5 Stars All The Way”
We stayed for 6 nights at The Mangosteen and loved each and every minute. The views from the different points of the property are exceptional, and their free shuttle bus to Naiharn beach is an extra added bonus. The Mangosteen is a little out of the way, some 50km from the Airport and 30 minutes from both Phuket Town and Patong Beach, which was the only downside. The staff at the resort go out of their way to make your stay as relaxed and enjoyable as possible and go out of their way to accommodate any special requests. This resort is definitely 5 stars all the way!

Amazing rooms!”
Despite seeing reviews saying the Mangosteen was quite isolated, it was only a 6-7 minute walk to a few shops/restaurants/bars, so the location is not bad at all. The free beach shuttle works like clockwork. However the reviews commenting on the fairly high Mangosteen prices for food and drinks were quite accurate - when comparing them to locally run restaurants etc, but as a resort, the prices were in keeping with other Thai resorts and pretty close to UK prices. For example, a glass of wine was 290 Baht, roughly £6.50 (all wine in Thailand is similarly priced in restaurants/resorts). The beer price at 160 Baht for a small bottle is quite high, but the cheaper minibar prices do make up for that. This is a positive review...excellent quality food, amazing - big - rooms with fantastic bathrooms. The staff were 99% very friendly and efficient. The pool area is good, albeit fairly small. Do not miss the Thursday night Asian buffet, the Monday night Thai one sounds similarly good.

The Hardest Part Was Leaing”
Let me preface this review by saying this. Whilst in the pool at Mangosteen, I was chatting to some young Singaporean fellow in the pool. I asked him what he thought of Mangosteen. He replied to the effect that "...it's a bit old." How sad that a hotel has to be new in order for some people to like it. Surely the patina of age adds character? So how was it? Our taxi driver turned into a small Soi (lane) marked by pot holes and gravel. Surely this can't be it I wondered? We turned into the sweeping driveway and pulled up at the foot of the stairs to heaven. Check-in was seamless. The paperwork was already prepared and no, it wouldn't be necessary to see our Agoda vouchers. Within minutes we were in our rooms. But these are no ordinary rooms. These rooms are free-standing villas, each with it's own patio, outdoor furniture and hammock. Inside the cathedral ceilings are complimented by solid teak doors, gleaming dark parquet floors and inlaid terracotta tiles. Every design element looks handmade and is formed from natural materials. The shower is an "outdoor" affair, which means that the shower room is covered by a thatched roof and naturally ventilated. So appropriate to the tropics. I awoke to the sound of bird song and opened my eyes. Through the windows the Andaman Sea could be seen in the distance, the lights of the fishing boats bobbing in the distance. Breakfast is truly sumptious. European tastes are catered for, but for the "do in Rome" traveller, there were Thai dishes, fruit platters and eggs cooked to order. The pool is the coup de gras of this fine establishment. 24 hour use of the pool is "expressly permitted" and little wonder. It is magnificent day and night. Water spills from glass chutes into the moat surrounding the restaurant. Fountains of trumpeting elephants play water and bridges cross the pool to Reception and other parts of the hotel. Few pools exceed 1.8m deep, but this salt cleaning system (not chlorine) is a labyrinth of different dept

My trip to the Mangosteen Resort and Spa”
I came across the Mangosteen Spa and Resort on agoda and was drawn by the excellent rating and beautiful pictures, and I made a booking. The ride to the hotel was a rather long one, with the hotel being situated at the south of Phuket, while the airport was at the north. After about 45 minutes, we turned into a small side road and went up a very steep slope to arrive at our hotel. The reception area was very breezy and welcoming, but although it had a very resort-like feel to it, I felt it looked a little bit old. The staff however, were extremely warm and friendly and the welcoming drink was rather well-received after the ride from the airport. We walked further to take a look at the hotel, and the pool and the view was absolutely fantastic! We could see down to the beach, and much of the nearby islands. Also the pool (although smaller than what the pictures show) was beautiful as well. We then checked into our villas, which were a short walk away from the reception area. The villas were extremely spacious and well-thought out, but the TV was very small, and the interior of the room looked rather old. Nevertheless it was extemely clean. Overall, we were satisfied with the room; the jacuzzi at the back and hammock in the front were a nice touch. We had lunch at the restaurant. While the food at the restaurant was rather nice, but the ala-carte menu was quite pricey (about the same as a high-end restaurant elsewhere). The complimentary breakfast on subsequent days was good, with quite a decent spread. The spa was not bad as well, and the receptionist offered us a slight discount off the price on the menu. The massage rooms were slightly small, but overall the experience was enjoyable and relaxing. What made the difference to us was the excellent service at the reception. Since it was our first time to Phuket, we didn't know where to go or how to get there. The concierge was extremely proactive and helpful on all our queries. He would recommend where to go.

