Great location, big room!”
Closely located to the city centre this is a hotel I would stay at again. The room was large with a very comfortable king size bed. Yes its decorated in an older style but everything is well maintained. Also lots of parking available in the back carpark behind the hotel. No noise issue at all and I slept soundly through the night and I am a light sleeper so I was very happy.

great location, beautiful historical interior”
love this place, it's a part of Canberra history and the furnishings in the common areas reflect this heritage. Lovely. Great food, good pub facilities, close to War Memorial and city. Very accomodating staff and management, thank you.

Quaint and close to city”
Fabulous staff, nice 1920’s feel to this place. Comfy bed, lovely view of the courtyard- a really nice place for a romantic escape. Only down side was an antiquated aircon which sounded like a Tardis all night in the room. Would highly recommend this as a get away and will return again.

Convenient Historical Hotel”
It is an old style hotel located not too far from the airport, neighboring the National War Memorial and walking distance to the Canberra Centre where you can board the free Cultural Bus which does an hourly circuit of ten tourist sites. An architecturally pleasing building.

Great location but a bit tired ”
Choose this place for lovely staff and good but quiet location. Facilities everything you’d need but a bit outdated - this lovely old building is just calling out for an authentic refurbishment

Very good”
Nice heritage building but carpet is tired, i think bathroom is a bit small for 4 stars hotel like Mercure. I was allowed for early check-in. My room facing main road and had no issue with noise, and trees and birds sound of the window feeling so peaceful. Located only 10min walking to city center.

One night in Canberra. The Mercure was good value for what we needed ”
The hotel had noisy water pipes in room 108 and squeaky floorboards. Other than that it was a good hotel.

The hotel is pretty old. It is just not a five-star hotel. ”
Not up to the standard. The room is very big though.

Above average”
A rather ordinary insect was in my bathroom sink. When I phoned reception they offered me bug spray for the night. The cold tap made a horrible racket and The mini bar looked half used before I even got there. Very disappointing if you chose the standard room option at this hotel!

Very poor housekeeping ”
One of the worst kept room I have ever encountered. Tea cups were stained. An empty beer bottle was left behind. Safe was left locked Balcony was dirty Chair in the balcony was stained with bird shit. Pen in the room dried up without ink. In the morning, housekeeping staff was washing the balcony upstairs and dirty water came pouring down into our balcony. That was the last straw for us. To be fair, the hotel is nice. The interior ambience is very rustic. The gardens are beautiful. A bit aged and needs some upgrade perhaps but with such poor housekeeping, I will never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Please Don't”
Please Don't book this hotel. The only benefit about this hotel is just it's close to city center. NOT value for money at all. Very smelly carpet/stains from the minute you enter to reception all the way to your room, even inside the room is very dirty carpet. Bedroom: Very small, safe box not working, door locker from inside the room is NOT working, bed sheets very dirty and hasn't been changed or badly washed with a smell like shit. Bathroom: Quarter toilet paper roll only was there, not even a full roll. Breakfast: Scrambled egg , ham, mushroom, beans toast.NO chees of any kind . Tea &coffe. Staff: Reception Staff, One smiling, other sad face and talking like shit. Staff at breakfast: They good. However $25 for that kind of breakfast it's a rip off cause you eat nothing! Hotel in General: its doesn't suet families/ kids. It's kind of rooms and you grab whoever for a night and go. you can even call a hooker like I saw and you can hear what's happening in next room as it happen. Floor, carpet, food price , not friendly staff Very dirty bed sheets and windows, all of that made my stay very uncomfortable with my wife. I will Never ever stay again in there and it's NOT RECOMMENDED FOR FAMILIES Trust me on that. Better to go next door to Novotel same price and 100% better or any other hotel.

Wonderful base for our Canberra stay”
We chose to stay at Mercure partly out of nostalgia for the old Ainslie Rex but also because it is close to our daughter and new grandson in Braddon. It still had the old Rex charm but was tastefully refurbished with all mod cons. Breakfast in the dining room was a reminder of times past too - a great way to start the day. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. Mercure will be our 'place to stay' in Canberra for family visits.

Beautifully restored old hotel”
old canberra icon beautifully restored. rooms very comfortable and clean. fantastic staff. hotel is within easy walking distance of canberra centre and many restaurants. we ate one night in the hotel bistro as restaurant isn't open on sunday. food was ok and reasonably priced. however, staff allowed a number of children to run riot without asking the parents to keep them in check. the noise was impossible and their behaviour spoiled the evening totally. staff just said they were a 'family friendly hotel' and didn't feel they could approach the parents. however we would stay there again as the hotel itself was extremely good.
