the great facility and services but far away from ”
Everything was perfect except for the location. There are a lot of maple trees around the ryokan so the fall is the best season to enjoy this ryokan. If you have enough time to travel in Kyoto, this ryokan is the best.

not recommended at all”
This ryokan provides shuttle bus but once you miss that, it is very inconvenient to get there. We called in advance that we may not be able to catch up the shuttle, receptionist told us that we have to take a taxi at our own cost. Later on we managed to find out that there was a direct bus from Kyoto city center to get to right in front of the ryokan by ourselves. It was very far to get to ryokan but at least we did not need to take taxi for 25 minutes from the closest train station which was instructed by the ryokan receptionist. We expected a good service, nice room, great food... all disappointed. Once we arrived, it was around 19pm. They rushed us to go to the dinner lounge area to have dinner right after the check-in (dinner wasn't served in the room, we had to take stairs to get to the restaurant area). The room was very old, tatami carpet was too old that the surface wasn't even straight), old toilet & bath room, old wooden style door for the room entry with alminium made door knob, everything except the nature view was disappointed. Dinner was way below the ryokan average, very loud in the restaurant, disappointing hospitality level etc. Onsen (hot spring) bathrooms were super tiny. They have two onsen (one for man and the other one for woman), they switch it in the morning so that we can experience both at the end). It was one of the smallest public bath as ryokan onsen we ever experienced. If someone is in the bath tub (onsen), you would probably hesitate to go in it. The size is like little bigger that what we have at home. The window can be opened wide open but it is not Roten (outside) style. The nature view which can be seen from the bath tub is amazing but nothing more. There were some other guests from C country, they were talking loud, dipping themselves into the onsen water with underwear & Japanese pajama (yukata). As it really was a small public bath, it was really stressful just to enjoy Onsen. Shuttle bus is leaving from Ryokan to the closes

Great first Ryokan experience ”
Rustic and lush surroundings at this 100 year old ryokan. The initial greeting into the ryokan was incredibly warm and welcoming. Room is warm and spacious. Sleeping on Tatami mats and the entire floor set up was similar to an adult slumber party made comfortable with all the amenities of an attentive staff. Beautifully served food. We chose the dinner and breakfast option. Make sure to reserve for a shuttle to pick you up from JR Hanazono station. We stayed for one night and definitely was a great decompressing experience from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. Also, reserve the private onsen after dinner or prior to breakfast. Lush landscapes of the mountains in Kyoto. Great small hikes to temples and beautiful scenery.

Exceptional”
Momijiya is a perfect place for travelers looking for a traditional Ryokan, it's located in the mountains with really nice view of trees and jungle. Private onsen is available for couple for only 2,700 JYP (fees for entire place), public bath at no cost. The rooms are limited so you can expect little guests. Staffs at momijiya are very friendly, they greet you every time they see you. Dinner and breakfast are provided. Shuttle bus available but RESERVATION IS NEEDED! I overlooked on that and had big trouble finding my way to the hotel.

Extremely helpful staff, wonderful meals, great experience!”
I really loved staying here, and so did my 3 friends. The meals were fun, because we didn't know what some of the food was, but we tried it all! We definitely left stuffed after dinner and breakfast. Did the private Onsen, but I hear the public one was empty a lot, you can save money if you want to take that risk. We were shy and never been in one, so we did the private one, and the views were awesome. I seriously loved everything about this place!

Cozy Ryokan, Lovely place”
20 minutes from City, on the mountain road. Warmly welcome, delicious meal (dinner & breakfast) and open-air hot bath (optional). I love this one.

Amazing experience ”
My husband and I came here as part of our honeymoon trip. Everyone must experience a ryokan in japan! The location was beautiful and the staff was incredibly accommodating. They spoke plenty of English. I am normally strict vegetarian but have been trying shrimp in Japan, but I would still be fine as vegetarian here. Everyone in Japan is nice but they really went the extra mile here. We did private baths AM & PM. If you only do one, do AM as the view is lovely. Beds were extra cozy with heat packs at our feet, and rooms have Shiseido face products. Luxury! We forgot a water and some cash in our bath robes, and the staff was so quick to catch us on our shuttle out. So impressed with this experience!

relaxing and comfortable experience”
Nice hotel for couples and family. A bit far away from city though, difficult to get public transportation if missed the shuttle bus services provided by hotel. The shared hot bath tub is amazing and clean. The staffs are friendly and polite, they made our bed during dinner time. The dinner and breakfast is delicious and traditional.
