In the heart of the Gothic Quarter, this extraordinary hotel was once the Palace of the Duke and Duchess of Medinaceli. The hotel’s privileged location ensures easy connections to museums, monuments, and the port. Surrounded by the Gothic Quarter, one of Barcelona’s unique neighborhoods, guests will get a glimpse of what the city was like in the past. With the dark, narrow streets and 14th century buildings, it was originally from this area that the city prospered and grew into the Barcelona of today. A perfect location along with a great service makes Medinaceli Hotel an excellent choice when traveling to Barcelona whether for business or leisure.
"We had a big room with side marina view."

We stayed here for 3 nights and had a wonderful experience. The hotel is at the end of La Rambla at a quiet enclave, facing a small park and adjacent to the sea. Our room faces a small park and I can see the sea from the balcony. The reception team are helpful to us in booking our cab and giving us directions. They also supplied me a kettle although they took a 15euro deposit which was refunded to me when I returned it. The hotel is close to La Rambla where there are many eateries. We have good breakfasts at Cuppucino and Via70 daily. Don’t miss the market there call La Boqueria. Off La Rambla, you can wonder into the old quarter and get lost into the alleys for great shopping! All the key attractions are also within walking distance!
Best Location ”
The location is perfect...fronts to a small park, about 50 yards away to bay boulevard, ten minute easy walk to MAREMAGNUM / Bay Mall, 3 minute walk to Las Ramblas' restaurants and bars, and yet quiet and peaceful. The staff (Oscar) was helpful and accommodating . The room is quaint but very comfortable and has two small balconies. The shower room is quite nice with perfect water pressure. I stayed here only for a day / night but I wish I'd stayed longer....no rooms available for the dates I needed. I could have rated value for the money with 5 stars had I booked much earlier than I did...for a cheaper price.
Two blocks away from La Rambla. Across from the port. Can't go wrong with the location. Only negative would be that being so close to such a happening place, you get the drunken screamers roaming outside at all times of the night! We only stayed one night, so it wasn't a big deal. If you're a light sleeper and plan to stay longer, might not be the place for you! The staff was great, and the room was very modern. For the $$ you can't beat it!!
A wonderful Stay!”
This hotel is in the centre of La Rambla, close to everything. Upon arrival we were greeted courteously and politely. Our room was pretty basic with no view and windows that did not open. We requested a room with a view and we were given a lovely room on the top floor the following day. Every request we made was granted and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Our visit was our first but not our last. We had an amazing time and would stay here again.
Just at the south end of La Ramblas, but a few hundred meters east so it's less noisy at night, and straight south from Plaça Reial, location is walking distance from everything worth seeing in Gotic quarter and about 25 mins from the barcelonteta beaches. Lots of good tapas and dining options close by in a 5-10 mins walking radius. Clean hotel with very lovely hall decorations and room was nice and spacious, only downside was the very hard and big pillows. Hotel is facing a small and quiet square and is easy to find. I would come back any time.
Good location and comfortable rooms”
We had a great time in Barcelona and thanks to the great location of the hotel we were so near the famous Ramblas and other attractions. We were walking distance from the marina area with fine seafood restaurants. We also took the underground subways which was two blocks from the hotel. Would highly recommend this hotel as it is value for money.
Lovely rooms with views over park and marina. Breakfast was Ok. Reception and breakfast staff were all very pleasant and helpful, rooms were cleaned daily. Hotel was just off La Rambla, near marina, and so was in an excellent location. Would stay there again.
Fabulous location ”
Fabulous location beside La Rambla and the marina. Not a too far walk away from the beach. Hotel was nice and clean. Windows were in the inside of the hotel which stopped any noise from the outside although there are other rooms with outside windows.
