I loved the easy access to the buses, the homeless people kept to themselves, and the staff were very helpful.

Nice Place To Stay”
The room had everything we needed including small fridge, microwave and sink. Beds were extremely comfortable and we were appreciative of that. Staff were lovely and very willing to help out. Breakfast was nice enough - choice of juices, cereal, toast, hot drinks and also fruit. A bit like a youth hostel set up and was a great opportunity to meet other people. Location is not the best. It is a fifteen minute walk to Union Square (where the public transport ends). Expect to see many beggars and not so savoury characters on the streets, often lying on the pavement. Having said that, we were not harassed as we chose to ignore everyone and look straight ahead and walk quickly in this area. I would definitely recommend this hotel however possibly not for a single female traveller. Just find someone else to walk with and you should be fine. For the money we paid, we could not have found better value. Thanks MInna Hotel for a great stay :)
Value for money in SF”
Minna Hotel is a newly renovated place with good security located in a very convenient place in SF. Buses and trams were close by and it was a 7-10 minute walk to the closest train station (Civic Center/UN Plaza Station). South of Market would not be ideal for solo female travellers or young families. There are bound to be homeless people in any city you visit. The ones in SF were harmless and you can just avoid them by walking on the opposite if there were many groups of them or just avoid any contact. My friend and I are female travellers and we kept alert at all times especially at night when walking back to our hotel. The facilities including the shared bathrooms and toilets were clean and well-kept, and I really liked their communal area. There was always plenty of food for breakfast, which was a plus. They also had a range of tea/coffee and juices in the morning. The lift was a big plus too. There were no fans or air-conditioning (they may have installed new ones by now) in our room so we had to open the windows at night for ventilation. However, there were always traffic noises and shouting from the passerbys or groups below our hotel.
Very nice place in town”
Amazing hotel with the best value for money. Don't pay attention to the reviews from bitter miserable people saying the street is full of dodgy homeless people. All lies, you may see one here and there, but they will leave you alone and that's the whole San Francisco, it's not specific to the street the hotel is in. Nothing to fear, the hotel is very safe. Comfy beds and get location. I will go back!
Weekend Vacay”
My 2 kids & I were in SF for a weekend getaway. The Minna is located within a short walking distance to public transportation and Little markets. The price is very reasonable for where and what this hotel is. The front desk staff is very friendly & accommodating. Breakfast was nothing special but it was ready & there was really good coffee. Our room was on the 3 floor & right next to the bathroom. It was big enough for the three of us to stow bags & crash at night. It has a mini fridge, microwave, sink, & tv. It’s not fancy but we didn’t spend much time in it anyway. It was very noisy from slamming doors, talking through walls, and walking in the hall. The bathroom was large enough for me but if you’re very pregnant or a wide person, it may not be. It was not sanitized but was clean. The shower room was less clean. It’s really a closet that’s been converted into a shower. The water ran under the door and out onto the hall floor. The neighborhood is REALLY scary after 9pm.
Very good”
The location of the hotel wasnt that ideal as there are homeless downstair the hotel and might be a little dangerous but Minna hotel has good security system as they only allow hotel guest with cards to tap in at all times. And for the check out, due to some unseen circumstances, im wasnt able to check out at 11 and would need another 30 mins and the guy at the check out understand my situation and he allowed me to extend for anther 30 mins.Good for budget traveller
solid accommodation for a reasonable price ”
the personnel was always very forthcoming and helpful, the rooms are perfectly fine for the price (pretty dusty at the edges between the carpet and wall, but well, in that price range acceptable imo). breakfast was included and perfectly fine as well. union square area has some problems with the homeless people, but we never had issues and also left our "luxury" type rental parked right outside on minna street for one night without a problem. I would come here again.
Good”
Rustic hotel with the special San Francisco charm. The hotel is located down town close to Marketstreet. Therefore, one must inevitably expect homeless people on the street, which is not a special feature of the Minna Hotel, but concerns ALL hotels in this region. But since they don’t harm anyone, it’s not a problem anyway. The hotel has everything you need, the rooms were clean, the staff always friendly.
Clean and best value hotel in San Francisco”
Clean and nice hotel in San Francisco. Very good value for money. Breakfast is included and very good. The neighbourhood is not the best but it does not really make a differ
Great stay”
Really enjoyed our stay here, and it was incredibly cheap compared to other places in San Francisco. The location was okay, could be difficult to sleep as it is a bit of a rough area, so had lots of people shouting outside. Otherwise, not to far from places, could catch the bus/tram easily. Super clean, shared bathrooms and showers were really nice.
