Absolutely fantastic!”

Experience the untainted beauty of the Philippines and its people

My family and I stayed at the Mangrove Resort for six days. This was our first stop on our vacation in Palawan. I traveled with my wife and four children (14, 10, 5, and 3). I wanted my family to experience the real Philippines. Mangrove Resort opened our eyes to the true beauty of the philippines. Mangrove Resort is owned and operated by Claude and his wife Marichu. Mangrove Resort is located in a mangrove forest right off the Langogan River about 1 1/2 hour car ride from Puerto Princesa. If want a plastic-covered version of the Philippines do not come here. This is the real deal; virgin rainforest where you will find every kind of local flower, fruit, plant, and animal. There are mosquitos; you will need bug repellent and anti-itch cream. The cottages are rustic but have all the necessities. There is no air conditioning but the fans were sufficient. All the food is from Claude's garden or from the locals. If want you want something in particular just ask. We wanted to eat more filipino foods: fresh seafood, caldereta, chicken curry, and sinigang and the staff were happy to accommodate. The food prices are extremely reasonable. During our stay, we: - Ate delicious fresh seafood and filipino food - Rode a motorcycle to a nearby cocoanut grove to swim in the river - Walked daily so that my kids could play with the local children. - Visited the local fishing village to see the flying fish and get fresh seafood for dinner - Took a bangka (local motorboat) to go swim at the beach - Spent quiet time just listening to the rainforest - And of course went Karaoke with locals! Claude and Marichu were incredible hosts that took every care possible to make our vacation memorable. They truly love the philippines. During our stay, Mangrove Resort opened our eyes to the true beauty of the philippines. It helped my whole family appreciate all of the untainted beauty of the Philippines and its people.

A Touch of Paradise in Langogan”

Our first stop in the Philippines was the island of Palawan. Here we decided our first stay would be at the lovely Mangrove Resort. The resort is situated in the quiet fishing of Langogan right on the (?) river roughly two hours by bus from Puerto Princesa. As its name suggests, mangrove trees are plentiful along the shoreline of the. As we entered the grounds of the resort we were warmly greeted by the staff and the owner, Claude. A refreshing welcome beverage cooled us and quenched our thirst. There are several common areas for the guest to lounge and visit with each other as well as the staff. Each has its own unique tropical view of the surrounding garden areas. In the distance, mountains and coconut trees line the horizon. The short walk to the river pier gives way to an amazing scene of tranquility along the (?) river. We partook in a short canoe trip upriver our first evening. We were also treated to a freshly caught Mahi Mahi for dinner that evening. Speaking of cuisine, the food at Mangrove Resort was simply amazing. From traditional Filipino to European inspired dishes, anything placed in front of us was quickly devoured. There are numerous activities one can partake in at the resort. Claude arranges everything and provides the guides directly from his staff. Of all the activities offered, we decided on a fishing trip with a local boatman and fishermen and two hikes to nearby waterfalls. The fishing excursion was a memory that will never be forgotten. We set out early in the morning from the river pier at the resort and were in deeper waters in no time ready to catch one of the staples of the local diet - flying fish. After setting out a kilometer of net we did what every fisherman does - wait. And, after the wait, we pulled our catch in. With the bounty from the sea we headed to a private beach for a wonderful shore lunch with the crew. Merriment was had all around and soon we found ourselves becoming quick friends with everyone. We

The best choice for adventure”

Very nice owners and friendly staff, a beautiful resort in marvellous environment, perfect food, river and sea for great adventures

We traveled with for kids and we wanted to stay out of town of Puerto Princesa in a beautiful nature with beach... We got all and even more. The Mangrove resort has great, kind and very friendly owners who make you feel (with their people) like being at home. Rooms are clean, wide and nature around is fabulous. The included breakfast is tasty, but the best are lunches and dinners. Cooker is an magican with food. There are many things to do around. We went kayaking up the river, visited fishemen village, swim at the sandy beach, rent a motorboat to get snorkeling for whole day, went to Batak village only 15minutes ride from resort and also to Underground river (the same distance to go there as from Puerto Princesa). And the owner always kindly prepare us all the instruction for our trips with prices and everything... And with bus to ElNido we didn`t have any problems. Only five hours with Cherry bus (wifi ob board) Really perfect deal for adventure lovers, birds and buterflies lovers, and for those who come to rest in nice nature with nice people...