Location location location ”
5minute walk to cruise line shuttle. 5 minutes to rambla 5 minutes to plaza rheal Quiet Good staff I will use as my hotel in barcelona again. Con Ask if your cost inclides breakfast if not then many options just steps away You will not be disappointed
Excellent location, a stones throw from the famous ramblas. Although difficult by taxi due to the one way system and can not turn into the streets. On arrival as the suitcases were taken out of the taxi, two persons were stood in the corner in the dark as no lights in area, and we clocked them looking at our hand luggage so I quickly grabbed them and took straight into hotel reception. This made us very in edge and aware when we were out and about. Check in was very smooth, and directions to room easy and very different than any other hotel. Beautiful courtyard. Good size room with fridge which is always excellent. Modern bathroom. Small little balcony overlooking the gardens opposite. Staff could not help you enough, we asked for ice and when we returned it was in the room. They also offered directions. Overall I would definitely stay here again.
Beautiful Hotel Great Location”
This is honestly such a beautiful hotel right by the beach in Barcelona. My friends and I loved the entire layout of the hotel and the staff was friendly. We did not get to explore much of the hotel but found out the last day that they had room service. The guys at the front desk were very accommodating and helped with our bags both at check out and check in. The location was perfect right in a beautiful quiet square a short walk away from the beach, restaurants, bars, shopping and site seeing. The only thing we had a major problem with was the WiFi. It was such a bad connection and extremely slow, which was highly disappointing for us. Otherwise everything else was excellent. We had beautiful windows which opened up to a very tiny small terrace and allowed a good amount of fresh air into the room. Highly recommend.
Great hotel but some rooms need refurb ”
I have mixed views but I’ll start with positives. The hotel is really good, fantastic location for shopping, food, metro stop and exploring Barcelona! Right in the heart of town! Staff is really friendly and helpful. I was traveling alone so I got a single room which to be honest was really dark (facing the courtyard) and quite run down ( fridge door broken, wallpaper peeled) but was kept clean through my stay! Bed was comfy, bathroom was clean and nice. Unfortunately my room was so noisy at night as it was right by the stairs and lifts, with people speaking loud! As a whole I’m happy with it but honest opinion for this price I was expecting much more.
The location was perfect. Walking distance to las ramblas and the beach. There is a bike rental shop next door if you want to get around the area quicker. The rooms were small but sufficient for sleeping and showering. Comfortable beds.
Location was perfect for exploring Barcelona, just off la rambla and at the edge of the gothic quarter.
Average room, Convenient location!!!”
Conveniently located in the Gothic quarter close to port, beach and Las Ramblas. Numerous restaurants and bars within close proximity to hotel. Historical building with beautiful central atrium outside 1st level, We were allocated room 107, which had street facing views but could be a little rowdy after bars close during weekends. Bed was a little creaky, and room layout could be improved, (TV positioned in front of mirror on dressing counter). Basic guest amenities offered, a tiny 10g soap and 5ml sachets. Staff could be a little more friendly, otherwise we had a pleasant 3 night stay, and will return.
Definitely not a 4* hotel!”
This hotel is definitely not a 4* hotel as indicated in the website. I must say, the hotel location is great. It's a walking distance to La Ramblas, waterfront, Gothic Quarter and the Barcelona metro (Drassanes). The room is as bare as can be. The beds are shaky, really flat pillows, the hairdryer is broken, the toilet stinks. All we had inside the toilet was a small bar soap, small shampoo bottle but they do not replenish these basic items after it's finished. If you're looking for a basic hotel no frills etc, this is it. Other than that, nothing to shout about.
Great location for port access and also walking distance to La Rambla. Biggest issue is the hotel is very noisy. Poor design means the hotel rooms hear noise from other rooms and internal stairs and walkways. Sound echoes around the building and rooms.
2 minutes walk to main shopping area of la rambla and placa catalunya. Polite and courteous staff. Clean place and the price paid is worth it.
Short break - good location ✅”
Gr8 location for access to La Rambla, Port Vell / Marina and Gothic quarter. Clean hotel with friendly staff. Lots of local bars and restaurants nearby, you don't have to walk too far. Downside, no kettle/tea making facilities or iron in room, though has a safe and fridge.
Clean and we'll managed”
Made a last minute booking, very friendly and accommodating staff. Room was spacious and clean. Location was decent, not far from beach and la ramblas.