Great hotel with great service”
It was my first time to Phuket and I really enjoyed my stay at the Mangosteen. The service was excellent and the staff was super-friendly and very helpful. I totally enjoyed the complimentary fruits in the room and the daily breakfast (the banana shakes on our last day there were just awesome) as well as the spectacular views and the swimming pool. The rooms were very clean and spacious, and the high ceilings were a big plus. The bathroom design was also beautiful. As for the location, it's close to naiharn, which is a great beach with a lagoon and a great view of the sunset. there are free shuttles from the hotel to the beach but you need to time your activities well or you could be left behind and have to pay a hefty cab fee to get back. There's also a free shuttle to Rawai beach in the evening but I only went there during the day so can't really speak of the nightlife in the area. Getting to other parts of the island could be tricky if you try to take public transport and extremely overpriced if you take a taxi. What we ended up doing was renting a scooter bike with the help of the hotel staff. overall, it's a great little hotel with a quiet, peaceful atmosphere. if you're not afraid to pay a little or to be a little daring with your transportation options the location's not too bad either

Nice Hotel for people who are looking a place to r”
We had a nice two week holiday at Mangosteen Resort and Spa around christmas and new year. Although the resort doesn't advertise itself as a family resort we felt very welcome and have no complaints about the service. The location is a bit far from anywhere (you can walk to some nearby restaurants but probably don't want to) but taxis are available so there's nothing to worry. The hotel has arranged a tuk tuk service to the beach if you don't want to hang around the pool. Both options are ok. The Spa has very nice ayurveda treatments If you are into that sort of thing but you can get western style treatments from there are well. Or take the tuk tuk to the beach and get yourself massaged there. The Spa people know what they are doing. They even have free yoga classes (for beginners) that is very nice. And to top of it all you get fresh fruit to your room every day. There are better hotels in Phuket (not saying better value) but we felt ourselves very welcome and enjoyed our stay. Definitely worth the money.

Friendly Staff, Relaxing Atmosphere.”
Don't be scared by the little laneway you turn into that is full of potholes and space for one way traffic. Upon reaching the Resort a security manned gate will be raised and you will ascend the drive way to the front reception. The staff welcome you with moist towels and refreshing drinks while they check you and your luggage in. The resort has views over the water and a few islands off the coast, but this view is limited. Whilst the pool overlooks this area as well when you are dipping in the pool you will not see the view. The pool is beautiful, clean and surrounded by frangipani trees which were in bloom and fragrant. the pool bar however was rarely staffed and made getting drinks a bit of a process by drying off and walking up to the restaurant to get someones attention. I also found the drinks took some time to get made. The restaurant serves a buffet breakfast and was very tasty. Staff ensure your table is cleared as you eat. At dinner the meals are 5 star quality at a very reasonable price. The rooms are clean and made up daily, the outdoor shower and bath have a nice feel to them, however the spa does get insects in it during the day which need to be rinsed out before use and one wall separates you from the outdoor shower area of the adjoining villa. keep this in mind that any noise you make in the outdoor bathroom can be heard by your neighbor. The hotel has a free shuttle down to Nai Harn beach every hour from 8am to 6pm. The Resort is family friendly, and many people were there with young to early teen children. Despite this it was not overrun with kids and was pleasant and quiet at all times through the day.

Great hotel with outstanding service”
Honeymooners couple arriving at Mangosteen after a week in Chiang May we had a bit of hard time finding the hotel - it's located at the middle of small soy in a surrounding not really giving a clue about the coming beauty. Once found, it amazes with both design and service of the staff. We were greated, upgraded and treated like ... honeymooners like to be. So for us, it definitely was the best hotel in Phuket!

Beautiful Hotel, great views and luxurious rooms”
Golden Tulip Mangosteen Resort was one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed at. The staff is very friendly, and helpful. The Rooms are large with amazing exotic bathrooms and large comfortable beds. The Pool area is very gorgeous with a great veiw overlooking the ocean. The restaurant has excellent breakfast selection and great drinks. I will definatly stay at this hotel again.

Great Hide-away Hotel”
Beautiful hotel and grounds. We got a great deal on Agoda, so it was excellent value for the money spent. The pool area is beautiful and you can easily spend the entire day there. If you want to go into NaiHarn, the shuttle runs every hour during the day. NaiHarn has a great public beach and the best massages I have ever found. It is definitely not a part area, but a nice place for families or those wanting to get away from it all. We will definitely be going back.

