very nice bungalow”

great beds, cozy, great location!

The location of the Matata is close to good restaurants and a short walk from the central street. At night, everything is silent and the bed is really comfortable so it is easy to get a good nights sleep. If you stay during the week, there is a school located directly next door that practices perpetual recess - be prepared for really noisy kids starting around 8am for the day. This isnt a problem if you plan to be sightseeing through the day, but if you like midday naps then bring ear plugs. On the weekends it is really quiet around the guest house. compared to the other places in luang prabang, this place tends to be more quiet because of its small distance to the main streets - very nice.

Fantastic bungalow”

Cozy bungalow, extremely comfortable bed, good location

Great stay overall if you book transportation from the guest house to somewhere (we were traveling to oudomxay) you might want get quotes from several other places to compare prices. We booked a mini bus (Note that a mini bus is NOT a minivan) tour to oudomxay for 100.000 kip / person thinking it is a mini van. The only english speaking staff member was not around, and so communication with the staff was difficult. We arrived at the bus station and our tuk tuk driver bought our two tickets for 60000 kip each and left. Our bus was so small that we could not fit in the seats and had to sit sideways with our legs in the aisle. The 80000 kip for the tuk tuk drive to the bus station was overpriced - You should be able to get a ride there for around 30000. It was a fun trip all around, but we felt a little ripped off booking through the hotel. Everything else at the hotel, from the beds to the breakfast, was worth the cost and was wonderful.

Great hideaway off the beaten path”

View. Location. Relaxing

A great place to stay that's off the main roads yet still very close to the night market and other sights in Luang Prabang. Unlimited free drinking water from the front desk. Friendly help. Stayed for 4 nights. Included breakfast is just an egg and some toast so maybe opt for breakfast elsewhere. Would recommend staying here

Decent dorm but more expensive then others in the area”

The dorm rooms at Matata are okay. The beds were comfortable enough and the linens are clean. The AC in our room didn't work and I was told that there wasn't anything they could do about it... The bathroom is ensuite, but has no window and the fan in our bathroom didn't work, meaning there was no air circulation. Staff was nice enough and spoke good enough English. No breakfast for dorm rooms. More expensive than other guesthouses in the area where you could get your own room, but at least the rooms were clean. Location is good. Close walk to Mt. Phousi, the night market, the old quarter, and bars.

Staff very helpful, convenient place and clean”

Location is good, a few minutes to walk to night market and utopia (bar). Bed is really comfy and clean. Staff is also very helpful in helping to book bus to Vang Vieng. However, at night can be quite noisy if there are people talking outside the guest house.

Heard horror stories about places in LP. This was clean, pleasant, a 10 minute walk from town. Wifi good. No break i.e. Rooms a bit tight. Bathroom needs more hooks shelves so TP does not get wet! Enjoyed. Would recommend.

Clean, quiet, everything works

I stayed in the dorm, that is a room with two sets of bunk-beds. The room has lockers that actually lock. The sheets were clean. The aircon works. The attached washroom is clean and the shower has no eccentricities. A little further down on the same road are some of the nicer restaurants and bars.In short, it was a fine place to stay.

Better quality elsewhere ”

The size of the room and space you get is ok, but ventilation and bathroom cleanliness can be improved. Room smells because of this. Dog lives on property. Noise level is not good, the owner and friends hang out and chat till late. Location is near to most popular bars Utopia, Red Bul, the Hive and all that, but not in the peninsula. Better room value from the price elsewhere. For tours better shop elsewhere.

Convenient, Worth the money paid and Awesome

I love my stay in this hostel and the bed (dorm) is so comfortable. The staffs are friendly and willing to help you! The dorms and toilets are clean on daily basis. The only downside of this hostel is that no water supply in certain period. I think this is due to the Laos water management system and not the hostel problem

Set up, the garden was lovely and how peaceful it was

My stay was nice. However, te staff seemed to be really confused between management and front desk. Prob due to the fact that there was a language barrier. The breakfast was cancelled but we got a refund. And the sink pipe in our bathroom was leaking and we requested them to look at it but they r do anything about it while we stayed there.

The most expensive guesthouse I've stayed in in Loas, but not worth the extra money! Thin matresses, not a two-star comfortvalue. They had a breakfastmenu, but were not able to serve any of the food during my stay. It wasn't a bad stay, but you can find far better options for half the money.
