Great location”
Stayed here on a few seperate occasions. I used to meet my wife here. she is living in Singapore, I stayed in Malacca. So i would come here on weekends to meet her. Meldrum Rd food area is vibrant and fun. This hotel is great value. JB Sentral is 5 minute walk.

For single traveller looking for budget, no-frills stay”
This is it. The cheapest accommodation in meldrum area (from what I last check). Good for travellers seeking just a bed n room. The rooms are huge. In fact I can't remember any hotels in that area offering large rooms. But it's offers very basic accommodation n there's nothing about it that feels like a hotel. If you are staying with family or loved ones, there's other alternatives, but at higher price. Recommended for single, no-frills traveller

Basic Rooms and Affordable”
I am quite surprised when I came here again after a previous stay. The rooms were refurbished and the aircondition worked very nicely and beds were comfortable. Clean and good! Recommended for someone with a semi-flexible budget. Wifi is alright, no complains. Could break off from time to time. By the way, there are many great food stalls around!

Clean hotel.”
I stayed at a standard room this time. I was told standard rooms are on level 1 while Superior rooms are on level 4. Standard rooms are slightly smaller than Superior but the noise level is much more if you're facing the main street(I asked for a room facing the street so I can't complain.) Still, quite clean. No problems whether standard or Superior.

Clean Hotel”
Meldrum is not a new hotel but it is quite clean. The staff have done a decent job maintaining the hotel. I like the bed very much(it was very firm) but the pillows are abit too flat for my liking. I had to stack two together but it became too high instead....

Solo traveler looking for a night in JB to avoid the Causeway queue”
My favourite JB hotel, without any hestitation. Whenever i need a cheap and convenient hotel while waiting for the Causeway car queue to lessen, it is always Meldrum. I covered extensively before in the previous reviews, it is conveniently located near the Immigration and major shopping centre (City Sq). Hawker and street food is everywhere when you stepped out from the hotel. Famous food include: The Kam Long Curry Fish Head (walking distance), Ya Wang duck rice (don't order the duck rice for 1 person. Try their herb marinated duck, which is at least half a duck). Weighing the cons, the room rate is still one of the cheapest in JB. No question. Room is spacious but dont expect a hotel feel. It's more of a low to mid end Airb&b room rental. But if you want a real hotel, visit KSL or Holiday Villa. They are more appropriate for family trip where comfort is high on your list. Meldrum is good for a short stay (1 or 2 days) and when you are alone and not picky with facilities.

Very good”
The Meldrum is always the lodging I use when in Jahor Baruh, I've been using since before it was updated by the owner with new LCD TVs, new coffee makers/boiling water machines and nice showers. The most enexpensive rooms use locked communial toilets, so there's none in the room, the inexpensive one. Restaurants/stands in alleys everywhere, great place to eat reasonably. Just a hair of the more expensive side; but then I always travel on the cheap so I can use my money for all the other things to do and see when on the road. Recommended!

Budget Hotel at City Center”
The location is exactly at the city center, walking distance to the JB Central bus station, the street quit busy since along the way there is a street hawker steel food for dinner/supper so if you feel hungry at midnight iit's not a big issue. The street environment have to be more alert, Meldrum walk(food hawker), Night Bazaar, Johor bahru City Center Mall, Komtar Mall, Galleria Mall is walking distance. The staff is very friendly (Watie if not mistaken) the hotel currently upgrading so sometimes a noise. the rest is ok for me.

Gets the job done”
Nobody comes to Johor for a holiday. It's a transit point or a place for Singaporeans to shop a little cheaper on the weekend and go home. It's not supposed to be a resort destination. This hotel is perfectly located, dozens of good cheap food choices right out side the entrance, and within walking distance to the shopping mall, and to the trains out of here.

some pros, some cons”
a bit far from JB sentral. there is a 2 RM bus but borrowing a car is recommended for many reasons. choice of food is quite limited around. usually bought meals in JB sentral and come back. *caution. do not ask for laundry service. asked for laundry service and waited for 3 days. asked 2 staffs but the next shift worker did not know about it. they were forgetting about my laundry until I asked them again. my green textile laundry bag was lost and instead my laundry was in vinyl bag.

Good location, clean room and nice staff
Geat value for money. i booked the room with shared toilet and i had the good surprise to find a shower and a washbasin in my room (actually ony the toilet was shared and it came as a good news). The hotel is ideally located at 5 min walk from jb sentral and from the city tower (& the huge shopping mall)....i have to admit i had mixed feelings about the location at first sight (some drunk people, some prostitutes and some cops in the small meldrum street) But after 6 nights at meldrum hotel, i realized that everybody is living in absolute peace here and the atmosphere is just great ! i felt like i was in one of the streets of the movie "blade runner" ! Many restaurants and food stalls in the tiny streets around, many shops, 7eleven, laundry etc, many great people from many different origins. ....Quiet place and The staff is very helpful. i recommend.

Location is great, Friendly Staff and Good Cleaner
I stay at the room w/o window. The toilet is outside. But there are shower and wash basin inside the room. The big sized TV has good/clear reception and adequate channels. I have to say their room cleaner has done a good job. Walking distance to JB Sentral and CIQ.

Well, is not cheap to consider this hotel is the oldest hotel among this street. Without fridge and wifi suck! the worst is one stone away for local Kopitiam which operate 24 hours with other shop. Street is dirty and a lot of un normal ppl loitering around even at wee hours. I just happend to stay 2 night and wak eup by loud noise at teh kopitiam which there is a fight going on. My god. This is last time.

Shld have highlighted in advertisement tht toilet not attached to the room. Very inconvenient. And thr was a some maintenance work started early morning in hotel with lot of noise whc definitely distrub ur sleep. Meldrum is one of the worst hotel I ever encounter n not title for a 2 star ranking. I'll more prefer if the front of the house staff are local n not foreigner.
