The hotel was small but clean. Room was cozy and the staffs were very well behaved. Washroom was clean and all the essentials were in provided by the hotel. Free buffet breakfast was given by the hotel. The breakfast was freshly made and tasted good. We stayed there for 2 days and are extremely satisfied with the service. We plan to stay there again on our next visit.
Very modern room. ”
The room was small but modern and very well done. What's more important is that they're very clean. The bathrooms are also very well designed. The staff need a lot of training.

Small hotel in the center of the city”
Do not rely on this hotel for transport”
I have been to Calcutta a great number of times and I am used to hotels helping with the transport to the airport simply by calling a taxi. Middleton Inn is, however, an exception so it is best to make one's own arrangements for transport. The staff of this hotel cannot help call a normally priced taxi to the airport. A woman in the reception said they can only arrange a hired vehicle which costs 1500 IRS. According to her, regular taxis would not be available in Calcutta in the early morning. I then made other arrangements for airport transport and got a cheaper rented car. Afterwords, I got a call from the reception from a man who said that of course taxis are available in Calcutta but they would charge me 700 -- about three times the ordinary taxi fare. My conclusion is that instead of wanting to help their guests and show hospitality, the staff of this hotel tries to take advantage of the fact that tourists may not understand that there is an extremely efficient taxi service in Calcutta. My impression of the unfriendly attitude of the staff was strengthened by how I was billed. I had taken one sweet item from the mini bar and I was billed for three. When I asked the staff about this, they said taking one means taking three. This would have made sense if I had opened a package containing three items but the item I took was individually packed.
Great location but very small rooms”
Room too small, table can hardly accomdate anything, forget about the laptop
Excellent location, clean and friendly”
Excellent location to shopping, entertainment, food, sightseeing and transport all accessible within 10 minutes. Can access more by a short taxi or train trip. Hotel is cleaned inside and out several times a day so it is very clean and an oasis of cleanliness. Room service, dining and security staff are excellent. Front reception staff will benefit from experience and learning visits to hotels say in Kuala Lumpur to understand what is required in terms of standard service.
The hotel is located a few minutes walk from the Maidan subway station. It is within easy walking distance to "attractions". The hotel is a single floor in an apartment building with a security guard at the driveway entrance. We got fresh fruit and a bottle of water every day. Whilst renovated to a good standard a few years ago (probably) the room showed signs of neglect and was dirty. The sheets did not give a clean impression. The breakfast was limited and they were constantly out of juice. Reception was of limited help with tourist enquiries. I suspect it is a hotel more aimed at Indian business travellers.
Nice but basic, until they downgraded us. Central”
Great for central Kolkata and tourist spots. Breakfast basic though do have toast if you ask. Beds comfy and rooms large enough for shorter stays. Unfortunately after 4 of our 6 nights power in our room 'stopped working' so they checked us into sister hotel 10mins away which is less than half price- received no refund on lower cost. This hotel was not nice. Later found out that there was no problem with our room: they had just overbooked and needed us out. Friends still there confirmed new guests moved into our an hour after we had left. Not good!
Nice hotel and clean.”
It's very close to Sadder street (backpacker paradise). If you enjoy a quiet place, this is the place.
Great location, friendly staff”
We only stayed a night, so it was uneventful. The weird thing about the hotel is that its on the first floor, and the elevator doesn't stop there! Go figure - especially when the promoters own the building as well. Be prepared for a good climb, and no one offers to carry your luggage. We needed to leave early in the morning, so they gladly arranged breakfast early for us.
Good location and comfortable modern room”
I would recommend those to stay here for short visits to Kolkata. It is very conveniently located and one really gets a sense of the city here, in proximity to Park Street but also the walk there is interesting. The room was simple and modern, in contrast to the older hotels.
We found the Middleton to be an oasis from the noise and busy-ness of Calcutta. They arranged taxis for us to go wherever wanted. The meals were excellent. The room was quite small, but everything was there, including a wonderful fruit basket replenished daily. The area was close to shopping and the street life was diverse and interesting.