Happy to come back”

I knew Mangrove Resort while cycling around Palawan more than a year ago. It was in a good location to end up a stage starting in Puerto Princesa after having stopped at Olangoan Falls, just less than 10km from Mangrove Resort. After a bit more than a year and also while cycling again around Palawan I didn't doubt to stop again at Mangrove Resort. It was really good to see them and enjoy their company again even if just for a day. The place is really nice, the garden is awesome and to be able to jump into the river and refresh after a hot day is priceless. Claude, Quentin and the rest of people in the lodge are really nice and friendly. Food is fresh and delicious and rhis time even wheat beer was available. For sure I will be back!

Missing this place...”

Staff, Nearby Activities, Palawan Culture

I am sad to be writing this review... because it means I am no longer at the Mangrove Resort! Wow… what an amazing experience. My husband and I traveled to Mangrove Resort because it sounded like a good place to experience the culture in Palawan. This is exactly what we got! Eating local food, mostly from Mangrove Resort’s garden (they make the BEST papaya soup) fishing with the locals (we caught tons of flying fish- it was amazing!) hiking to nearby waterfalls, learning to climb coconut trees (from their awesome worker Amy!) and my husband enjoyed playing basketball with locals, while I enjoyed getting massages at the resort and taking pictures of the amazing scenery. The owner’s Claude and his beautiful wife Marichu are the best hosts. Upon arrival Claude upgraded our room to the family bungalow-for no extra charge. It was a beautiful place to sit and read a book on the deck, or watch the wildlife. The grounds are beautiful at the resort- full of gorgeous flowers and plants, as well as banana trees and the mangrove down below is neat with huge butterflies and fish that run across the water. The workers at Mangrove Resort went out of their way to accommodate us and make sure we had everything we needed. They even took us to sing karaoke! Staying at the Mangrove Resort was like staying with family. We are already planning our next trip there and my husband and I both agree that going to Langogan was the best vacation we have ever had. Tips: Remember to bring bug spray and cash, as there is no ATM in town. If you are interested in a vacation that involves partying and heavy drinking-this is not the place for you. If you enjoy nature and experiencing real Filipino culture- there is not a better place than Mangrove Resort!

We didn't want to leave! ”

Enjoying Nature, Hanging out with the Local Community, Staff Hospitality

My husband and I had planned to stay for 3 nights only and then travel along to Puerto Princesa to complete our Phillipines adventure. We soon changed our minds after arriving and meeting Claude and Marichu and 'family' (aka staff!), who were beyond welcoming and made us feel like part of the team. We ended up staying the week and enjoyed every minute of it. Whether you are looking for activities like waterfall treks, boat trips, fishing, karaoke with the locals OR just relaxing on the hammock sipping some fine cheap rum and chilling with some sweet kitties, Mangrove Resort will deliver! Being surrounded by nature and wildlife and breathing in the fresh air day in and day out is just priceless. Learning about the Langogan culture - the people, the food, the lifestyle - is an unbelievable experience. We recommend highly. And look forward to visiting again someday! See you soon, Mangrove Resort!

Great days in Langogan”

Staff, Nature, Locals

We have spent 5 nights in Langogan at Mangrove Resort, which is located approx 1,5 hours drive from Puerto Princesa. I have to say that hospitality of Claude and Marichu is above all expectations Especially the Karaoke night :P), everything what we have read in the feedbacks is true. The resort itself is not big (like 4 bungalows), you feel more like a private guest of their family, the garden is awesome, the direct access to the river is priceless. This place is definitely not for those who are looking for typical tourist attractions, shopping malls, restaurant, or crowdy beaches, watersports etc. but for those who are interested to taste the peaceful life of real Philippines, and the awesome nature and wildlife! It is highly recommended to spend at least 4-5 days there, to have enougth time for a relaxing paddling on the river, or to go for a whole day jungle tour, or just snorkeling and resting on one of the nice beaches. If I need to mention anything to improve, I would say that more furniture in the bungalow (we were in the Queen size) would be useful, because without any wardrobe or cabinet is a bit hard to keep the room and the things "organized". The village and the people are extremely friendly, we enjoyed so much to interact with them, to listen to their stories (about the 500 years old Mango tree) or tasting fruits from hands of local people (like cocoa), or having a swim in the river with the kids, and check the daily catch in the fishing village. Nothing else can describe better our stay there. We still miss the smiles of kind people in Langogan and we are going to return somewhen!

