Manhattan Hotel ”
Manhattan Hotel Bangkok 30 / 8 to 6/9/2011 we arrived from Manila, my wife is the Philippines after midnight there were no problems with check-in and baggage with Sevice was good the staff was pleasant and perhaps a little too friendly for a Swedish. The room was large and kept eurpastandard with large double bed, telephone TV with remote, fridge with free water and the usual price list, equipment for tea and instant coffee a safety cabinet. Bathroom with bath and shower tidy and clean the room was cleaned wolf days. Breakfast was very well organized and did nothing, the coffee was excellent and the service there. Internet access with printer three statins for a small fee per hour. Located on a small side street 100 meters to the big shopping street with street sales of less than 500m to the Skytrain stations that can rekomderas, it is the fastest way to get around, taxis available outside the hotel, if we are to take something negative, it is that they allow taxi drivers to ask for twice as much for a journey towards the cost of a meter but it is a common system. When in BKK, location is everything ”
the manhattan hotel is located on sukumvit, soi 15, just a few minutes walk from the nana station sky train. taxis are everywhere if you would rather take a cab. you can get anywhere in bangkok easily from this location. as far as the area goes, it's good and just far away enough from the riff raff of lower sukumvit. the hotel is fine, rooms normal, kept clean, quiet, safe, good check in and out service and a pretty good free breakfast of just about what ever you want. there's a 7-11 just outside and a very good open air old style roast duck/pork restaurant on the corner that has been there for at least 50 years. nothing fancy about this old time eatery, just good food and cold beer. price wise, the manhattan @ around us 40.00 or so is very good value for what you get. you can probably find some cheaper hotels (mostly dumps) around this area but but not a better hotel in this price range. the hotel allows for leaving part of your luggage (storage)if you are traveling around thailand and don't want to take everything with you on the side trips. i found the best prices for this hotel online have a good trip! bambooking, usa
A Rare Gem”
The Manhattan had been my favorite hotel in Bangkok for a number of years but it had gone downhill with cutbacks in lots of areas. But the Manhattan is back! A bit on the old side, it has been totally spruced up and is looking even better than before. You can't beat the location within an easy walk of both the Asoke Skytrain station and the Sukhumvit MRT station. There are lots of services and shops nearby. You can have a good experience of Bangkok here. And did I mention the staff? They're all very helpful from the doorman and bellboy to the reception and dining room folks. It would be hard to go wrong staying at The Manhattan these days.
I enjoyed my stay at the Manhattan Hotel in Bangkok last November 2-3, 2010. At first, I was intrigued why the hotel was named "Manhattan". I just read in the hotel's brochure that the hotel is already quite old (it didn't seem that old to me) and was named as so because of the good experience of the hotel's founders in New York. The best thing about Manhattan Hotel is its strategic location within the heart of Sukhumvit area, Bangkok's commercial district. The hotel is just a walking distance from shopping malls, sidewalk shops, street food stalls, and the elevated monorail station. I've been to Bangkok several times but have stayed in other hotels. While other hotels may be better in terms of amenities, Manhattan Hotel tops my list when it comes to its strategic location. This is especially important if you are just staying in Bangkok for a night (on transit on my way home) and you would really like to maximize your stay in the city. The room rates of Manhattan Hotel are also relatively cheap. I thought that the hotel is just a rundown inn because of its cheap rates but I was surprised when I arrived Manhattan Hotel and realized that this is a real hotel! Again, if you're staying for just a night or a few days, why bother to stay in a hotel with so much amenities when you cannot really use it as you tend to go outside the whole day to tour and shop.
Excellent Value, Excellent Location”
I would recommend the Manhattan to a anyone staying in Bangkok who is looking for a clean room, with friendly staff and excellent value for their money. All the malls, markets, restaurants, and other attractions were either walking distance or a short ride on the sky train or subway. I would try to avoid taxis in general, they usually quote you about twice what you should pay and the traffic is usually terrible in and around Bangkok, it might seem more convenient to take a taxi, but you end up stuck in traffic forever. Having said that, at this time taxis are the only method to and from the airport, so leave about one hour to get to the airport. They have a travel agency in the lobby but we think that they may have been over priced, apparently they pay huge rents to the hotel to sit in their spot, as always, shop around for your tours. We saw the tigers in Kanchanaburi, very nice, and visited the floating market, very unique experience. We also saw the show at the Thai cultural center which cost us 1200 Baht, we thoroughly enjoyed the show and we were surprised with the sophistication of the production and the special effects. Internet was cheapest and most conveniently accessible in the building across from McDonalds, above Starbucks, 1 Baht per minute. Go to MBK for great deals on clothes, it's like a night market in a mall. Siam Paragon is more expensive, but nicer shops and food court, recommend seeing both malls if you enjoy shopping.
