Bad experience... ”
A big NO to this guest house. I prebooked a Family Suites online and they required RM50 for deposit upon check-in. The room type also had been changed without inform before. We were not best pleased when the deposit was forfeited during check-out. It was charged against the additional kid (5 years old) who stayed in and I want to declared here that the towel and blankets given only four persons, not five persons! How could the owner asked extra charges for my additional kid? Anyway, finally the deposit successfully returned with the help of OYO's management. Nevertheless, I didn't see any repentant attitude from the owner, he just pass the buck and pointed the fingers at others.Really felt very disappointed with his services. Poor communication created a lot of confusion. No meals and facility (swimming pool) were available as promised. The main entrance was locked after the host found all the guests were already back to guest house and it had seriously affected our schedule and planning ( laundry activities). I just can't imagine what will happen to all the guest if breaking out of fire? Will we trapped in the burning hotel? And what makes me feel angry the most is the lighting was dim along the corridor and turned off at all times causing my kids gaining a phobia of not answering the call of nature at night and me too hit the table accidentally caused of the darkest surrounding. We even afraid to go to toilet at the midnight just because of that reason! Feel very tension when the owner sitting in the reception. The most ridiculous thing was the owner, himself, could do spot-checks on us as he liked just want to check either we switched off the air conditioner. My daughter who was sleeping in the room had been shocked of his behavior. He had definitely trespassed our privacy and we really felt insecure staying here. It is absolutely an unrecommended guest house to stay!

Hi, we never want any of our guests to face this kind of problem. Since we understand the kind of hassle faced by our guests, we are apologetic. We have shared this with our team to take the appropriate steps to ensure that it does not happen again. Regards, Amelia.
Great value for your money!”
we stayed 2 nights at marco polo's guesthouse and were very happy with our time here. although the furnishings in the rooms are a bit sparse and humble, considering the price you get a lot for your money. the beds are comfortable and the wifi worked well throughout the building. everything was very clean, and we witnessed the staff keeping the bathrooms spotless each day, which always gives peace of mind when shared facilities are in use. many places claim to offer breakfast in the morning and then serve up nothing more than bread & jam, but mp really delivered on that front too: yes there was bread & jam, but also eggs & biscuits one day, and a traditional malay noodle dish the next. we were able to really fuel up for our epic days of sightseeing! the location is one of the two best places to be in kuching - it's about a 10 minute walk to the waterfront area, which is probably the only other place you'd want to stay while in kuching, but the walk is very pleasant. many little shops & restaurants line the charming streets, which gives you plenty of dining options, and you're within in easy walking distance of all kuching's main city sights. while the waterfront area might be a tad nicer than this part of town, we were happy with mp's location. best of all was the service we received here. the staff were so friendly and welcoming, and made sure when we first arrived that we had a good map and took the time to point out all the important sights, and even talked us through taking buses to some of the more remote attractions. they also had good recommendations for restaurants, and the owner's brother actually drove us to the airport on the day of our departure. we really felt like we were part of a happy family while we stayed at mp, so while it's certainly more informal and basic than a hotel, we would happily stay there on our next trip to kuching!

BEST GUEST HOUSE I'VE EXPERIENCED!!!!!!”
Marco Polo's Guest House exceeded my expectations on every level! For the money I've paid I was expecting something MUCH MORE BASIC! The whole place felt like home. Actually it was even cleaner than my home and I do care about these things! Georgette and Samuel really know how to run their business. They welcomed me with "opened hands", they knew that I was coming (booking done on-line) check-in process went very smoothly as Sam was entertaining me with a pleasent chat while Georgette was completing her formalities. I stayed in a dorm which looked like a room which you wish to arrange for family: clean, cosy, a lot of fans (I went for non a/c option). There was a fantastic balcony/kitchen area where every morning a delicious breakfast (included in the price!!!) was served and where I could chill out after sightseeing. I was even invited to have lunch with them after arrival just out of pure kindness!!!! When I went to see Bako National Park and stayed there ovrnight I was able to leave my big backpack in Marco Polo's free of charge and collect it afterwards. I have visited many different places during my travels, this one is way on top of all of them! If you're coming to Kuching YOU HAVE TO STAY IN MARCO POLO'S!!! SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!

Probably the best in Kuching”
Stayed with Marco Polo mixed dorm for 4 nights and then returned for another night before I flew out from Kuching. Have to say it is one of the best value for money guesthouses I have ever stayed. Good location (10mins walk to waterfront/main bazaar/carpenter street, located near the main gate cat statue of Jalan Padungan, 5mins away from the legendary Noodle Descendent), clean and comfortable bed, very friendly guesthouse owner Sam & Georgette, strong wifi, delicious breakfast: toast, pancake/cupcake, fruits, coffee tea. Sometimes I regret eating too much in Marco Polo's ended up not having space in my stomach for Sarawak Laksa which is only available in the morning. Sam & Georgette also give you the best info for food and sightseeing places. Make sure you ask where they usually have their meals for the best recommendations! They also give each guest a comprehensive list of point of interest near Kuching with the public bus number / telephone / address which is very useful. Will choose here again if I am back in Kuching.

