The top of Ice House Street.”
Up the narrow winding streets of Hong Kong, sits the Mini Hotel. Starting from the airport station it can be a twisting maze of bridges, ramps, elevators and escalators just to find Ice House. Central Station is a better starting point, although you have three main routes you can take. Left is a steep, long hill, not very good for wide suitcases. The middle will take you to a scenic staircase seen in many Hong Kong movies, with three sets of stairs. The last is near Pedder street and takes you up a narrow ascent with no rest-stops on the way--just straight up for 50-steps. The service is friendly and accommodating. (Note: When I arrived, I had to put down a $400 HKD deposit.) Then you go up to your room, which is kind of small, especially with such a large bed. Honestly, my friend said everything in small in Hong Kong, but when he saw me room, he admitted it was pretty small. You have room to put some baggage on the floor, and walking space to the adjoining bathroom--which is only separated from the bedroom via a glass wall. There are bathroom lights, ceiling lights, and an overhead reading light. I didn't even notice the underbed light until later--there is also a safe under there. Large suitcases will not fit under the bed. The bathroom, depending on your room, will find the sink next to the toilet or in the shower. (Note: Close the glass doors behind you. My first shower, I left the doors open after I showered, and the humidity covered the room--frosting the mirrors, and leaving the bed slightly damp feeling.) Be aware the sliding glass door when you shower is not sealed, so water will trickle out, especially if you take vibrant showers. The walls are not exceptionally thick, as I could hear people talk and do 'other things' late at night, clearly through the wall and into the bathroom.
Mini hotel, Large value”
It was quite a walk up the steep slopes and stairs, but hey, it is hong kong after all right? Though the hotel was found sandwiched between two other building, it stood out due to it's small build making it easy to find. Entering the hotel, we were greeted with a very beautifully lobby area which was furnished with modern and contemporary furniture. There were two imacs available for use and even a piano, which i was very much tempted to play but my next to zero instrumental skills prevented me. We were briskly checked in and showed to our room by the efficient, if not so friendly, staffs there. We weren't exactly shocked by the size of the room, having done our research prior to booking the room. In fact, i actually felt that it was better than i'd expected it to be! It would've been very annoying to move around if we had brought big luggages but we were only travelling with backpacks so it wasn't really much of a hassle for us! Besides, when you're in hong kong you wouldn't be staying in that much since there's lots to do. Aside from that, i actually like the fact that the toilet had clear glass walls. It allowed me to watch the telly, not that there was anything to watch actually considering the limited channels they have, and go about my big business all at the same time. Also, toiletries was not provided but can be easily bought from a dispenser at the ground floor, Overall, we're really satisfied with our stay there. It was a really nice hotel with an affordable price. Unless you really don't enjoy small spaces i'm pretty sure you'll like the place! Well, we definitely did and wouldn't mind coming back if i were to visit hong kong again!
location location + free wifi everywhere.”
Transferred from the Prince (Marco Polo) so I was a little worried at first that there would be a contrast of quality in terms of stay, comfort and amenities. But boy was I wrong, the location of the mini hotel Central is amazing, and perfect for both shopping and if you're feeling restless at night Lan Kwai Fong is a few steps away for (tasteful) bars, clubs and restaurants. Take the stairs down right next to the hotel and all of a sudden you're in the shopping area, a few more steps and it's APC, Comme des Garcons, and Sophnet. Staff is very helpful and attentive, I accidentally left a few documents when I checked in the morning. Upon realising this in the late evening, I panicked and phoned the concierge and with minutes they had the papers sent up. Saved me the hassle of having to reprint my itinerary and airplane ticket. Comfort was very much a priority for this hotel as they had to make up for the tiny rooms, tiny yet manageable I just advise not to bring too big a suitcase as it can eat up too much space. The water pressure was very strong, hot water readily available. A/C was actually overkill for the small room so I usually kept it at a moderate setting. Free WIFI, always a plus and the lobby/lounge area is clean and stylish. I'd recommend this hotel to people looking to save a few bucks but don't want to compromise comfort and enjoyment of their Hong Kong visit.
In 2013, I and my boyfriend planned to visit Hong Kong for our 7th Anniversary relationship. Of course, we wanted the best thing for our first impressive moment and didn't want to ruin ourselves. But the best part was the place where we were gonna stay at. Among of all hotels we had approximately 9 hotels, finally we went for Mini Hotel because of its location which was very convenient to do everything we want to, shopping, hanging out, sightseeing, near attractions. It is just 5 min walk to Central MTR Station. The best part here was the tall guard guy who knew and could answer carefully about things we asked him(routes and attractions in Hong Kong) You should come stay!