Manhattan - the center of Bangkok”
All guide books recommend us to find the hotel near metro station, cause of terrible traffic jam. According of this condition I choosed Manhattan hotel which is only 2 minutes away from skytrain station Asoke. It is really great place: there are big night market and some shops around (but shops aren't the best, compare with other which you can find in Bangkok). What I like in the hotel: its clean big room, simple and comfortable at the same time. You know, I am crazy espesially in bathroom cleaning, but thanks God in Manhattan hotel I was satisfied. What I really don't like: the employees (except of receptionist) don't know English. 10 minutes i tried to explain: my Internet card is expired and i want to extend .. They didn't understand me. I compaire with cambodia, where almost all staff of hotels speak english.. i was surprised in a bad way! But of course more important what in this hotel you feel yourself comfortable. So i think it is brilliant option for 1-3 nights in Bangkok.
I enjoyed my stay at The Manhattan very much . They are very helpful , it's hard to open a door or push an evevator button on your own . The breafast buffet had a wide range of dishes or you could walk to Sukhumvit and eat from the street vendors if you want . I myself , always made a trip across Sukhumvit to the man that sells Chinese Doughnuts on the corner and walk down the road munching on them while they were still warm . The room was large an clean . the housekeepers work very hard at keeping it that way . The only problem I had was I needed to call the US and the desk staff said they had no way of doing it , later I found a book in the hotel room that said they had IDD phones , so the call shouldn't have been a problem . I never tried the Korean restaurant in the hotel , but did have some soup and cold beer at the seafood one . The soup was good , I was the only one there so I got personalized service . They have a desk to book tours , I booked mine at the agency across the street because I've always found that to be more cost effective . The only other problem I had was the luggage and suit salesmen trying to get you into their shops on Soi 15 between the hotel and Sukhumvit . When you tried to keep going and ignore them , they would yell insults at you as you walk away . But overall my stay was good and I would stay there again .
Excellent 'city' hotel”
For the last decade I have transited through Bangkok five or more times a year and whenever it has been necessary to overnight in the city I have invariably chosen to stay at the Manhattan. It is an hotel which is a model of functionality - it has everything you need and does not clutter your room with things you do not need and everything is immediately recognisable and usable for what it is - you do not have to puzzle out how to use the shower for example. Over the years the hotel has continually updated and upgraded its provision and amenities. The rooms are good, the breakfast is more than adequate without being exceptional and the staff are wonderful - welcoming, friendly and attentive. The hotel is also ideally located giving almost immediate access to both mass transit systems. My only complaint concerns the eggs! One expects an hotel of this quality to have an 'egg station'at breakfast time. The Manhattan does not and presents its guests in the morning with a heap of tepid, half cooked fried eggs - yuk!!
A good quality hotel for a bargain price”
the manhattan hotel was built in the 60’s and would have been a standout when it opened. it has aged since but still has an old style charm about it. it is in a great location off sukhumvit road with easy access from the mrt metro train system. we got the train from the victory monument to nana station and found the hotel very easily. the rooms were a good size and breakfast was included in the price. the breakfast has the typical range of selections and was quite good. i recommend this hotel for anyone that is on a tight budget to consider this hotel if they are staying in the sukhumbit area for a few days.
Very good hotel - Manhattan, BKK”
I stayed at Manhattan hotel for 1 night on the way back from a neighbouring country. The booking was made thru Agoda. The rates were very affordable for this downdown BKK property. The hotel is centrally located. Half a minute walk to massage parlour. Restaurant is right on the corner. (Tom Yum soup and beef stew were delicious!) Shopping centre and underground station are very near. The atmosphere around is enjoyable! The hotel room is clean and spacy, king-size bed is really huge and comfortable, aircon works well, in-room safe can accommodate a lot of valuables, even a big bag. The bathroom has typical NY design; shower and tub are equipped exactly like on Manhattan, so the hotel fully justifies its name. No any cockroaches. 2 complimentary bottles of drinking water were supplied daily. Helpful and polite staff. Hot (buffet) breakfast includes variety of dishes, a choice of fruits, decent coffee, etc. Taxi desk at the hotel front door provides service to the airport at 700 baht, all fees & charges included. I came 10 minutes before the booked time and the driver was waiting for me. Travel time from the hotel to Suvarnabhumi airport is 45 minutes, even on busy Fridays.
My First Choice of Bangkok Hotels”
The Manhattan has been my home away from home in Bangkok. Although I have had to stay at other hotels in the Sukhumvit area because I booked too late, I always come back to the Manhattan because its such a much better value than all the others I have tried. The location is great - right around the corner from a Skytrain station, near shopping, lots or restaurants, and nightlife. I have friends who come to Thailand for vacation and spend the whole week at the Manhattan. It is that good.
Christmas at Manhattan”
Manhattan Hotel is well situated for getting around Bangkok, it is near public transport and taxis can be hailed from outside the main door or from the taxi desk. The staff are unfailingly helpful, smiling and look very smart in their Thai dresses and uniforms. On our return visit our room was not ready for occupation and the Bus Boy immediately went back to the desk and got us another room and took all our luggage to the new room without us asking or moving from the room. We enjoyed the splendid Christmas Eve Buffet Dinner laid on by the hotel and the colorful presents that we were given. The Thai dancing was a lovely bonus which we much enjoyed. We stayed for a total of 10 days over our two visits and were sorry to leave a hotel where we had enjoyed such a lovely first visit to Thailand.
