Good but not quite as expected.”
The rooms are big and the beds comfy, the staff is polite and helpful. Breakfast is good and the location is also great. I may have set my expectations a little to high as it is rated as a 4 star. The building is getting old, the floor makes a lot of squeak sounds and the carpet has that old smell. Don't get me wrong as the hotel seems clean.

      Acceptable”
Hotel was not obvious to find, neither was the car park. Price of car park dreadful, considering a lack of spaces, pillars in the wrong places. Very tight squeeze. Amazing if no cars have been scraped. Only spaces left were the ones with pillars. Also very tight manoeuvring around car park and getting out As for hotel. Not the room I had asked for initially, The booking system gave a different room than what was asked for. Paid £100 more than what it is advertised from groupon. Asked initially for a sea view and queen room. That is what was processed my end. Got a double room at back in the mews area. Pokey, a maze, bed was 2 singles pushed together with a massive headboard to make it look like a huge bed. Lack of bed covers.. A thin summer duvet, not ideal given to the time of year and a bitter cold day. Room was freezing! Bathrooms small, dreadful shower and to top it, once on the shower would not turn off. Called reception several times. No one answered. Had to go down there inste

Greeted with a request for payment when I'd paid previously. which concerned me as I had to give my CC information. No tea or coffee provided but a kettle and the housekeeping at 1.30pm was inconvenient, they need to employ more staff. Bar man great

      Terrible”
      beach front
The room was shockingly outdated and small, the bathroom is worse than those ones in motels. The shower drain is half blocked. The service is terrible, including the staff at the front desk, restaurant and the room cleaning staff... I would not recommend this hotel to anyone..

      Mediocre”
      Friendly efficient staff
Staff the hotel were exceptional. However rooms are basic and poorly finished. WiFI only available in public areas, if you want internet access in your room there is an extra charge starting at £4 for one hour. Parking charges £18 per day. It would seem that this hotel will do anything to make a few extra pounds which cannot be justified under any circumstances. Would I stay here again? No. I would look for a 4* hotel which caters for basic customer needs without extra charges. Which is what you expect of a 4* hotel

Calm in eye of the storm”
      Staff, location, size of room
Our request for occupancy of 4 (2+2) had not been received by the hotel but the front desk offered a free upgrade and made up the sofa beds in the room very quickly. Great location, rather old-fashioned and, in the eye of St Jude, the windows rattled constantly. It felt solid though and the additional heater did the trick.

Brilliant staff. Will stay there again.”
Great service, seafront location, quiet room
I really enjoyed my five days at the hotel. I've always been happy with Mercure hotels and this is no exception. It's in one of many Regency buildings along Brighton's seafront. The interior is average, but our room was recently renovated to a decent level. It's comfortable and fairly large for the price. Wish it had a fridge, though. And a window that you can open wider. It was the service that made the stay exception. Everyone behind the desk was brilliant. Location wise, it's a little bit out of the way from town centre but Brighton's bus service is great.