Mangosteen Resort and Spa”
The mangosteen resort is a great place to stay if you want privacy and peace and quiet. It is about 50mins from the airport and is very secluded. The nearest shops are about 10mins walk away and the resort town is about 5mins by taxi. It is not really within walking distance of anywhere so you need to take taxi's, which are reasonablly priced and they offer a free shuttle bus to the beach. The villas are very spacious and comfortable, the pool is very nice if a little smaller than expected. The staff are very helpful, they allowed us a late checkout with no charge, I can not fault any aspect of the hotel, my only minor complaint would be that the restaurant didn't have a large choice of Thai food on the menu.

a great stay, as always”
I had a great stay at Mangosteen. It was a bit expensive, considering it is low season but well worth it. The room is beautiful and because there were hardly any people, I felt like I had the whole pool to myself. THe staff are friendly and helpful. The room was clean and spacious. The buffet was delicious, with a wide variety of food.

Garden like resort on the hills”
The pool area is very nice, also made garden like. You can swim around the main restaurant. The pool has shallow and deep (200cm) end and few jacuzzi like massage spots as well. There is also pool side bar. The Superior room we had was a bit worn out but the overall look was nice. From the upper bar over the reception opens a view over the Chalong and to Cape Panwa. You can see Big Buddha as well. Too bad that the bar was always completely empty - most likely due season. Staff is friendly and helpful. Hotel provides hourly shuttle to Nai Harn beach and in the evening a shuttle to Rawai where you can find many good restaurants. Mangosteen has own restaurant, but it is pricey. They have good selection of wines as well. We ate dinner there once. The food is good and well made, but on the expensive side.

Beautiful Hotel in Beautiful Surroundings”
We had a brilliant stay at Mangosteen. We were upgraded to the Royal Suite which was perfect for us traveling with 4 adults and 1 baby - it was big enough to still give us all privacy. The views from the balcony were amazing. There was a jacuzzi on the balcony which unfortunately did not work but would have been great if it did. The room was beautiful, food in the restaurant was delicious-some of the best we've had in Thailand.

Beautiful Hotel and setting, but costly!”
i have stayed in thailand often and i was happy with this resort. it isn't very close to much of what phuket has to offer, so it is best to rent a motor bike if you want to get around. also it is very expensive. seriously $8 for a cocktail at the bar? even with that, if you can get a deal on the room it is a beautiful place to stay. the staff speaks good english and they are very friendly.

Perfect”
We absolutely loved our stay at the Mangosteen. It was great to located away from the busy crowds of Patong, but was still very easy to get around and see the island. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a Royal Jacuzzi suite, and it was absolutely perfect. The hotel’s spa was very professional, and definitely worth a visit.

Relaxation at Mangosteen Resort”
I had a very nice and relaxing short holiday at the Mangosteen Resort with my boyfriend, swimming and enjoy copious breakfast every morning. The staff is polite and serves carefully. I am planning to stay there again when I am in Phuket the next time.

Really beautiful, but very isolated hotel”
Had a lovely stay at the Mangosteen. Rooms, pool, bar and all communal areas are of a very high standard. It is the perfect place to 'get away from it all'. Courtesy bus takes you to Nai Harn beach during the day and Rawai at night.

Quite and peaceful hideout”
The Hotel is nicely maintain and well-kept. nice scenery, quiet, clean! However, the location is not very friendly, definitely need transport to anywhere. Transport is Expensive even to the nearest venue. e.g I need to go to a nearby SPA which take only 6mins (less than 4km) from the hotel, they charge me 200bht one way!! Hotel provide free transport to the Naiharn beach which is a nice beach! At nite they provide free transport to Rawai and Naiharn Beach if you want to eat there. I wish the hotel staffs can be more helpful, it felt like they are obliged to answer you when u ask them anything. And may be the hotel can provide free transports to some other nearby amenities, or to common venue like Phuket town, Patong beach.

bargain boutique”
The location of the Mangosteen affords beautiful views, although it means that the beach is a (free 5 minute) shuttle bus away. After we had eaten in the restaurant once, we never went anywhere else again. Excellent Thai, and the European food we saw looked very nice aswell (We love Thai so never eat anything else when in Thailand). Staff are very attentive and friendly, and our 4 year old daughter had a great time (although there were no other families there, it's predominantly but not exclusively a romantic retreat). We found the value to be excellent for what we received in return and would recomment it to anyone.
