Ryokan with beautiful view of the mountains”
This ryokan has a stunning view of the mountains, especially in the Autumn. It's conveniently placed in between three famous temples. The staff was extremely professional and warm. The baths are clean and nicely decorated. I highly recommend the private baths. The baths are located on top of a mountain and need to be booked beforehand but have amazing views. Dinner and breakfast are included. The kaiseki meals were excellent.

    great escape”
amazing little ryokan in the mountains of kyoto. staff is very friendly and attentive. as others mentioned, the shuttle will pick you up from hanazono station. The food was amazing with option of booking private onsen. Unfortunately we did not visit during the summer time, so we did not get the chance to have dinner by the river with geisha performances. Will definitely be back next time we are in kyoto!

A very nice place to relax, we booked the private onsen and enjoy the onsen with nice scenery. The dinner and breakfast so beautiful and taste nice. We regret only stay 1 night, so not able to move around. Next visit will stay 2 nights to enjoy the breathtaking scenery.

    Would stay again”
This ryokan was a little out of the way but because of that, it was beautiful with the mountains as a backdrop. You do have the option to do a private onsen for 1-2x people for a little more money, which was nice and really relaxing. The keiseki was good but because they bring more than one course at a time, it does get a little confusing. Overall, it was a great experience and one that I would repeat!

The shuttle bus pick up was smooth and easily found right out of the station. We were warmly welcomed by staff and well-briefed of our stay. Green tea, meals, amenities and facilities were impressive. View from the rooms and scene around the hotel are breathtaking. Temples around the hotel are must-see too! We love our stay there!

    Great Japanese Style Hotel ”
This hotel had it all! While the hotel did take some time to get to from Kyoto, the staff literally ran to us to greet us outside with a warm welcome. The hotel has both public and private baths. The public bath times change genders so you can experience both rooms. They are both lovely, but one of them includes an outdoor bath overlooking the mountains (absolutely breathtaking!) The private bath was the same way, overlooking the mountains. When we arrived we were surprised to find that there was a special meal provided during the summer months. The meal was served riverside with lanterns lit along the river. The meal was marvelous. The final surprise was that at the end of dinner there were maikos who met with us and then performed. From what I understand in the winter time dinner and the show is still provided but not riverside. Finally, the room also met our expectations. Our room included a bath and toilet along with a fridge and seating area with a mountain view! There are some rooms that also include a balcony bath, but it was out of our price range. I would definitely recommend staying at Momijiya, you won't regret it. It was one of the highlights of our time in Japan!

Momijiya is a perfect place for travelers looking for a traditional Ryokan, it's located in the mountains with really nice view of trees and jungle. Private onsen is available for couple for only 2,700 JYP (fees for entire place), public bath at no cost. The rooms are limited so you can expect little guests. Staffs at momijiya are very friendly, they greet you every time they see you. Dinner and breakfast are provided. Shuttle bus available but RESERVATION IS NEEDED! I overlooked on that and had big trouble finding my way to the hotel.

    a secluded, tranquil tradtional hotel”
Located at hillside offering a tranquil and secluded feel and environment. Nearby is a stream with beautiful forest scenery espcially early in the morning when I spent a walk around. Staff are very friendly, courteous and helpful. Only downside is the onsen is too small, enough for a few people only.

Excellent food, service, location, and rooms with high value”
The room embraces a beautiful landscpae that brings the serenity in the mountain hill. The view of osen is also excellent, especially the private bath is a must try and the additional fee is not much. The food is definitely excellent to a high standard. The service was perfect and the staff are very friendly. It was an outstanding stay that makes us want to go back again. Highly recommanded.

    not worth stay”
When I made the booking for June in march , the charge reflected was different from the actual charge at the hotel . check in though at 3pm but the shuttle only pick up at station at 315 . by the time u reach ryokan , it s already around 4 pm . then check out time to take the shuttle is at 920 am . so in effect you are staying less than 1 day and that leaves you very little time to do anything. unless you have othet mode of transport which i think it s difficult given the inaccessibility of this place , i would not recommend this place. service of staff is polite and friendly but the food i would only say for a kinseki meal , it s really not worth the charge I paid. Public bath is so small..The most can only fit 3 small built people and it s not spring water. Regret choosing this place and I m still waiting for Agoda to get back to me about the price difference.

The communal bath was a little small, but very clean and modest nonetheless. Stayed for 2 nights, the meals were great, and each guest had a different set according to when they first arrived. Futon was really nice, and included a small portable kotatsu that they would place inside so your feet stayed warm. Loved the little touches including the green tea (great quality) and snacks. Note that there are 2 different ryokans - Honkan is not the one by the river - but it was wonderful all the same. The shuttle service to and from town was perfect for my plans.

    Needs a refurbishment badly”
Not recommended to pay for almost $370/night. Very old ryokan, toilet reeks of urine smell, shower room is in a really bad state that we chose to shower at the public bath area instead. Public bath is old and u can see moldy wood everywhere. Hair dryers were broken at both bath areas..seriously for $370/night? Food is presented beautifully but consists of mainly preserved food. Not to my group’s liking. Overall, we were very glad to check out after a night stay. Staff’s attentiveness is over-the-top, so much that we felt that we are under their scrutiny from the moment we stepped out of the room.

Excellent Value w/ a Superbly Friendly Staff!”
I was looking for a ryokan during my two-week vacation in Japan to split the hotel stays and experience staying at a traditional Japanese inn. I saw plenty of pricey ryokans and came across Momijiya Honkan which was cheaper than other ryokans I researched but still had great reviews. I can easily say that this ryokan was the best value for the price I paid and the friendliness of the staff exceeded my expectations! The free shuttle from just outside JR Hanazono Station is very convenient, staff was extremely friendly (the entire staff waved goodbye to us on our last day as our shuttle took off and it was very heartwarming), dinner was very filling and not typically things I would order at a restaurant (a good thing), and the view from our "non view" room was still awesome (part road, part mountain). I highly recommend this place!

    1st royykan experience. Amazing!! ”
This hotel was everything advertised and more. Shuttle pickup from hanazo station was prompt. Communication via email in English was available and fluent. Everything from the first meeting with fresh hot tea to the breakfast and dinner was outstanding. Many more courses then we could even eat! So delicious. We spring for a private onsen for 28 usd. It's 45 minutes and by reservation. Even though it was rainy outside staff walked us up outside stairs to the mountain side with unbrellas. It was truly private with a. Gorgeous view. My husband and I truely enjoyed every moment. We wish we could have stayed more than one night but it was an amazing gift to find this place and it's wonderful staff.

    A must experience in Japan”
The service and food quality totally overexceed expectations. The amount of detail and care they put is the best I have seen on a hotel. We recommend you to Google "ryokan guide" before going, so you now how to wear the Yucatan and how to use the baths. The hotel is 50 minutes by bus in the mountains, easily reachable with the hotel suttle or the public bus J3 from Kyoto station (The JR pass is valid). The area has three temples, one of them world heritage. Really nice area for a 2/3 hours excursion. We didnt book the private bath but I would do it next time. The dinner and breakfast are outstanding.
