Dolphin Hotel Bali

Dolphin show ”
Stayed to view the dolphins and animal sanctuary. A must for anyone wanting to swim up close with these beautiful creatures of the sea. The Indonesian government monitors the sanctuary so this is not exploitation.
In need of updating”
The staff are very sweet and it is, according to the blurb, the only hotel in the world where (for a fee of course) you can get a private session in the pool with dolphins (these are rescue dolphins which because of injuries would not survive in the ocean). Do not expect a quiet commune with them though. The keepers are constantly telling you what to do as the keepers put them through their paces. Avoid the "ride" if you are not young and fit, I strained my back. The dancing and the dolphin kiss was lovely though. The room was very basic, I thought it was meant to be deluxe but there weren't even bedside lights. Sheets and towels have seen better days and poor ventilation made smelly bathroom. More importantly there is no alcohol at this hotel!
Great hotel, great food and great dolphins”
Extremely satisfied with the rooms, the food, the service and of course the animals in the hotel compound. Good place for a family vacation - Fun and Smiles - My young kids had a memorable swim with the dolphins. The trainers were very professional and patient. December, i guess is the dolphin season. Took a traditional boat out to sea and had a whale of a time. Saw many schools of dolphins frolicking in the sea. I would recommend this hotel to my friends.
stay here to swim with dolphins”
the experience of swimming with the dolphins was mind-blowing. i cried it was so beautiful......and yes you can cuddle them and let them tow you around the pool. what a total rush - we will do this again.
Great Hotel and Nice Location”
I was pretty shocked when i was taken to the room, it was big! At least that's what i thought at that time since i was travelling alone. I even got a bathroom with bathub. I like staying here, the hotel has mini zoo (though it might be more interesting for kids), pool, dolphin show (twice a day: every 16.00 and 09.00). Breakfast is standard, not bad though. If you want to go the beach, you can use hotel side entry, and walk for about 200m to the beach, not a good one though.
Perfect location with great dolphin show”
The room is extra big with perfect facilities especially for young children. The dolphin show is very interesting. We can swim with dolphin and it will be a great experience. The location is near the beach, with a rent small ship we can see the dolphin in the sea, but you have to wake up early in the morning.
Just be prepared”
That this once grand place is not what the photos show. I think many of the rooms are now apartments for the people who work there. The grounds and gardens must be too large to keep up. There are empty ballrooms and dark places;things once stored out of sight now spill over into plain view. As always, the Balinese people were lovely.
Good but lack of maintenance ”
We already 3 times here, but maybe this is our last, because need more maintenance and also i forgot my watch here, but no staff give return to me, althrough i point by gps my smartwatch still there until the battery gone. The plus was dolphin inside hotel, minus maintenance and staff honest was none.
My 1st experience at Melka”
We went there because want to see dolphin in the early morning but probably the room need more new touch and renovation as it was an old building and it wasn't the best relaxing moment at we thought it could be.
One nite in Melka”
Spent one nite in Melka. Got nothing much to do since we arrived around 4pm. Took the kids to mini zoo & swimming. Staffs are friendly assisting our needs. The hotel is quite old but still considered as okay. The special thing about Melka is we got a chance to see dolphins.
Old Hotel with bad maintenance”
Very bad. Actually we left this hotel early. We booked 2nights, but we only survive one night. Found insect's skin in my daughter's soup for our lunch. The room is stink badly. The pool is so dirty. Definitely not recommended. My kids only enjoy the swimming with dolphin and horse ride.
Old hotel, old rooms, nice staffs, nice dolphins”
We had a great time in Melka Excelsior Hotel. We had fun in the pool and with the dolphins. The bathroom door should be changed to a better one, the bathroom light was too dim, and the "art" in the bathroom is not suitable, especially for kids and teens. There should also be an elevator, even though there are only 2 floors. The beds are too old that they squeak. The zoo is not really interesting. The back path to the beach should be renewed, and signs should also be placed to tell us where to go to reach the main hotel.
Return to the Melka”
Wonderful. Returned to where we got engaged, and got a free upgraded room, courteously provided due to my brother contacting the hotel. Lovely staff, always happy to help. Just need to concentrate more on the little things and they'll have a superb hotel
Close to beach”
Hotels is good to have dolphins which can play with guests. 5 minutes walk can reach beach so that can save a lot of travelling time to join early morning tour to watch dolphin. Staff are nice. spacious room.
Great and Enjoyable Stay”
Staffs are friendly. Hotel a bit old and should go for renovation. Restaurants and pool area a lot of mosquitoes. What make this hotel special is dolphins and some pets there. If the hotel refurnish, it will be great.
