Clean and quiet room in center of lively Yangon”

Clean, airconditioned rooms in center of town

The hotel was in the middle of lively Yangon with markets, tea houses and temples just around the corner. The room was small but clean and it had airconditioning. The staff was very friendly and bustickets were available at the service desk.

    Great location and very accommodating”

    Helpful staff

this hotel is more of a guesthouse. if you like staying in big, impersonal, western-style hotels then this is not for you. each of the staff got to know me in their own way. they always were available for advice which was most helpful. the location by sule pagoda is easy to find and is at the end of many of the bus routes. breakfast was at the hotel. some great street restaurants about one block north on sule pagoda road: takafuji and suzuki. don't let the japanese sounding names fool you, they had great local cuisine.

Good location hotel with helpful and good service.”

    Good location

The hotel has a very good location right in town with walking distance to restaurants and shopping area, like Yangon Chinatown. Although the hotel is a little small with most rooms without windows, but the room as well as the pillows and blankets are well cleaned. The hotel staff is very helpful especially if you are travelling to Yangon for first time. She can arrange a good guide and car upon request. I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a proper hotel with reasonable price to stay in Yangon.

    Great place, great location”

    Location, staff, cost

This was a great little place. A good strong shower, great air conditioning, and smack bang in the middle of Yangon's downtown. We were not too worried about not having a window as we don't spend a lot of time in our hotels when we travel, so this was perfect.

Safe harbour in the midlle of central Yangon

Rooms are a bit dated, and we had no windows. Staff was helpful with bus tickets. Electricity shuts down every now and then, but that's Myanmar. Hotel's location is perfect, even Shwedagon Paya is just an half an hour walk away. Reception isn't 24h, we tried to get a room here when we came back from the north, but the gates were closed.

Good location, services and nice room

It is a cozy hotel. Nice room in a kind of Chinese style. Big toilet but no bathtub with hot shower. TV and air-con work very well. No window but quiet in the room. Wi-fi in the lobby. The most impressive about this hotel is great services. They have US dollar exchange on the counter and the manager(s) are very very helpful and nice. Willing to provide all kinds answers about the surrounding areas. Fully Recommended!

    reasonable price, clean and friendly.

great location right opposite sule pagoda. 5 min walking distance to scotts market. 15 min walk to china town they serve 2 pieces of toast, an egg (u have the option of fried, half boilded or omelet upon request) and 2 bananas. every morning stayed 2 nights, but the room was not cleaned on the 2nd. you will have to request for additional bottle of water. free wifi but only at the lobby. gets very slow if they are people serving on the computer provided at the lobby at Ks1000 per hour. helpful owners who can offer travel tips. overall a pleasant stay. oh, there is no window in the room. but it was ok, with aircon and water heater.

    Friendly owner and staff

Very good location just next to Sule Pagoda and most of the taxi driver know about this hotel. The room is basic but clean and now they are upgrading the room at top floor the new renovated room was look like 4 star hotel. It was a lift inside the hotel eventhough a bit small but it was good enough to carry all the guest to their room. Breakfast is very basic it will be good if have more variety however there are many tea shop arround the area who serve very good Shan Noodle.

    location, location, location

Second time I've booked here - probably for the last time. Don't get me wrong, the location is fantastic and the staff is really friendly, but for the amount of money they are charging one can get great hotels a little further abroad and just spend the extra-bucks on taxis. Rooms are clean but outdated. The one star fits perfectly, but that's it.

Close to Sule pagoda, City Center and good location.

We got Family with window room that can see Sule pagoda from the room. Room was standard but bath room too small and shower was damage. Wifi always unstable that it disconnect every 5 sec. too bad for Wifi. Breakfast which bananas, fried egg and bread so I think it not enough. Totally not value for money because expensive than themselves quality.

