Close to the JR Station, with car parking Bath and Toilet both are outside the room, however it is very clear. I would like to recommend if you would like to feeling what is Japanese Culture. Please remember keep quiet when you stay inside the room as the wall are building by wooden.
Great Experience ”
Great Ryokan experience! Very friendly host and good vibes :)
Liked staying not too far from the train with a temple view”
Quiet spot. I liked seeing the old temple from my window. Happy a toilet was close to my room. The onsen was pleasant. The town was full of tourists but if you walk a little out of town , it is peaceful and scenic and the large park where the old castle site is high up on the hill is great to walk around.
Lovely Japanese style hostel. Very close to train station. But you need to reserve your breakfast one day in advance. Staff didn't tell me this, when I saw the notice on the wall and tried to book the staff said it's too late.
Basic comfort ”
For the price, the minshuku is good value because of its location. The rooms are on the first and second floors but the men's bath and toilet are on the ground floor. There is no lift so it's a trudge up and down the stairs if you have to go in the middle of the night!
Came back a second time”
Great location near JR station and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Price was very reasonable for what you got. The Ryokan is in a quiet location and the rooms are very clean. This was our second stay and it was as good as the first. I recommend.
Good value for experiencing traditional Japanese”
The hotel was actually higher than our expectation as I expected a hotel close to backpacker type. The rooms have traditional tatami, and the shared bath / bathroom are located close to the rooms for easy access. The only problem I had was the noise, any sound you make basically transfers through the entire house.
Great location but small rooms”
Minshuku Kuwataniya Hotel is a great hotel. It has a good location althought the room is quite small. But it also has a big car park for parking which is free. There is a famous restaurant 丸明, but it close at 20:30. The most pity was we went there from Nagoya and arrived hotel almost 20:00, so we can't have dinner there.
Wonderful taste of traditional style ryokan”
Once you accept you are not at home this place is fantastic. Tatami floors, communal bathing in an Onsen and superb traditional local style breakfast, all made this an experience to remember. Host speaks little English (but I speak no Japanese so...) but manages to communicate effectively. Easy walking distance to both railway and bus stations and so many restaurants.
Lovely little ryokan”
This was possibly the cleanest accommodation I’ve ever stayed in, anywhere ever! It isn’t luxury, but it has everything you need. I did find it a little confusing when they first switched the bathroom and onsen from ladies on the second floor to men’s (no one pointed out to us prior that this is often switched depending on male/female guest ratios or whatever) and so I was lucky not to be caught out in all my glory! Aside from that one confusing adjustment, all was great. Our beds (Japanese mattress on the floor) was warm, clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay here.
well location with clean room and nice staff
Very comfortable hotel
Great place to stay in Takayama. Super comfy. Just note there is no elevator, so it'll be difficult if you bring big suitcase.
Every thing is good, but no bath room for the twin room(3rd floor) that we booked, even outside the room, only public bath for ladies on 2nd floor.
Value-for-Money Ryokan Experience”
We stayed 2 nights at this ryokan and had a wonderful and comfortable stay. It was only a short walk from the JR Takayama station and we did not have any trouble pulling our heavy luggage from the station to the ryokan. Upon checking in, you'll find a ready flask of hot water with green tea sachets and Japanese rice crackers waiting in your room. Thought it was a nice touch. The flask of hot water is also refilled daily. As with most traditional ryokans, there is no lift and it can be difficult if you're traveling with a huge/heavy luggage. There is also no toilet/shower in your own room. The male and female toilets were located on different floors so it can be inconvenient if you've to go upstairs/downstairs just to use the toilet. The public shower area (separate for men and women) includes a small indoor onsen. Shower area and toilets were kept very clean. Do note that the shower area is only open at certain times of the day (7am-10am and 4pm-10pm).
Great place to stay”
Lovely, quiet place to stay. Extremely comfortable after a few nights of heavy hostel-ing as a solo traveler. Great place to recharge. Although there is a gas heater that leaks fumes and smells horrible when it's on, I'm sure the manager will fix it when they are able to. Great place otherwise, would recommend.
Clean ryokan that was 15 mins walk from the station, and not difficult to locate using Google Maps. 20 mins walk away from main tourist attractions. But Takayama is a small city. Although it was a shared bathroom, we had no problems with it, and all basic amenities were available. Room remained sufficiently warm thought out our stay despite the cold winter. Note that there's no elevator and if your room is not on the first floor you'd have to carry your luggages up. Overall satisfactory stay. Thank you, Kuwataniya!
Clean and cosy room + great service from staff!”
The location was easily accessible by walking from Takayama Station even with luggages in tow. There are plenty of restaurants nearby. As takayama is quite a small town, we walked everywhere! The ryokan Japanese room was spacious for 2, with wardrobes and futons. The room was warm enough during winter too. The shared onsen (public bath) for ladies was located just next to my room so that's definitely a plus! The futons and pillows were very comfortable. The whole place felt like a comfortable home. Highly recommended! Thanks for the great service from the staff! Appreciate it. :)
Close to Takayama JR station, kidness keeper, home sweet home style”
Around 10min walk from Takayama JR station & Nohi bus station. There is an ancient japanese temple at the front of this hotel. A lot shops and restaurants are located around. You can take a another 5-10mins walk to the Takayama main street for shopping or having a dinner. The hotel's keeper is very helpful but dont expect she can speak english. Simple body language is workable. One of the main point for picking this hotel, it is very clean. U dont need the worry anything about the tidiness. They have a hot spring bath room, even they dont have any room with private washroom and I have totally no problem with this.
Good basic accomodation”
Great location right between train station and restaurants / attractions. Clean basic rooms. Really got a sense of home here as the owner is very sweet (but speaks limited english). Was a little pricey for what it was but maybe in part because most the hotels across city were all full that weekend