Arnold Schwarzenegger's voice "I'll Be Back"”

Very clean, Amazing hospitality, Great location

I spent the entire month of January on Palawan. 2 weeks in El Nido and 2 weeks in Mangrove. This being my first trip to the Philippines, It was quite an adventure traveling alone. I didn't experience any of the "horror stories" that I was warned about from the other guys in my shop. I was welcomed with the warmest greeting I have gotten from a hotel. He gave me a tour of the fishing village which I loved going to. That night for dinner I was asked if I wanted these huge shrimp (ones that I still can't get over how big them suckers are) or a crab that was kicking the air in a useless attempt to escape. The choice was easy, the crab had to be put out of its misery, and it was amazing. The room I stayed in was the double queen bungalow. There was no mosquito net as the room is sealed and has a hot shower. The whole resort is very clean, and it's quiet. There is no town noise as you're not really in a town or anything. No it's not on a beach, but it’s a short walk to it; however, it is right next to an incredible river. My first trip down the river was an experience unlike any other. The river is very calm, it was over cast and raining in the distance. I listened to the monkeys and birds as I paddled as quietly as I could. All in all, It well exceeded my expectations. I felt as if I became part of their family. From Karaoke to days at the beach or chilling at the resort, they made sure I was having a good time. This place was the perfect spot to recharge my drained batteries. So now I'm planning next years trip and I most defiantly will be returning to Mangrove Resort.

A must stay resort for peace and tranquility”

owner was very kind, very peaceful, private river, private beach, away from noise of the city

If you want a few days of peace and relaxation, Mangrove Resort is a must stay! It's away from the city and very quiet. The owner is extremely kind and made us feel like family. He served us delicious meals everyday, and always added a little something extra to help us experience Palawan. Mangrove has a river in the back where you can canoe and see the beautiful sights. It's also a 3 minute walk from a very secluded beach where you will have all the privacy you want. This is not the place for someone looking to get drunk and party every night. I would recommend this for someone who loves nature and just needs a few days to get away or a couple who want their privacy. Also, the locals were very kind and weren't trying to rip you off like it is typical in bigger areas such as Puerta Princesa and El Nido.

The things we liked about the Mangrove resort: - Claude and Marichu are excellent hosts, friendly, helpful and easy-going; - Room is quite simple, but comfortable and clean; - Food is home-style, prepared according to traditional Filipino recipes, very tasty and always served timely and with a smile; - Located in the heart of countryside the resort fascinates you with truly fresh air, bright flowers, green palms, massive mangroves, colorful birds and nimble squirrels. Add to those picturesqueness of the Langogan river, close proximity of the quite secluded beach and plenty of open-air activities (hiking, boat trips, fishing, etc.) and you’ll get the impression; - Fishing boat tour offered by Claude is memorable experience of local fishing with net, there you can evidence day-to-day work of Palawan fishermen, enjoy each flying fish catch and afterwards try it freshly cooked on the beach; - Riding the bicycle first time after early childhood might be real fun; - Claude’s experience and lifestyle are impressive and make each conversation you might have with him quite interesting and informative; - Cat lovers are very welcome as there are several lovely cats at Claude’s place 

Great place to experience Palawan!”

Wonderful hosts, affordable, great value!

Spent 3 days at the Mangrove Resort. The owners, Claude and Marichu, are wonderful hosts. They couldn't do enough for us. They organized day trips (fishing with the locals and guided hikes to the waterfalls). The meals they prepared were wonderful and offered us a chance to enjoy the area fish (dorado and barracuda) and local vegetables. In staying at the Mangrove Resort, I had an opportunity to experience the "real" Palawan... and I can't say enough about the hosts, Claude and Marichu. They are wonderful people.

Beautiful place for relaxing in nature ”

The mangrove resort is a truly beautiful place, small cabins in an amazing huge garden next to the river and also the sea is just a short walk away. The owners are so much fun and if you need company, you will enjoy great conversations. I would already come back for the delicious food, best and fresh ingrediences, home cooked. If you are looking for a break from el nido or palawan, I highly recommend the Mangrove Resort. Oh, and you better are ok with cats, the owners have many but the kitties stay in the main house so they won't disturbe you at all.

Comfortable stay on a tranquil river”

Paddling up the river in the resort's canoe is incredible. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Exploring the fishing village was interesting.

We had a fantastic 3 night stay at Mangrove Resort. It is not the place to go if you are expecting 5 star hotel service or luxury. If you are interested in nature and getting some insight as to how the local fishing communities live in Palawan then this is the place for you. The resort is right on the river. You can paddle for hours up the river and it is truly beautiful. Just 5min on a bike (freely available to guests) or 5 min by canoe and you are on the beach. The resort offers guided activities, such as fishing with the locals, and hikes to waterfalls.