Not the best, but cheap and did the job.”
Minna Hotel is in a very bad area of town. However, the hotel itself is very safe. You have to swipe a card to get into your building, elevator, room, and restrooms. The room is much smaller than the picture. There was no dresser and there was no screen in the window. There is also no A/C. The bathrooms felt dirty so bring shower shoes. There are towels provided but there are no paper towels in the bathroom. On the floor I stayed in, there was a bathroom with 2 toilets and 2 sinks, another bathroom with a shower, sink, and toilet, and another room with only a shower. There are no hooks to hang your towel or clothing in the bathroom and the floors feel dirty. Since we were only at this hotel everyday from 11pm-8am, it was worth the stay. You get what you pay for! If you are on a budget and don't mind dirtiness or small rooms, I would stay here. I do not recommend this for families. Also, the breakfast was very limited.
If you like downtown, a reasonable stay ”
Nice reasonable place to stay in the mess that downtown San Francisco has become. Only major drawback is street parking is iffy. Free parking is available but limited. Off street is $25.
Amazing for the price ”
The breakfast was really good, toast, fruit, cereals, juice and all day free coffee (which was good coffee). This was one of the cheapest places we could find in San Fran and so it was a bargain. Rooms were clean and included fridge, sink, TV and microwave. The only small negative was the area but it's only one street and then it's an amazing area. It's really close to loads of transport and so easier to walk or bus around. Don't let the 2 min walk down one street put you off!
Great Place / poor location”
Great facilities, great room - great price good internet, free coffee all day and nice breakfast However the location is a bit ... out there! - We were advised not to park outside and leave the car, so we had to drive down the road, found a hotel with valet and secure parking and bribed the valet like $80 - which was a good price for how long we wanted. Safer than the alternative So the road has bars, shops, nice food places but also hella Junkies!! A place across the road was giving out free needles - I saw two junkies get hit by a car, separate occasions ! When you get to the end of the road - it turns to a normal city high street and is like 10 mins walk from the main fancy shopping square Crazy place!
dangerous at night ”
I am a woman in the 20s and will write down what I've felt in Minna Hotel for five days. 1. Location The location is very near to downtown San Francisco because you can get to station less than 10 minutes by walk. However, there are so many homeless smoking drugs and they smell really bad. It was horrible and I was thinking of changing hostel even though I could not get refund. If I were not with my friend, I would not even get to hotel. I felt like being in a horror game while going home. I would strongly recommend you to take uber at night (after 9pm) to get to hotel. 2. Cleanliness I stayed there for five days and changed the room on the third day. In the first room, there was no sink and far from the shared bathroom because the room was located on the edge of the hall. The first room even didn't have sink in there -the second room had it-. Also, the first room smells really bad. I thought it was like dog's urine. but the second room didn't. so wish you luck if you already booked
Bring earplugs.”
Even though we were given a room up on the 3rd floor that faced the quieter street that Minna adjoins, the noise made sleep very difficult. The doors were also very difficult to close, which meant that you could hear every time another guest went into or out of their room.
Was nice! Foi legal!”
Actually, was very nice! I do recommend this hotel for everyone. The front staff was very kind and helpful. The room was little, but confortable. Whenever you want it clean, just let them know. The room has a sink inside, what helps manytimes. The restroom is shared. In spite of this, I had no problem with that. All the time that I used, the restroom were clean and nice. On the other hand, the location was kind of weird! But, Just ignore the people walking crazy on the street, and you'll be fine. And also, it was around three blocks away from the main street. That's fine. Just be aware.
If you don't mind to share bathroom and restroom, you can come to stay with Minna Hotel.”
Also parking is an issue. You need to oark on street and it's free after 6pm, but you should be lucky for it ^^. The noise outside the room at night is abit loud as there is a convenient store opposite the alley. Above all, everything else is pretty much okay for the price you pay in San Francisco.
A value hotel - everything except location is good”
Location itself is great since everything is in vicinity, so that it will be very nice to be taken as a basecamp for the solo travellers. However, the streets around this hotel is quite poor. It is safe but with a lot of homeless people, so that taxi drivers advised me not to walk around at late night. Nonetheless, this is reflected to the great deal this hotel offers. I satisfied quite much!
Nice hotel”
We like the hotel it self, there is nothing you can do about the situation outside of the hotel, that is san francisco it self already about the homeless people.
Cheap hotel San fran”
Nice hotel good breakfast shared bathroom good security good location just off market Street quite a lot of homeless people but no hassle would stay again
