Interesting space, great location, personal touches”

I really enjoyed my stay at the Moller Villa! The price was on-point, the building is unique and I appreciated the warm, personal touches in my room. It was not as modern as the first hotel where I stayed in Shanghai but so much more welcoming. The breakfast was superb, a great way to start my days of sightseeing. I also appreciated the fresh fruit and cookies that were in my room, which I ate for dinner after a particularly difficult night out and came back to the hotel very hungry. I also loved the neighborhood -- I intended to spend a lot of time in the French Concession and I was happy that the hotel was centrally located. As for the service, language barriers aside the staff did their best to communicate with and help me as best they could.

Old World Hotel in Shanghai”

Beautiful building, nice rooms
Not much English spoken

Moller Villa hotel is a beautiful renovation of a mansion built by an industrialist in the early 20th Century. The rooms are excellent and the location is superb. The restaurant has good Shanghai cuisine although the breakfast is below par. On balance, I would recommend this as a good place to stay, particularly for tourists who do not need first class business center facilities.

A different view of Shanghai”

Setting and style

the moller villa is a unique property. this can be perfect if you seek something more personal and warm than a major hotel. the rooms are larger and the decor is classic with beautiful carved wood trim throughout. opt for the breakfast. it is a large buffet style with classic english dishes as well as a sampling of chinese dishes. there was only a little english available over the several days we stayed here so be prepared with your own directions for cabs and sites you may want to visit. we rate this a wonderful experience.

Exceptional”

This charming hotel is unexpected, an old villa situated among modern skyscrapers. It is an architectural gem, with intricate woodwork on walls, ceilings and floors, and two-story high stained glass windows in the reception area. Rooms are adequately spacious, clean and decorated in a style appropriate to the era. The restaurant is excellent, providing a tasty and varied breakfast (included with the room) and delicious dinner selections. The staff is friendly and competent, and I learned that they will go way beyond their duties: one rainy evening it was impossible to find a taxi, so Evan drove me to my destination when his shift ended at 8:00 pm -- and compensation was out of the question, as far as he was concerned. I have recommended this hotel to several acquaintances who will be visiting Shanghai, and expect to stay there again the next time I am in Shanghai. Such a refreshing departure from the huge ultra-modern Chinese hotels!

A real Castle!”

I really enjoyed my stay at Moller Villa. It really has the castle feeling. The room was big and looked awesome. I likes all amenities they provided and complimentary items were very unique. It is 10 mins walk from subway, but you should know which exit to take from subway. They have a 24 hrs taxi service and the price was very fair to the airport.

Charming Hideaway in the Middle of Shanghai”

Charm, quiet, good front office service, good breakfast

this was my second stay at moller villa and i have just booked another at the end of this month. i like the hotel's location, its ambiance (gardens, art and architecture), and its relative solitude and quiet. the rooms are also charming, clean, and well kept. the breakfast buffet is much improved, and very pleasant. staff are friendly and helpful, expecially at the reception.

Clean Big Rooms
Breakfast no variety

moller villa is just few streets away from the main shopping area and yet tuck in a interesting area of the city. good to explore the vicinity and u will get some good finds. the rooms are clean and bright, however, it's next to a school, so noise might get to those light sleepers.

Castle in the middle of the city - delightful!”

lovely setting, spacious rooms, and friendly staff

Stayed at the Moller for 2 nights, and thoroughly enjoyed the location and the comforts. It is not a typical Chinese hotel, and not a cookie-cutter; it truly is a boutique hotel with charm and grace. The only negative - taxis had an awful time finding it. Request the map and cross streets up front in Chinese.

Very nice and comfortable hotel.”

Well equipped and relatively large rooms, comfortable beds, which are not rock hard like in many Chinese hotels, helpful staff.

the hotel was very comfortable in spite of the fact that our hotel room window overlooked a glass roof and was so close to the building on the other side, that anybody could see into our room if the curtains were not drawn. the beds were a real treat as often in smaller hotels in china they tend to be awfully hard. the reception staff were generally very helpful and so were the bell boys who seemed to know more about things around the hotel than some of the receptionists. the only snag was the fact that there was no direct link to the main part of the villa, where the restaurant and the bar were. you have to go out, which might not be very pleasant if it rains or is very cold. also, the restaurant could not provide an evening meal because of overbooking. there are no bar facilities before 8 o'clock in the evening and then they seem to be closed after 9! i could not see if drinks were served in the hotel lobby, which is in the hotel wing of the villa. they did not have a map of shanghai or the area which would be really helpful for visitors from abroad. in spite of all these shortcomings i would certainly recommend the hotel.

Amazing hotel. "Old World" luxury. Great Location.”

Style. Historical building. Luxourious. Excellent service. Good location

A truelly incredible hotel with beautiful historical buildings set in the modern sprawl of Shanghai. What a contrast!!! The service and quality of the rooms was excellent. We got all this at a VERY special price. Almost "too good to be true"!! But it was all there and we felt very special staying there. The only negative point was that an old style building has small rooms and things were a tight squeeze with all the baggage we had.

Great hotel in the old French borough of Shanghai”

Perfect situation, small and quite hotel, free internet, old fantasy house

We returned to this hotel for the second year. We like the perfect situation (a nice 10' walk from the hotel to 2 different metro station makes everywhere in Shanghai easy to reach). The free W-Lan internet access is very convenient, breakfast is included (more Chinese than European, better if you like Chinese food). The service is good although most of the staff has limited English knowledge. We were upgraded to a "feature room" in the old building (most rooms are in the new building): nice looking, large but on the second floor without elevator and very uncomfortable compared to the Superior Business room which is perfect.

Moller Villa - one night stay”

VERY comfy bed. Room as described. Amazing building and good location (very close to Jing'an Temple metro).
Be careful of the address Believe it or not both roads exist so make sure you go to the "double a" version - needless to say we did not!!

We only stayed for one night and we had to leave for the airport too early for breakfast the next day. However, the hotel was very comfortable, very quiet, the room facilities were excellent inclduing the internet tv etc. Should we return to Shanghai then we would probably opt to stay at Moller Villa again.

Elegantly restored historic house

We knew of this building and were delighted to see that it had become a Hotel. We booked not expecting anything wonderful. We're very surprised at the comfort of the room, the excellent bathroom, the quality of the furnishings. The public areas were beautiful. The staff were friendly and spoke English. The breakfast was plentiful and western dishes were on offer. Taxis were available at the door but the metro was only ten minutes walk away. We will return to this Hotel. Two small complaints: No WiFi in room only in lobby area. the price of mint tea for two people in lobby was extortionate. Tea and coffee available in the room was free!

hotel really beatiful, nice place, good staff, and quality details.
No good english or any other languages but chinese spoken, room service a little bit caos, expensive restaurant.

This hotel must be visited nevertheless it seems that some improvements have to be done in order to compete with modern hotels placed close to Moller Villa. To me has more pros than cons but I think that next time I´ll try to get a more modern hotel.
