The location is good and the place has been recently renovated. The breakfast is great and everything is clean. The service from all departments is excellent. We stayed in a premier twin room which was good, but we have a couple of suggestions for the hotel. Firstly, they should place two chairs in the room since most people don't want to sit on the bed after a day out. Secondly, there is only one mirror installed in the bathroom, so they should have another one outside. Other than that, we have no complaints.

We sipped on our Hanoi beers and listened to the busy world of Richard Scary alive below us. As the sun set through the haze, the sky seemed to explode into flames. Our expectations for May De Ville were pretty high and, like that sunset, they exploded in beautiful color. Every member of the customer facing staff were amazing and extremely helpful from arrival to the departure. When we were heading out we had ordered our ride through a service on Agoda and unfortunately weren't able to communicate with them when they called. The bellboy/doorman saw we were in a bit of a pickle and gave the driver a call back for us. He communicated for us and kept us in the loop and up to date. Totally unexpected. The rooms and showers were cozy. We enjoyed falling asleep watching Vietnamese television every night. Okay, the down sides. The room service cart was constantly right outside our door and would be very noisy early in the morning (like 4am). Very un-luxurious. Also, there was construction happening that started as early as 8am and continue most of the day. What I thought was someone having a beautiful love making session was going for far too long and made our mornings really uncomfortable.

There was a live cockroach in the room that was on its back struggling. The cleaner was able to come quickly to squash it before it flipped over and scurried away. No followup about the situation afterwards. Maybe this is a common thing in hotels in the old quarters, but haven't experienced that issue in any of the hotels I stayed at in Vietnam in my 3 week trip. The lobby and top floors (pool and restaurant) were very nice, but the room was dated. The bathroom had a nice shower, but the soap dispensers were a bit old and didn't pump fully. The bed was okay, pillows were nice and plush. The pool, although small, had a great view of the city. The water was cool which was great in the outdoors. The constant shade of the pool was also great for the kids as they could swim at all times of the day without worrying about the brutal UV. The gym had a big space but very few equipment. There was a treadmill and bike, along with dumbbells but only up to like 15kg. Definitely was a disappointment. Restaurant had a great view and very friendly staff, especially the guy serving at the noodle bar and cooking the eggs. Food was decent with okay variety. Parting gift of instant coffee was nice. Not sure if that was due to my average survey for them at checkout and mentioning the cockroach on it, or if it was for every guest. Overall, the lobby and top floors were 4 stars, but room was 2.5 stars. Would like to see the hotel beef up their gym, have cleaner rooms with pest treatment, and have more breakfast buffet variety.
