The only full-scale hotel in Kakadu National Park, Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel is the perfect base from which to explore the country's largest national park. Must-see sites include the Aboriginal rock art galleries of Ubir and Nanguluwur, the majestic Jim Jim Waterfalls, and Gunlom. After a day spent exploring the park either on foot, a 4WD, or on a river cruise, guests will appreciate a dip in the cool hotel pool. We enjoyed our stay at the Merc your crocodile hotel. We could access the flight over the wetland ”
The Mercure crocodile hotel is very central to Kakadu and has a very good restaurant which is open even in the wet season. They make good coffee and good drinks. The staff are friendly and a very nice Northern Territory people. We could access the aeroplane flight and the river cruise from the hotel. There is also a supermarket next-door for stocking up on supplies.
Good location for seeing Kakadu”
There are very few hotel choices in Kakadu. Two hotels in Jabiru (Crocodile and Aurora), one in Cooinda (sister hotel to Gagudju Jabiru) and a second 3 star Aurora along the Arnhem Highway. Clientele of the Gagudju Jabiru are mostly elderly retired folks. The hotel itself is getting a bit grubby on the outside and probably needs painting. Having said that the rooms are clean. (apart from cobwebs under the bedside lamp which needs to be addressed). Also we came back one evening to find no clean towels (I guess housekeeping forgot) and it took ages to get new ones (along with a moody blond girl behind reception who kept saying 'they're coming'). Hotel location is good for setting off in the car to Ubirr, Nourlangie and Cooinda. There's a supermarket next door (the main Jabiru store) and a small cafe with pastries and sandwiches on the other side of the road beside the gas station. We had buffet dinner which was ok. Nothing mind blowing. Staff were for the most part very friendly apart from that one cranky young girl at reception.
Luxury in the bush”
I love that the hotel is owned by the traditional owners of the country first and foremost. I also love the quirkiness of the shape of the hotel from the air looking like a crocodile. Booking was easy, we were upgraded at check in, the room and hotel were attractive (including the art gallery) and very comfortable. We had a refreshing swim in the pool and walk alongside attractive gardens and pools. The staff provided us with helpful information and we booked a fabulous Yellow Waters cruise in the morning. The gift shop had a great range of souvenirs at good prices. We didn't use the restaurant although it looked good. The only minor improvement might be having a lift to take guests up to the first floor. Despite this the staff offered to help take luggage up the stairs.
It was lovely to stay there. Fantastic. It was the best Hotel in Jabiru and is not far from all atractios in Kakadu National Park (North Territory)
Lovely place to stay.”
We booked this hotel by default and I am so glad that we did. From the moment we checked in we felt special. The receptionist, sorry I don't know the young man's name was wonderful, it was no problem to change our room on request (I like to have a smoke), not for any other reason. We met the chef, a young extremely amicable young man from the UK, who recommended items on the menu, we followed that advice and were not disappointed. The stuffed chicken was delicious as were the crocodile spring rolls. Here I have to mention Leo our waiter for both nights, who was warm, attentive and extremely professional. I observed him being the same with other diners speaking German as well as English. He is a credit to your hotel. Hopefully see you next year in May.
Helpful staff, great facilities.”
My room on the ground floor was well appointed with everything that I needed. Reception staff were most helpful in arranging tours for me; even to the extent where the young reception manager took me in his free time to the river - a 40 min drive away - to enjoy a cruise as I had no vehicle. That to me was above and beyond.... The restaurant serves delicious meals, especially the ginga (crocodile) wontons. Most happy with my stay.
Dear Barbara, Thank you for your review on Agoda. It is very pleasing to hear you enjoyed your stay, in particular the service you experience from the reception team. I hope you enjoyed the remainder of your travels. Kind regards, Richard McArthur General Manager
Good location, aged property but well-maintained”
Considering the lack of accommodation options in Kakadu National Park, Croc Hotel is one of the best in terms of location. Staff were very friendly and we felt welcomed. Swimming pool is the smallest one we have seen in Kakadu, which is a shame.
It's a fun hotel in the pop-up town of Jabiru. Seems like the hotel was designed with Japanese visitors in mind, especially the dining room. However, the food is typical outback fare, mostly frozen and heated up. It's a shame that most cocktails aren't available, as the tropical atmosphere would be great for a few poolside drinks. Loved the place though and would go back.