So Good I Returned for Seconds”
Upon arrival at the marco Polo's Guest House, I knew I had found something special as Mme. Bong greeted me so warmly. I enjoyed my stay so much so that I returned for a second stay. All of the folks here go out of their way to help visitors make the most of their time. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to have some wonderful conversations and my stay at the Marco Polo Guesthouse was a highlight of my time in Kuching. Although the location is a 15 minute walk from old CBD, it is in fact that walk through the hustle and bustle of the many Chinese owned shops that makes it a special location just minutes from restaurants and bars. Having stayed down at the Waterfront Hotel, I can tell you that this is THE place to stay in Kuching for those looking for a genuine people experience.

Amazing place to stay!!!”
I cannot say how much we LOVED our stay here. For us it was definitely a perfect spot. The owners and staff are wonderful and nice. The place is clean, secure and well run. Breakfast is better than the average breakfast. The wifi was great! And they have two modems now so wifi will reach anywhere you are in guesthouse. Attention to detail like always making sure tp in bathrooms. Hot water. We work on our own projects a lot, so this was a great place to reprieve for a while and was the type of place I could have stayed at much longer. Also can store luggage if coming and going from Kuching. The location wasn't a bother to us, we didn't mind the short walk to get to the waterfront/downtown area. Overall, thank you Marco Polo's for all your hard work and the wonderful stay!!!

Wonderful stay”
We spent twice three nights at Marco Polo's Guest House and we loved it. Located 20 minutes by feet from downtown in a really nice neighborhood (new Chinatown), the guesthouse is really cute: a nice balcony (full of plants) with kitchen, one big common room, very clean (hot) showers and toilets, very quiet bedrooms with comfortable bed (dorm or private). WiFi, laundry, drinks, kitchen and even a computer are available. Sam, Jane and Druv will do all what they can to make your stay comfortable and interesting. Very helpful, they can also arrange you taxi, tours, or just give you tips about things to see in or around Kuching (or invite you to go for some beers ;-)) and we had many interesting discussions with them. They make you feel being part of their family. For everyone looking for a clean, affordable, welcoming guesthouse with great owners and many other independent world travellers to hook up with, we recommend highly this guesthouse!

Friendly Atmosphere, Comfortable and Clean Rooms”
My girlfriend and I spent a week in and out of Marco Polo's Guest House. The staff are friendly and the hosts have excellent English and are very informative. Hearing the history of Kuching really added to the trip. They have an excellent veranda style dining area where you can enjoy a delicious breakfast every morning. They also have a comfortable homely lounge area with comfy sofas, books and a television. The room was spotless, aircon was good and the wifi was fast. I enjoyed the location as there was a number of tasty dining spots and it was only a 15/20 min walk to the waterfront. Do yourself a favour and stay here.

One of the best parts of my trip to Kuching :)”
My trip to Kuching itself was pretty awesome but staying in Marco Polo definitely completed the entire experience. I was abit nervous when I first saw the hostel from the front because it looked like a tiny little space on the top floor of the shophouse and we had to go in by the back door. However, upon entering the place, I was pleasantly surprised when the host (I did not get his name!) greeted us and checked us in warmly. We proceeded to our room which was in the neighbouring space and everything that I saw was pleasing to the eye. The toilets were very clean and spacious, the little kitchen cum dining area looked very neat, the corridors were very elegantly decorated but the best part was when I opened the sliding door to our room and saw it for the first time. It was wayyyy above my expectations for the price that I paid per night! The room was comfortably spacious, with a clothes rack, a safe metal cupboard and a little desk. The bed was a huge king size one decked out with a bright and cheery bedsheet and the floor was carpeted. There were also towels provided FOC which I did not expect because this is a hostel after all. The showers had great hot water which is always a plus after a day outdoors in the tropical heat. It was spacious and clean. There were also reading areas which were well-stocked with books and a TV lounge area. There was also a computer with free internet access. During our 5 days there, I always looked forward to returning to Marco Polo because it was like a home away from home. I would return to stay here in a heartbeat should I ever visit Kuching again.

Home Away from Home”
We had a wonderful experience at Marco Polos. Picked up from the airport (for a small fee), we were greeted as if we were family. The couple that runs the B&B are absolutely lovely, and make sure that you are always taken care of. A homemade breakfast is served every morning, and fresh fruits throughout the day. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and there is a nice community-feel to the accommodation. With regard to location, Marco Polo's is in walking distance to the waterfront as well as an array of restaurants and bars around Kuching. We absolutely enjoyed our stay here, and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a personal and welcoming experience.

