior few days before my flight date. As the reason of the cancellation was due to the room being unavailable, rearrangement of 3 nights stay at Mango Tree was made and reconfirmed through Agoda Customer Service. However, on the day of check-in, I was told that I could only stay for 2 nights and suggested that I seek for another accomodation elsewhere. The staff suggested I move to his friend's accomodation which I have to fork out extra RM200 on top of the refund I receive. I rejected it as it was a ripped off and I felt something fishy. In the end, I spent my first day from walking around unfamiliar area searching for nearest hotel with no help. The aircon was very hot and washroom was dirty and moldy. Totally dissappointed with the overrated review of this accomodation.
lovely little place”
We had the dorm and the entire house to oourselves in was nice. The owner is really nice and available all the time if you need help. The only negative thing moght be the location, a little far from the center and the damn temple located besides with the ceremonies in the middle of the night.. bring your earplugs and you will be fine! ;) overall, we enjoyed our stay there!
Nice, pleasent and quiet homestay. Owner is helpful and knowledge with very good english.
Cheap homestay with no pretentions. Room was spartan but clean. Location was great ans staff very helpful. Breakfast was quite poor but nice stay in general
Friendly people, nice homestay”
Being a homestay we weren't expecting much confort, but our room mas super small but very comfortable. The staff was friendly and helped us renting a bike, which was useful since the hotel is a bit far from restaurants, bars and markets. The shared bathrooms were clean and organized on the first night, but throughout the following two nights they became quite dirty and there were loundry everywhere, very unpleasant and disappointing. But our major problem during our stay was when we booked a car to got see the sunrise at Borobudur. They recommended and booked a driver to pick us up at 4 am. We woke up at 3.30 in the morning, got ready and waited, waited and waited. The driver never showed up, the staff couldn't even contact him. We missed our chance to see the famous sunrise at Borobudur and woke up super early for nothing. When we asked what happened, they said the driver couldn't find the hotel. THE DRIVER THEY RECOMMENDED AND CONTACTED FOR US COULDN'T FIND THE HOTEL. Like that made sense.....
the place is so strategic, near to the city. also they have good ambiance there
clean, nice and worth it”
staff are nice and helpful, rooms are comfort and cozy. it is located in narrow street, is better to rent a bike to there, and they have park for parking
Free Wi-Fi in all rooms!
