Wonderful grounds, staff all work their socks off with a smile. We had a lovely break.

No special effort”
Room was very basic & small. We asked to be allocated a nice room as we were celebrating a special occasion, no effort made by staff! Very disappointing!

All fur coat and no knickers springs to mind...”
Briefly, staff were quite rude, difficult to understand, and had expressions of what I can only describe as disgust on their faces. The hotel room was relatively clean, however it needed a good hoover and the bed linen was stained. Facilities... well. The reception looks lovely, however the carpet in the foyer of our building was torn and coming away from the skirting board, and it was just dark and dingy. We did not venture to use the spa facilities so can't comment. The restaurant is absolutely awful, and even more so considering it is meant to be an AA double rosette. It is expensive and the food is what I would describe as low-quality chain pub food (at absolute best!). Only 5 options for all 3 courses, and they were all mediocre and very boring. I had a gnocchi dish which was in a sauce that you can buy at every supermarket, the whole dish I'm guessing was thrown together for around £3.50, as I cook it most weeks at home myself. Not unpleasant but for the price and apparent pomp and ceremony atmosphere the restaurant tried to display, it was pretty awful. The drinks prices are beyond expensive. £6 for a medium (175ml) glass of cheap wine, the same for a pint of beer. The saving grace of the hotel is the grounds. My advice would be to see for yourself, but for God's sake get a taxi to the nearest restaurant other than there own, and take your own drinks.

Weekend away”
Booked last minute for long weekend in hotel . Rooms Ok but curtains/ carpet bit tired. A dog was allowed into bar area which as serving food in evening and at breakfast- bit unexpected with lots small children around and possibly due to pushy owners. main issue was that fire alarm sounded at 1.30 am on sunday- as we dressed to evacuate, the alarm stopped- what next?? No one from management came to advise that it was a false alarm- a fellow resident went to desk to find out and then it passed along corridor- but that is not how we should be informed. Did advise receptionist in morning as we were checking out- but I doubt he passed the feedback to management Nice weekend- good pool and as weather was great, enjoyed the glorious gardens and grounds

Good enought but not excellent. ”
We enjoyed our stay overall but the there was a problem with WiFi, which was never fixed until we left. I also think the breakfast didn't live up to its four star hotel standard, definitely not many options for people who don't eat meat.
