The best place to stay on Samosir! ”

Very well located, a bit out of the city and you can rent a motorbike for cheap to hang around the island. The rooms have gorgeous views on the lake! Very comfortable furniture and clean. 2nd time for me staying there and will come back again!

    One of the best”

If you are looking for a place with middle-priced range with clean and new facilities, you can choose Mas Cottage. The staffs are helpful and friendly, they have a restaurant operating until 11pm facing Lake Toba where you can chill there with your friends. I stayed in a newly-renovated family room with kitchen. Hot water is available as well, which is very important because the temperature is low and it's really cold there. No fan and air conditioner as it is not needed. No mosquitoes found in the room. It also provided car rental services and boat service that pick you up right at the hotel.

    Pleasant stay. ”

This hotel is amazing. Just right next to Lake Toba, I use to sleep hearing the sound of water during the afternoon, so relaxing it was. The food is good here and reasonable priced so you don't have to go out for anything, the staff were helpful and decent. Nothing very fancy here, but I loved it because of the view of Lake Toba is amazing.

Serene and 5-star service attitude staff”

Special thanks to Alena and Genasari for going out of their way to help me when I was pickpocketed during my van transfer from Medan to Parapat. It is a 5-star service attitude, they used their break time to fetch me to ATM and post office to retrieve cash. Lena also used her break time to bring me to fantastic spots where local frequent, and she treats you as a friend and not a guest. Extremely grateful. Accommodation is spotlessly clean, highly suggest to opt for the traditional Batak house instead of the standard room which gives you a good view of the lake lying on your bed with the windows open.

    great people ”

Staff is friendly, view from the hotel, atmosphere

It was great. Food is fine, enough options. Staff really treat you well and makes you feel welcome. Great atmosphere in the nights with the staff singing batak songs with playing guitar. I really fell in love with one of the songs. :) They have a nice simple spirit about them. For me it felt familiar as I come from a similar place. All in all I had a great time. My apologies to the owners that in the morning rush to the ferry, I forgot to return my room keys :(

Peaceful stay away from the resorts”

If you are looking for coconut trees and a beautiful uninterrupted view over the lake away from the other resorts, then this place is for you. It's a peaceful place to relax and read a book or just generally chill out. The staff here are very friendly. The flip side is that it is a 40 minute walk to either side of town. So you'll definitely need to rent a motorbike if you want to visit the main town. On top of that, the motorbikes need to be returned by a certain time each day, which means getting to/from town in the evening can be tricky. If you're looking for a place to relax, away from the hustle and bustle (which is honestly the best of what Lake Toba has to offer), then this place is perfect.

    Awful Service”

I booked thru Online Travel Agent and the payment i have to pay at the property, i booked 2 days prior my arrival. The property personnel simply canceled my booking, yes the property send us an email to pay, but the email stated that we have to pay 1hours after receive the email thru Indonesia Local Bank, when we received the email we already on the way to the destination so we cant make it, when we arrive at the property nightmare happen when the rude personnel inform that they canceled our booking due to not receive any payment, the booking been cancelled even we come early on the arrival date. The staff offer us higher room category from our original booking. The location of this property quite far from other property, the location not really nice compare to most property there. The personnel not happy with our arrival, seen we disturb her watching, she bother to continue his TV Show other than show us the room we may rent. Its Awful, think million time before stay here.

    Very good”

We enjoyed our stay here overall. The staffs are very friendly. The views and food are very nice. The downfalls are: no wifi in the rooms, the hot water for shower only last for 10min and a lot of ants in the room we stayed. But we will still recommend it to people.