Comfort in heart of Kakadu”
Bit dated but great access to all Kakadu has to offer. Four star camping! After long day hiking, exploring and feeling hot and bothered great to have comfy room, shower, reasonable food and a beer at hotel bar. Not far to dine at local golf club (saw staff dining there) or other nearby resort for a change if staying more than one night. Best hotel in Kakadu (from a Darwin local).
We stayed for 2 nights and were very disappointed. After seeing the "Crocodile" design of the hotel on the internet we were looking forward to staying in this hotel. The staff was friendly and the interior garden was innovative and interesting but that is where it ends. The food was mediocre for a 4 star hotel and other facilities in the area served far superior meals. This hotel sits in one of the world’s premium sites yet the whole experience in the hotel was underwhelming and overprices compared to other facilities in the area. We will come back to Kakadu but will not use or recommend this hotel.
Better then average in Kakadu”
Helpful and a very kind staff, excellent dinner, a little bit older furniture but still better then average in Kakadu.
Was excellent staff and management were very good ”
Was excellent the best would recommend it to anyone travelling to Kakadu
Only OK standard”
We are a family of 4, with 2 teenage daughters. The hotel room was barely enough for us to move around. The toilet looked a bit old. There were lots of mosquitos in the hotel. Though it's the environment within the national park, they didn't do much to remove them in the hote lobby. I will try another accommodation in Jabiru if I go to Kakadu National Park next time.
Great location meals not quite up to it”
Kakadu is a great location. Rooms are comfortable....the internet is not good enough. The food was OK but there is a limited lunch menu.
Thank you for reviewing our hotel on Agoda. It is pleasing that you have enjoyed most aspects of your stay. It is disappointing that we have not met expectations with your dining experiences. I hope you enjoyed the remainder of your travels. Kind regards, Richard McArthur General Manager
No other option”
As this is the only "hotel" in the Kakadu region it pretty much has the market - unless you want cabins or camping. Hotel is in dire need of a makeover as it is nowhere near 4-stars. Rooms are clean and comfy but tired, bathrooms are old and small. Pool area is lacking. Breakfast is overpriced but dinner is well priced, many options and food was a highlight. As they say location is everything.
Nice Hotel in the middle of the N.P”
Good location, clean rooms & helpfull staff. For the remoteness of Jabiru you have to pay the pricetag in restaurant & bar ..but thats fine, thats AUS and you do not have any alternative. Rooms are really spacious
Good but it's the only hotel in town”
It was good. The restaurant is OK but not brilliant. They put on a nice buffet, but it's the only hotel in town so they have the monopoly of Jabiru. The pool was excellent especialy after a forty degree day. The staff were friendly and generally efficient except when I ordered a glass of red and got charged for a bottle. Accidents can happen. They were extremely good at organising boat trips and they all went to schedule. As a wilderness hotel it was very pleasant.
Fun stay in Kakadu ”
Croc hotel was pretty much as expected. A little dated, but clean. A good base to explore Kakadu.
Jabiru - the only place to stay”
There is really only one place to stay in Jabiru, the facilities are fine and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The buffet breakfast is a bit ad hoc with various machines not working but it provides a great start to the day as it opens at six am. The reception staff were helpful apart from the check in process which did not provide us with enough information and also held my safety 'deposit' long after we left.
Dear Kayti, Thank you for reviewing our hotel on Agoda. It is pleasing that you have enjoyed most aspects of your stay. Please accept my sincere apologies that your check-in experience was not as welcoming as it should have been, I have shared this with the front office team to ensure we better serve our guests in the future. I acknowledge that we had been experiencing difficulty with our coffee machine, however we are confident the recent servicing of it has rectified the issue. I hope this did not impact your stay too much. Kind regards, Richard McArthur General Manager
Hotel needs to be totally updated. The rooms are in need of new beds new fridges, carpet, paint and new everything. No microwave on fridge big enough to put your own drinks or prefer a quick snack Food at hotel to expensive to be consumed there everyday. Although staff and food we tested was excellent.. however no many services available in town either and due to being the beginning of wet season many sites were also close. Not a place I would visit again. I was overall disappointed with Kakadu in general.