Best Ever Stay in Bangkok”
I can say with all confidence that this was one of the best hotels I ever stayed in Bangkok. Hotel staff is very courteous and professional. The room I was and spacious. If you are a food lover this hotel has the best breakfast. This hotel didn't give me any reason to say any negative thing about it. I enjoyed my stay at Manhattan Hotel and I will highly recommend this hotel to others. You can't beat the price and facilities anywhere else in Bangkok.
Up to the Mark”
Stay: From 24-31 March 2009 The Manhattan calls itself "The Little Giant" and for a fairly small hotel, it does live up to this assertion. It is very good value for money, especially when discounted as it is currently on Agoda.com. During my recent 7-day stay, it was only about 50% full, a reflection of the current world econdmic downturn. At breakfast, if you want an omlette or your eggs prepared in a special way, all you have to do is ask, but ask you must otherwise you won't be aware that this is possible. Avoid the waiting taxis just outside and ask the bell man to hail you one from the street or hail one yourself. You're only a few steps from Sukhumvit Avenue where taxis abound. If heading to the airport and you don't have too much baggage to handle yourself, walk to Sukhumvit and cross over to catch a taxi. You'll save time and money that way. This place is hard to beat for the reasonable price.
wonderful hotel, great location”
the amazing thing about the manhattan hotel is that everyone who works there has a smile on their face. from the bellman, to the front desk manager, to the housekeeping staff, everyone has a "yim suwai" ( thai for 'big smile' ). this is the third time i've stayed at this hotel, and when my taxi pulled up to the hotel's entrance, the doorman opened my door, recognized me, and shouted "welcome big boss". now i'm not a 'big boss' anywhere, but it was wonderful to have such a warm welcome. the staff is very accommodating, in that the housekeeping gives me extra towels, or extra bottles of drinking water, or extra toilet paper any time i ask. and they are surprised, and shocked if i want to tip them 20 baht (70 cents). always quick to respond to my requests, it is a joy to stay at this hotel. i recommend staying at the manhattan hotel for any traveler interested in a clean, well run, well located hotel in the heart of one of the most exciting cities on earth.
Staying at the Manhattan”
The Manhattan's best feature is its location, which is a short 5 minute walk from the BTS (Sky Train) Station so that you can move around the city quickly, especially going to the Emporium which is only one station away. The Manhattan is one of the few remaining hotels in the Sukhumvit area in the middle range for travellers who want to stay in a comfortable hotel but do not want to pay the rates required at 4 and 5 star hotels. With the proliferation of the high star hotels and the disappearance of middle range hotels like the Manhattan, it is getting more and more difficult for budget minded travellers who don't want to go the extremely low level of service of guest houses in the Bang Lampu area but who also don't want to the pay the exorbitant rates at the chain hotels. The Manhattan offers reliably good service and is in a prize location.
Manhattan Hotel Bangkok with my Fiance”
The Manhattan hotel in Bangkok was close to all transport facilities, It was well recognised by all taxi's and tuk tuk drivers. Once we arrived at the main bus terminal in Bangkok it was only a 10 minute drive to the Hotel. It was located off the main rd and had a great drive through entrance. It was tucked away just off the main road and there was minimal noise and sleeping was pleasant. The rooms were comfortable in design and had great ammenities. Airconditioning worked great and had pleanty of movie chanels to watch after a long day out. The hotel was always clean and had internet access at a cost.
Clean and comfortable hotel”
We had stayed at the Manhattan Hotel on arrival in Bangkok for two days and decided to go back there as we had one spare day with no accommodation. The staff welcomed us back with open arms, recognised us on arrival and made us very welcome. The rooms are clean and comfortable and breakfast substantial for the price. (Very reasonable). Very close to most touristy things and the sky train. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again if ever we go back to Bangkok.
A Recommended Hotel”
Manhattan hotel has a very good location. It just takes a five minutes walk from the hotel to the train stations. The trains are your access to the major places in Bangkok such as Chatuchak, MBK and Jim Thompson's House. In addition, their staff are courteous and helpful. They will give you traveling tips and directions on how to go to places. You can also ask them to book you for a Thai massage in your room. I will recommend this hotel with my friends and family who will be visiting to Bangkok.
Excellent hotel at perfect location”
We have stayed at Manhattan Hotel for many years and noticed their constantly high level of customers service. The hotel is only 50 meters from Sukhumvit Road, but it is absolutely quiet. The location is ideal for shopping, transportation and entertainment. Rooms are big and clean. Days start with a large tasty breakfast-buffet. We enjoyed the very personal and friendly service by the hotel personnel. We can recommend this hotel to guests looking for a quiet place.