    Best in Samosir”

Best location in Samosir. You might not think so at first but if what you crave is peace, quiet, serenity and views to die for... this is the ONLY choice. Let's not fool ourselves... nothing on Samosir represents a luxury hotel. BRING YOUR OWN wine, (+ glasses), biscuits, snacks, shampoo, slippers etc. Food served in the restaurant is OK. Best stick to their very tasty breakfast noodles rather than expecting a full-on American job. Pancakes, omelettes etc also good. Local sweet milk coffee is fab. Order the milk on the side so you can sweeten to taste. Place can feel a bit remote if shopping is your thing and you can't ride one of their motor-scooter rentals. Bur after doing all that stuff, it was a treat to come "home" to Mas. Staff were nothing but charming and cheerful. A truly MEMORABLE stay with the wife and teenage "kids". Not for young families.

    Quiet location, great staff”

The superior room is quite big, but small things were necessary like a ceiling fan, and maybe a welcome bottle of drinking water. Everything else is extra: food, breakfast, water, but low price. I had to check my bill as there were item I didn't consume.. it had to be adjusted twice. Possibly because I changed rooms due to noisy guests. The staff were fantastic. Efficient, friendly and easy going. When my suitcase went missing in transit from Medan, Gilita organised it to be with me within 24 hours! Opposite to this for their direct transport booking to Medan. Very important for me. They kindly dropped me at ferry point, but when I arrived at Parapat was no-one to pick me up. I had to find the transport office with local transport. When I finally arrived. It was another 30 mins before the transport arrived. Then without warning I was unloaded at P Siantar.. with no information, then had to wait 2 hours for a slow bus to Medan. It took a horrible 7hours instead of 5. Not happy!!

    Not recommend to stay here”

I had a bad experience here. Booked hotel through Agoda, I didn't know they didn't take credit card. After few days, the hotel emailed me a message said if I dont bank in 50% of payment in 24 hrs, they will cancel my booking. I sent few emails to the hotel tried to talk to them about paying cash when i arrive or take credit card for booking, and I also asking for their bank code as required by my bank for oversea money transfer, but they didn't reply me at all. At last, I had to call Agoda center 3 times in continuous 3 days to asked for help. At the end they agreed to keep the room till I arrive to pay cash because they couldnot provide me their bank code.Bad service. Hotel is far form Tuk-tuk. Big family room but kitchen no cooking utensils except gas stove. How to cook? No hair shampoo. Rent motorbike from hotel Idr 120, 000 more expensive & owner didnot want to put full petrol only abit more than half even we talked to her, so ended up we have to pump petrol. She paid back later.

Great place to forget the world”

We had an absolutely wonderful experience. The suites all had lakefront access except some which were on the top of the hill. Some people might want an overview of the lake. The waters at Mas looked cleaner than those of the other cottages. Probably because it is more populated on the TukTuk town side (Mas is further away from the Tuktuk town). There isn't a pool here, because you already are in one. We had a wonderful experience except for that one hotel staff that can get a little irritable if you ask her a few too many questions. She also seemed to like caucasians more than asians.. I don't know, Could just be me. Otherwise 4.5/5!!

    A small paradise ”

What a lovely surprise Ma's cottages was. Three levels of accomadation , we stayed in a Batak house which is very basic but great for backpackers and as you are outside most of the time you only need to go in to sleep. Mattrice on the floor in the loft. There are two more types of accomadation . So it's up to you depending on what you are looking for. All are on the water except the big family one but what a view. The ferry drops you at the door. It is about a 25min stroll into TUKTUK or you can hire a motor bike from Ma's . I was worried it was out of town but the lake was so clean and there was no motor sports going on so very quiet and peaceful. The restaurant is 75 steps up and what a view! The food is great the staff are a joy too. I recommend this as a lovely stay, loved it will go back.

Next to the lake toba, offer nice food, cheap

It take a bit time to reach Mas Cottages from the port. Room that we stayed is right in front of the lake toba. It is very simple room, provided with simple amenities, so you can't expect too high to the room here, at least they have hot water. Bed are not that comfy but we still had nice sleep. Anyway their staffs are very nice, many food choices can be ordered from their kitchen. Not so expensive. In the morning, it was really refreshing to look at the lake view. Overall, it was still interesting experience to stay on the Samosir Island.