    Close to Sule Pagoda”

Location, Mohinga for breakfast, free wireless

Location is really great - in the old down town, a stone's throw from Sule Pagoda, round the corner from some great markets and a pleasant stroll from the park, and the Strand Hotel. Rooms are small but clean. Showers are hand held - which is not v convenient. Standard breakfast is bananas + white bread + fried egg, but they'll bring in Mohinga for you if you ask and that's a great start to the day! Wireless worked well. NB there are SINGLE rooms available at 1/3 less than doubles, but these do not appear on Agoda and are still rather overpriced at $40/night. Staff are helpful, but "business-like", and you'll get charged $5 for leaving a bag.

best location to roam around so far”

location, friendly & helpful staff, clean room

May Shan is undoubtedly in one of the best locations to roam around Yangon. Sule Pagoda and Mahabandoola Garden are 2mins walk. You can have photo op at the rooftop ang have those as your backdrop. It's 15mins walk to Chinatown and Bogyoke Aung San Market. When it comes to room, it's clean and comfortable. It's equipped w/ aircon, tv, T &B, and you can borrow hairdryer. That's all that matters. Don't expect a 5-star room. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Breakfast are super basic but enough to give you energy while touring the city

    Location, location, location”

    Location, friendly staff, free wifi

Went with a couple of friends on a weekend trip. This is small hotel but in downtown area. Literally, a stone throw away from Sule Pagoda. We got the windowless room since the 3 pax room were all taken. The upside for this is you don't here the chanting that other reviewers have posted. It was good enough for a 2 night stay. The top floors looks newer. The people were nice enough to call us a cab when we need one since you need to negotiate the price before you ride a cab. Better to have a local to negotiate for you so you don't get ripped off. We walked a lot from checking out the colonial buildings, to going to Chinatown (20 mins away), and to head to Bogyoke Aung San Market (15 mins away). For breakfast, we were served coffee/tea, toast with jam and butter, an egg and bananas. Don't forget to go to the rooftop. You can get a nice view of Sule Pagoda from there. We had a bit of fun posing for pics there. It would be even better if they placed some lounge chairs on the rooftop to let guest hangout there at night.

    Location, Reasonable Price, Friendly Staff

Basic but comfortable hotel. Everything was clean and the shower was great. There is a basic breakfast in the morning and it is easy to get around central Yangon from this hotel. It is right next to Sule Pagoda which makes using Taxis very easy as all drivers know this landmark.

    Awesome experience! ”

We were in the heart of a busy city yet putt was quiet. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Bathroom at May Shan worked better than higher costing hotel we stayed at.

We enjoyed our stay there, especially the location. I was scared about not having a window, but the way the room was layed out and mural tile on the wall, it was no problem. We didn't want to hang out in our room very much anyway. We will go there again!

Decent hotel in the very city center”

    Location, cleaness, friendly staff

Small, but perfectly clean rooms which are modestly equipped. Breakfast also modest. On Myanmar quite fast internet. Overall, I would stay there again with no doubt. If the hotel was anywhere else their pricing would not be competitive at all. But since it is in Myanmar, where hotels are extremely overpriced, May Shan hotel is a great choice, especially in this location.

Located next to Sule Pagoda within walking distance of downtown sights. Hotel was clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

May Shan Hotel is a clean, safe, inexpensive, centrally located hotel in Yangon. Staff is friendly and helpful. Rooms with windows are more expensive, but work the extra cost. Rooms without windows are fine, but feel stuffy. The location of this hotel across from Sule Pagoda and near the large market make it easy to walk to sights you want to see.

The service, the bed, the location

The staff welcomed us with open arms and helped us with everything! We got help to book accommodation in other parts of Myanmar and to find specific locations in Yangon. The breakfast was ok, nothing more. An egg, two toasts and some the/coffee. But it was a little to get you going at least and it is included which is great. We stayed here three times during our holiday in Myanmar. The rooms we stayed in the two first times didn't have any windows which was great as the traffic noise from outside was not as bad plus it was easy to sleep without any daylight. Aircon works perfect and the beds was very comfy! We had a great stay at May Shan and would definitely stay there again!