Lovely mini hotel in a really great location”
I really enjoyed staying in the mini hotel central and I would definitely go back. The location is great...best i Hong Kong I would say...easy to find and close to good shopping, restaurants, the peak, airport express, central MTR. Some of the staff is super good and helpful and some are the opposite. Quite strange. Because there are super nice people working there I am not giving a bad rating for staff performance. Only thing missing in this mini hotel is garbage bins on the back stairs...not enough space in the room as well as a big pillow for the room to sit comfortably in bed.
Location cannot be beat”
Mini hotel as the name suggests offers basic accommodation but at an extremely central location. It is located right in Central next to Lan Kwai Fong, Soho, Mid Level, and Sheung Wan. You can easily walk to these locations within minutes. In addition, Central subway station is only about a five minute walk away. If you want to go to the outlying islands, the pier is about a ten minute walk. The rooms are clean but, however, are small. As a tourist, I only use my room to sleep and to bath since I am out most of the day and most of the night anyway. Therefore, this is not an issue for me. I always use this hotel whenever I am in Hong Kong.
Great Location - Central”
I was a solo business traveller and found this property to be very central on Hong kong Island in the area called "Central" which is the hub of all transport for moving around Hong Kong, Airport Express, Metro, Trams, Buses & Ferries are only a few mins walk away. Hotel was very trendy/chic with modern and new fixures. Bed was a double bed which was very comfortable with a doona. Hotel was 5 mins walk from all trendy eateries in SOHO and 2 mins walk to LKF. Wifi worked very well in room. As are all the hotel rooms in Hong Kong, this hotels rooms were small as well.
Basic, Comfortable, Clean! ”
I stay at Mini often when in HK, the value is excellent. The price is often the lowest for a non-hostle hotel. The accommodation is extremely basic, the rooms mostly just enough space for the bed & glass divider for shower, sink, and toilet. But compared to similar budget hotels, it is impeccably clean, always fresh white linens and reasonably comfortable bed. They offer tea and coffee packets, each room has an electric kettle, hair dryer, tv, a/c, and free wifi. The lobby area is very cozy but spacious, nice furniture, art, and lighting. Staff have always been very friendly and efficient. Location is fantastic in the middle of Central, an easy walk to the MTR station (although with a hill or stairs if you're walking with heavy luggage). If you're looking for a simple place to sleep with an excellent location in one of the best city areas of Hong Kong, this is a great choice.
Superb hotel for the budget traveller”
I stayed at the Mini Hotel, Central, Hong Kong for 11nights. The hotel is designed for the budget traveller i.e. small but well equipped rooms with a comfortable bed ( for two people) and adjacent toilet and shower. There are no restaurant facilities but the hotel lobby is quite spacious with comfortable seats and tables where one can hang out with friends or companions and/or surf the web ( two computer terminals and free wifi in the lobby and the rooms). There is a dispensing machine with cold drinks and light snacks in the hotel lobby. The hotel ( one of two on Hong Kong Island) is superbly located on Ice House Street very close to Lan Kwai Fong with its nightclubs, bars and restaurants and to Soho with its numerous restaurants. It's also less than five minutes walk from the Central shopping district including the Landmark, Alexander House, Exchange Square, IFC 1&2. Central bus station and the MTR subway are also very close to the hotel. The Star Ferry to Tsimtsatui on the Kowloon side of Victoria Harbour are also a ten to fifteen minute walk from the hotel. The only major drawbback to the Mini Hotel in Central is the paper thin walls between the rooms ( which means you can hear everything ( and I mean everything!) that's going on in the adjacent rooms. Also, a minor problem for less than fit guests is the number of steps one has to climb to reach Ice House street from Lan Kwai Fong. All in all I had an excellent stay.
Good value, interesting location (but a little hard to reach)”
We had an overnight layover, and needed a place to stay overnight. Mini Hotel Central was very accommodating to us. They allowed us a VERY late check-in with no questions, as they are staffed 24/7. There is an elevator, so easier with the luggage. They held our bags for us while we went out to dim sum and a quick tram tour. The room was small (as promised!) and clean, with a very cute shower and bathroom set-up. Complimentary bottles of water. Air conditioning. Cute lobby with vending machine coffee and snacks, and wifi everywhere. MHC is very close to a high-end shopping area. Marks & Spencer, Giorgio A, etc. Also very close to the tram lines, which are these fantastic old street cars. The only thing I'd really want people to know beforehand is that it's on a hill, so take a taxi. You can walk from Hong Kong Central Station. There's a fairly direct path in fact, but it's straight up a bunch of sidewalk-stairs so not great for luggage on wheels.