Wonderful Hotel,Great Dolphin Show,Excellent Staff”
We loved the stay at Melka hotel. First, my son loves to see the dolphins and Dolphin Show in the hotel, we even got chance to pay to take pictures of touching and kissing the dolphins, which are definitely sweet momeries for both my son and myself. Second, the hotel's back door is very near to the beach, about 5 mins walk, where you can sail off to see the wild dolphins swimming in the oceanin early morning, we were very lucky that we saw so many dolphins that morning. Last, the staff there are wonderful, my husband left his laptop in the lobby when checking out, and 5 hours later when he found out his laptop missing, he even cannot remember where he had put it. We tried to call the hotel, and very lucky, the staff there have already put the laptop away for us and waiting for our fetching. Since our Chinese mobile does not work at all in Bali, that's why they could not get hold of us. And later, our temporary diver in Bali arranged a pick-up for the laptop. I have to say that the people in Bali are so so nice! Thank you everyone (Hotel staff and our driver) for returning my husband's laptop to him savely. As he said there were lots of important documents in it. So, if we could be back to Lovina again one day, we will definitely stay in Melka Hotel again!
Best budget hotel in Lovina.”
The hotel environment, facilities and services have improved significantly compared to our last stay there in 2008. The hotel is much cleaner now and well maintained. It's the only hotel in Lovina which offers the dolphin show, mini zoo & animal circus and is especially great for those with children. The breakfast was quite good. The restaurant serves varieties of dishes and our meals overall were great. The staff were very friendly. We had a pleasant and enjoyable stay at Melka Excelsior and its definitely value for money.
Build-in mini zoo & pool to swim with dolphins”
Melka is an interesting hotel with its build-in mini zoo, you can see lizards, crocodile, peacocks, owls etc. inside the hotel, it has a dolphin pool where guests can book & swim with dolphins. It was the best part, we could touch, shake hands, kiss, hold fins & swim together with dolphins, the experience was amazing. The only complain was the turbid water, it was green & not clear at all, wondering if the hotel change water frequently to keep it clean. For those don't want to pay extra for dolphin swim, there're 2 dolphin shows for free every day at 10am & 4pm. We were staying at the Sunset Suite on the 2nd floor, it has a small but nice balcony where we can see the beautiful sunset. Room was clean & tidy with comfortable bed & air-conditioning. Whole room was decorated by lots of art pieces, wood carved figures, stone sculptures, paintings collected by the owner from various part of the world, they were nice but the display was old-fashioned, it just felt like putting lots of stuff together, lack of style. Internet signal was bad in the room, we'd suggest you to stay close to lobby or swimming pool for internet access. Food was awful in Melka, but there're some really nice restaurants around, on the way to Lovina beach, or just walk outside the front door & turn right. Afternoon tea was a tiny piece of super sweet & tough cake with tea/coffee. Buffet breakfast was a nightmare, we arrived at 8:30am & all food trays were emptied, no egg, no ham, no milk, basically nothing! There were lots of hungry guests sweeping every piece of food they found to their plates, the only thing left was bread, but sorry there're only 1 toaster for 2 toasts each time, I end up waiting for 15-20 minutes to toast my bread. After a long wait, the staff refill 8-10 pieces of fried eggs & they were gone in seconds, if you want food, you've to fight as if during the famine. There're better hotel options in the area, but worth a night for the dolphin swims.
Surprisingly good considering others reviews”
I really enjoyed our stay here...we had read somany others reviews (and many of them are not so good) that although I wanted to seethe Dolphions ansd give my partner a chance to seim with them...that I actually bookedanother hotel for the night as a fall back...no need whatsoever...I was really pleasantly surprised...and after 39 trips toBali andmany different hotels, I thought that the room was well furnished and clean, the A/.C worked well, the pool was great, the breakfast one of the best buffets I have had in Bali, and for value for money, was very impressed.Despite comments fromAnimal do-gooders, the Hotel may seem a bit gimmicky, but I enjoyed the small zoo, and the families I saw and other couples also seemed to equally enjoy it.Maybe we Austrlaians forgetwhat having open plains Zoos is all about, but for small islands with large populations, any zoo is an asset, and the animals do seem well cared for, etc. The dolphinsa are a highlight...and the chance to swim with them is also right up there. Don't believe all the bad stuff...surely it is worth a ni9ght of "lets suck it and see" for the money...what have you got to lose anyway...where else can you swim with the dolphins....nowhere in Bali that I am aware of...so judge accordingly....remember that the more people that stay the better the treatment for all concerned...and I am booking back into this really nice Larger Hotel in December when we bring the Kids (to swim with the dolphins too)...can't have been that bad then. I thought the staff were really great (as like in many Bali hotels, yetstill retained the personal touch...).
Value for Money”
I had a pleasant stay at Melka for the second time visit to Lovina Beach. I love the ambience of the hotel which is suitable to greet me after a long journey from Kuta Beach. The room is big, clean and tidy facing with well maintained garden and completely suits for my holiday. The dolphin show was fun but if the hotel prolong the time would be much better. Overall the hotel was good and value for money.