Great for independent travelers”
Great location on the edge of old town, in the midst of eateries, cafes, laundry places. The owners could not have been more helpful or friendly. They embody the best of Sarawakian hospitality, will try to match you up with other guests doing the same activities, and always willing to share their personal experiences as Kuching-ites and Malaysians. I will happily go back to Marco Polo's on my next trip to Kuching.

Great Breakfast Choice = Good Value !”
Marco Polo is located in the 'new' Chinatown section of Kuching, at the western end of Jalan Pedungan, right near one of the several large cat statues. The staff, elder parents and a young-adult son, are very friendly and helpful, all speaking very good English! They are readily available to assist with directions and travel information, be it for local bus or mini-van transportation, or to out-lying Markets or National Parks, or transport to another city. Near-by are many food vendors, as well as souvenir shops, noodle shops, guesthouses, cafes, and some bars. The rooms are of a good size, many sharing an entire wall-with-windows with a hallway, which can be noisy with others passing back and forth. There are three areas for gathering: one with the TV, one a sitting room, and the third is the balcony-breakfast-eating area, which is also, the smoking area !! That is one unfortunate aspect of MarcoPolo: the outside balcony, where the WiFi is best, has to be shared with smokers. oh well ! Within walking distance near-by are Vegetarian restos, an Organic Food store (New Health Organic), many food courts, and several fruit or flower vendors. Real Massage Studios, as well as Cinemas and large Grocery stores are within walking distance. Kuching is an easy city to be in: many folk speak or understand English, it has clean and well-groomed and landscaped walkways, relatively clean air, and just 'normal' traffic congestion, compared with other cities. There are quite a few National Parks worth visiting while staying in Kuching. I do recommend Marco Polo for travellers-- they really do offer more than the 'normal' bread (toast) and jam for breakfast, and it changes each day !

Home away from home”
I booked a single room and got spacious double room. Excellent breakfast; usually in budget hotels or guesthouses in Malaysia breakfast includes only a toast with jam (or a pancake) but in Marco Polo's you also get nasi goreng or other real food. Plenty of other travellers to meet during breakfast. Very nice and helpful hosts, you can chat with them a lot. You can leave your backpack or luggage there when you stay in another place, e.g. in Bako NP. There are many good and inexpensive restaurants in the Padungan Rd. The place is clean, safe, comfortable and highly recommended. I would stay there again.

Outstanding. Just like my family ”
What can I say about Sam and Georgette. These two are some of the kindest people I have ever met in South East Asia period. When I got to Borneo I booked for 2 nights with the view of extending. Not only did I extend but I extended for 5 nights. There is nothing Sam and Georgette won't do for you. Sam is a wealth of knowledge. One night a friend I met in my room and I were talking about our love for spicy food. Next thing we're off in Sam's car to his favourite Indian restaurant. He had stopped what he was doing to take us for a meal. My flight was at 6am leaving and I had to leave the hostel at 4am. Not only did Georgette get up to see me off she had layed out breakfast for me. Read that again. At 4am! I enjoyed eating durian and have fond memories of eating durian With Sam, Georgette and William a local tour guide (also HIGHLY recommended) I am planning to go back next year for the rain forest music festival and Borneo Jazz and will spend both times that I am in Kuching at Marco Polo Guest house.

We extended our stay as we loved this place so much! Marco Polo's is situated about a 10 minute walk away from the centre and it i a lovely walk down to the main river front. The team that run the place treat you like family and really do an amazing job in bonding all the people who stay there together. The rooms and big ans spacious and very clean. You are greeted each morning with a basic but substantial breakfast. They are more than happy to advise you and help you with onward travel and also the things to do in and around town. We cant that the hosts enough for making us feel so welcome and also looking after us!

Lovely hotel and service with a smile”
Do not get confused with its name. It is not the luxury hotel. However, this is the best guesthouse we stayed during our 15-day Malaysia trip!! It is operated by a local family. They are very helpful whenever you need any assistance. It is strongly recommended for budget travelers. When we checked out, the lady even gave us a small gift!! We love Marco Polo's Guest House!

Very good value for money”
we have stayed here for a total of 6 nights spread over 10 days and have enjoyed our stay very much. The owners and the on site manager are proud of the guesthouse and of the city and work hard to make your stay a good time. Their local knowledge has been invaluable in helping us to make the most of our time in Kuching. The bedroom and the toilet + shower are very clean which has not been true evrywhere we have stayed in this price range. The breakfasts have been excellent.