Superb ”

Staff, Food, Surroundings

Mangrove resort is the perfect spot to escape from our daily life in the city and enter a whole new level of nature related holidays. The surrounding landscapes are breathtaking and the whole place inspires peace, calm and relaxation. The bungalows are adorable and the facilities are quite tide and clean. The tours are awesome, putting you in direct contact with Palawan´s wonders, digging into the culture and locals of this island. We took a boat tour to natural and wild beaches and we were able to snorkel also. The next day we took the 3 falls trekking tour, 4 hours into the forest with superb stops on 3 waterfalls. The food was very fresh and delicious, made in a wood burning stove. Very gentle and adorable staff. Claude gave us very useful tips for the rest of our trip and the girls made our night-out memorable with a karaoke competition on the village´s bar. Definitely a place to be, stay and come back!

Peace&Love”

Quiet, peaceful, away from city

Staying at Mangrove resort is a very nice experience. If you are looking for bars, restaurants, animation, crowded cities, stay away, because it's 80 km from PP. If you wish to have a peaceful stay and get a chance to see the "real" Philippines, then you're at the right place. Claude the owner will welcome you in his guesthouse and do his best to organize your trips, if it's about kayaking in the mangrove, discovering hidden waterfalls...very authentic! Food is great as well, the cook is very good and will let you try again the real Philippines food (the native chicken is a must, to us). We will definitely come back to visit Claude for our next trip in Palawan.

Palawan hidden gem ”

When you go to Palawan, you usually seek for places not crowded, near the sea, where nature is beautiful and wild (jungle!), with great food and with a relaxed atmosphere. Mangrove Resort has all of that, and even more: the staff is very very friendly (hi all!), you have access to a beautiful river, Claude the owner would let you use his bikes, boats or snorkeling gears for free. Also people from the fishing village (langogan) are very welcoming. We ended up playing a basket ball game with locals in the village or singing in a karaoke with the staff! Also we had such an amazing time, going fishing flying fishes with locals, eating the fishes and drinking on the beach. Our best experience in Philippines, recommended for nature lovers and for getting away from the crowd! def wort it!

“Lovely place and hospitality””

Quiet surroundings,Friendly staff and Good food

I really enjoyed my stay at the Mangrove Resort. The staff is wonderful. The place is comfortable and absolutely not touristic. Claude and his wife were the best hosts ever! I traveled alone and it's the perfect place to relax while discovering the local fauna and flora through the mangrove's wildlife and the Langogan's village. I went on a day trip snorkelling, fishing with people from the village, eating our fish on the beach and a cruise on the river.I am now looking forward to come back and enjoy the activities and sightseeing Palawan has to offer! One thing I must say "They really cooked Great food for the guests". Thanks to the host and all staff there that make amy stay a Great One!

The best host ever!”

The staff, flora and fauna

My family and I loved staying at the Mangrove. We were on our way to El Nido and decided to stop for a night at Langogan, which is 82Km from Puerto Princesa and 200Kms from El Nido. Our luggage didn't arrive from Manila, and Claude (the owner) was waiting for us at the airport and immediately help us and found a solution to have our bags delivered to our Hotel the next day. We were very impressed with his help and sense of organization. Despite the electricity blackout the night we arrived, Claude and his wife, made sure that we had a good stay. The Hotel is surrounded by beautiful nature, there is plenty of flora and fauna to discover, a beautiful fishing village as well as a very nice beach not far form the hotel.

Little Langogan Paradise”

Claude and Maricho are great owners and hosts. They make you feel at home and make sure that your needs (wants) are satisfied. I stayed there with my family and we had a blast. You will definitely learn a thing or two about nature from Claude. This is not your typical touristy Palawan resort. Though all Puerto Princesa's touristy spots are reachable, they offer hiking to beautiful water falls, fishing trips, boating along Langogan river and snorkeling secret coral reefs and swimming in open water and beaches. I love this place for the serenity, quietness and relaxing atmosphere. This is due to the way Claude and Maricho runs the place. No set menus and food is always fresh. Greens comes from their garden and seafoods are from catch of the day from the local fisherman. You can pretty much order anything you like as long as it's available and will be surprised on how inexpensive they charge! Definitely will stay again at this place This place is recommended for people who wants to relax and experience Palawan living. Thanks, Claude and Maricho for a wonderful vacation. Hope to see you soon! The Casino family