Dear Ken, Thank you for sparing time to share your views for your stay at mini hotel, we are grateful to know that your experience with us was a pleasant one. Your kind words motivate us to do increasingly better and work harder when it comes to serving our guests. We hope to see you again on your next trip to Hong Kong and you may also consider booking via our website for a better deal! Kind regards, mini hotel
Good location, prepare to walk up hill though”
Great value compared to similar hotels, the Mini Hotel Central is in a ideal location near the Central MTR stations, allowing you to go around Hong Kong very easily. The hotel provides the bare minimum and is relatively clean and quiet (upper floors) with a good shower and bathroom. The rooms are quite tiny though, so if you keep this in mind, you won't be disappointed.
Trendy hotel at the top of Ice House Street.”
The Cityview Room offers a view of the streets and roads above the hotel towards the mountains. In a sense, modest people will feel like other people can look back, with so many windows in Hong Kong, but they'd need pretty good binoculars to do so. Otherwise, if you're going to sit with your curtains dropped, then there is less reason to have such a commanding view. The price is slightly higher for this convenience, and it doesn't change the size of the room--although my sink moved from the toilet area into the shower area, which was a little more weird. The room is basically sealed, with no way to open the windows, etc. So it's a sealed environment. I'm not too good with air conditioning, but this was preferable to Hong Kong smog. You have the option to control the strength of airflow and the temperature up to 30 Celsius. (Whenever I'd return from a day out, I found the staff had reset the room to a much colder 15 Celsius.) The bathroom works to control it's humidity with a small fan above the toilet, so keeping that glass door shut helps. When transferring rooms, as I chose this room during my weekend stay, it as easy and quick. They also hold your bags if your room is not yet ready. The waiting area is nicely designed with an artistic feel to it. You even get WiFi for both the waiting area and your own room. Regardless, you will face hills or stairs whichever direction you go from the hotel, so keep this in mind. It can leave you breathless taking the most direct route.
Great hotel at a great location”
Had a great stay in Mini Hotel Central. Staffs are friendly and helpful, rooms are clean and cosy although it is quite small. Very accessible to shopping areas, great variety of eateries around. Walkable distance to Central MTR and Hong Kong stations. and it is just a stone throw away from Lang Kwai Fong. Definitely will go back again.
Super great location for night life lovers”
Location is super great, few minutes walk from MTR central which can go everywhere in Hong Kong. Especially for night life lovers, it is 1 minute away from the famous Lan Kwai Fong, clubs, pubs and foreigners. Price is reasonable and it is value for money. Staffs are helpful. Still, room is super small which is why it is called mini hotel. I found room size is a bit different from only my eyes. My room is a bit smaller from my friend's. So, it really depends which room you got. This is my second visit and I am sure there will be next time. Love the location!
Good location and affordable”
Extremely affordable to stay in the center of the city. Space is an issue but that is everywhere in Hong Kong. In the end, you just need a place to sleep! The lobby is spacious and relaxed to hang out. Rooms are clean and there is roomservice everyday. Staff is really friendly and helpful. For the price paid, it is really worth to stay here. Just don't bring too many luggage with you and you will survive and enjoy. I had a great time, thanks Mini Central!
Hotel that lives up to its name”
the hotel really live up to its reputation: very small. having said that, the location is very convenient! it's just less than 5 minutes walking distance to nightlife hotspot, lan kwai fong, 5-10 minutes away from central mrt station, hong kong station (to go to the airport), hong kong-macau harbour, as well as tram station to go up to tai ping shan. there are a lot of eateries around, and quite a number of them were featured in travel book, such as the 50 years old dim sum shop, the origin of yin yong (milk coffee mix with milk tea), etc..
Lovely hotel in great location”
Hotel located in the heart of Central district. Only 2mins walk to famous pub areas LAN Kwai Fong. Abt 10 mins walk to the peak tram station. Very conveniently located and it's only 5mins walk to the nearest MTR Central station which can connect you to anywhere in Hong Kong and Kowloon. Hotel room is very small but it's comfortable. Aircond was strong and hotel staff were very helpful.

Excellent crash pad in central cbd location”
Despite a few less than positive reviews on here I went ahead and booked The Mini in Central HK Island for 9 night vacation. Provided you accept that the rooms are very tiny just enough room for a double bed and that you can often hear what your neighbours are up to for myself as a single traveller they place was just fine. Location couple streets up above Central station (be prepared to climb stairs on way back) the place was very clean and modern. TV wasn't great reception but most of the time you'd wanna be out doing all the great things HK has to offer shopping , eating , partying and sightseeing. With an Octopus card you could be anywhere in the Hong Kong or Kowloon islands within 25 mins max. Would definately stay again.
