Exceptional”
Lovely hotel with big room and great onsen! Staffs are friendly and very helpful although they are not good in English but try their best to assist us in any inquiry. There are many nice and yummy Japanese restaurant within 3 mins walking distance. Price are reasonable. Love to stay here, will definitely stay here again for my future trip to Hokkaido.

Not a bad place for 2 nights”
Had a room for 3 pax, with breakfast inclusive for 2 nights. Room was with tatami and was clean. Breakfast was just alright, not fantastic. Onsen was not bad with a partial outdoor onsen.

Outdoor onsen and traditional tatami”
Booked the room for 3 adults in a tatami room. Unfortunate the aircon is not strong but fortunately has a fan all readied in our room. Traditional tea set on table and well thought eg disposable chopticks in the glass cabinet is nice to have, especially in such remote area where there are limited breakfast option. Eateries could be a number of them but not prominent as not sure if open for business. 5 min drive near to an outdooor Kawayu Onsen Foot bath that was reviewed to be free but indicated has to pay 200 yen. But since no operator managing, guess can still be used for free.

The onsen makes it worthwhile”
Clearly the hotel needs a refurbishment but everything is made up for by the views in the open-air onsen. Breakfast is very decent at 500 yen. I'm not a fan of buffets so dinner at the nearby izakayas is a better option as everything is within walking distance. The onsen is we'll-located between Lake Mashu and Lake Kussharo. So even if you don't drive, you can rent a bike or motorised scooter to get around. And near-by Kawayu-onsen station will take you to Kushiro, or anywhere on the JR senno line, so access is not an issue.

Room smelled of smoke but clean”
All rooms in this hotel are smoking rooms, thus be prepared to get used to the smell of smoke should you be deciding to stay here. That aside, room is clean and decent, albeit a little old in furnishings. Onsen is available on the first floor but its dated and old as well, nothing to rave about or entice you for a second try. Only gripe with this place was the cost which is higher than other hotels I've stayed at, although you ain't got much of an alternative option as Kawayu Onsen town is pretty small to begin with without much accommodation options.

Nicely decorated hot spring bath, good location and friendly staff”
The hotel is located just in the center of the hot spring street. Parking is free. Room is pretty clean. Hot spring bath is pretty good, the outdoor one is just standing in front of a forest, feel very natural. Staff is friendly, the lady checked in for us, like to learn Cantonese. Only downside for this hotel is that the price is a little high.

Very good”
Location ok, not far from that area of tourist attraction spot. Room rate inclusive breakfast not cheap, but with the tasty breakfast and Indoor + outdoor Onsen still worth give a try. We pre-booked dinner from hotel, the dinner set really good and worth the value of money. Rather old-fashioned room, but cleanness is ok. Tatami gave us good slept.

very dated decoration, staff unfriendly”
the whole area is famous for sulfur onsen (hotspring) so all the hotels built here are for onsen vacation. This hotel is good in location wise but very dated in facilities. Public bath area is the most basic one among all hotels I've been stayed in Hokkaido this time. The open area sulfur onsen pool is it's only feature. Dinner is well served, breakfast is good. However one of the male staffs was very unfriendly which is unbelievable. We went to the front desk to ask for the details about wifi password cause they only printed instruction in Japanese on the paper they gave us. There was no one at front desk (it's only around 7:30pm actually), we tried to ask someone from inside of the office behind the front desk, then a male staff came out with his forehead deeply frowned like we've disturbed him from his rest (for god sake, it's only 7:30pm!), then he rudely pointed at another paper pasted on the wall to us instead of trying to help us getting the password at all! worst experience!

Quiet and tradtional hotel”
This hotel islocated in a quiet town. Room isbig but because we were there in early spring, there was no aircon in the room and the room felt stuffy, so we had to request for a fan from the reception. Don't open the windows too big in case insects get into the room. Dinner was not included, hence we asked the lovely lady at reception for recommendations and she told us how to get to an izakaya about 5 mins by foot. Lovely food and a young lady who can speak english! Breakfast at the hotel was Japanese style (buffet) so some people may not be used to the food.

Very friendly receptionist”
Receptionist was very friendly and welcoming, she made the stay more comfortable. It was an unusually hot night when we were there, opening of windows for outside air led to insects flying in despite the insect netting present. Room was hot due to the hot night. Stay was otherwise pleasant.

good food in neighbourhood, outdoor onsen, souvenir shop”
There were a few good izakayas in the neighbourhood, which were a short walk away. The outdoor onsen was enjoyable. However, onsens were all of the same temperature (about 41-42 degrees Celsius) and may not be comfortable for all. Staff speaks Chinese too!
