    “Great stay!”

I had a great stay here for 4 nights while skiing at Shiga Kogen and touring Nagano. It is easy to take the public bus from the Yudanaka station to Shiga Kogen (about an hour) or to the snow monkeys (10 minutes). The town itself is great and has a public onsen behind the train station as well as a few Japanese restaurants to choose from and a Lawson convenience store for any basic necessities. Overall, the room was comfortable and clean and the staff were very helpful even though I did not speak any Japanese. If you are looking for a Japanese inn experience I would highly recommend Maruka Ryokan.

“The feeling of living at home, which is why we chose to spend the New Year here.”

I really like this Japanese hotel. My partner and I decided to stay here for the New Year. The tatami mats are very comfortable, and the room is warm. The grandparents are super gentle, and grandma even gave me oranges and apples. The oranges here are really very sweet.

The couple who have this ryokan, so nice, they give us some cake when we want going to Shiga Kogen. I love it, if I go to Yudanaka, i’ll come to Maruka Ryokan

    “Cute Place, better in season”

This is a time throwback. It's peaceful and actually was the best part of my trip to this area. Unfortunately if you're looking to explore Shibu Onsen you don't get key access to the onsen here. Out of season the information desk was closed so I ended up leaving early because I couldn't go to the onsen outside of the hotel. It was a shame because I really liked this place. If you're interested in experiencing traditional Japanese hospitality, in a very special corner of the town right by a temple, and don't mind antique furniture , carpets etc, this is a place for you. Like something from a book.

“A true traditional Japanese stay with incredible hosts”

If you're looking for an honest traditional Japanese ryokan, this place is great. The hosts are super nice, they speak limited English, I speak limited Japanese but they made all the efforts to try to communicate with us and they accommodated our requests. The room can get quite cold even with the heater on and going to the bathroom in the unheated halls was sometimes painful, but that's all the negatives. There's something magical about sitting in a fire hot onsen while looking out the window and seeing the snow falling on the lovely garden outside.
