Soulful artists' paradise amongst rice terraces
The picturesque & serene natural surroundings; the incredible mosaic buildings, grounds & gardens; & the inspiring owner, Professor Kung!
I only recommend this hotel to a certain type of person: independent, soulful, nature-loving, artistically-inspired individuals who will appreciate the magic in the air & the loveable eccentricity and friendliness of the owner, Professor Kung. He has created an oasis of colour, light & energy in the tranquil countryside just out of Ubud, with the rooms reflecting his worldly travels and individual style. If you're looking for a centrally-located, five-star international hotel, this is not it. If you're looking for an uplifting retreat 15 minutes from the centre, full of character & international accents, this is it.

zero customer service
decor, nature, river
Our stay was everything but deluxe. broken toilet, blocked drain so when you showered the entire bathroom would flood & the air conditioner did not work. We requested that my wife & I be collected at the airport but they did not :( Even when the staff driver dropped us in Ubud for lunch & shopping they did not collect us at the time requested & had to find out own way back to Michi. We decided to check out but could not find any staff.

Old and run down. A relic of its former glory
Quiet, peaceful and creative
Old and run down. Premises not properly maintain and the AC isn't working too well. Water and clean towels were not refreshed daily. Plus the credit card machine is spoilt. But if u step into this place ten years ago, it will be splendid. As the rooms are done with different themes. Such a pity that it was left to ruins.

Disappointed. Running down hotel.
Booked and paid but stayed for an hour and left. The hotel was running down with poor maintenance. So sad for its nice views which could not make up for broken buildings. No other guests staying.

Poor due to its old condition specifically the bed
surrounding environment
Overall a poor experience. That said all staffs were courteous and friendly. Poor because of poor room condition due to lack of long term maintenance for the room that we were staying in: Zen Villa. There was a big lizard in the room that scared my lovely wife and the bed was bad that we suffer backpain after the 2nd night. We booked the standard room through agoda but upon arrival, no one seems to be aware of booking. Standard rooms are full occupied and we were given a Villa which location is quite isolated from the main complex. Being a city person, the night experience is slightly uncomfortable.

Research before you book.
The natural features.
If you're looking for all of the commodities of a properly run vacation spot this might not be the place for you. While the uniqueness and views can be nice the lack of adequate service is apparent as soon as you walk in. They had seemingly no clue guests would be arriving on the day which led to myself hunting down staff to get checked in. Every room was completely different from the others. Most were dirty, run-down, and full of critters. They lacked both toiletries and towels which were only received upon request. The breakfast was decent and the sound of the river made things peaceful. I was really annoyed with some of the positive points they kept drilling into us during our stay like permaculture. I almost felt it to be an elaborate ruse to excuse the property's decay. The regular maintenance is spotty at best and with open wires around the pool, sharp edges of broken mirror everywhere incidents were bound to happen. At the time of my stay they had almost completed the market right up the road however it was still a 15-20 minute ride into the city center. The transportation was solely dependent on whether or not the staff was ready to take you in... otherwise you remained somewhat stranded. If they were charging a 1/4th of the price it might be an interesting option but in comparison to everything offered in that region the price was not worth it. I tried soo hard to find the positives during my stay but consistently got more upset. The potential of this property is very great but sadly it is being squandered.

Beautiful setting although not a retreat
Swimming pool
Stunning architecture and design although has heat and rain has taken its toll. I was only guest so felt very isolated. This place could be amazing if they turned it into full on retreat, but instead it's just another hotel.

Unique - nothing like big chain hotels atmosphere
spa overlooking the rice padis and little stream, unique designs for every room
loved michi - not a place for everyone's liking - however fantastic place if you want a special atmosphere-design. the place is built by the people from the village - check out the hotel website to find out about the owner of the hotel as well. impressive story behind this place-people. staff was helpful and arranged everything we wanted almost immediately - we had yoga classes every morning with very inspiring teacher from ubud area. strongly recommended! enjoyed the spa treatments mainly due to the spa atmosphere-open design. you feel like living in a village - nice change for big city dwellers. will remind russian tourists of "dacha"
