Not deserve this price”
I stayed one night. In general it is not worth the price. 100years old ryokan but many parts looks not traditional. Private bath was not clean, public bath was small(3seats only) I stayed in Keiunkan which have 1000years history, cant compare with that. But similar price with different service and facilities. One thing good here is that you can visit old temple in the mountain nearby ryokan.
We love our stay here!”
This was our first time staying in ryokan and it was indeed an amazing experience! From their hospitality to every little detail. Firstly, for the shuttle bus service, make sure you message them through agoda and let them know you need need the service and they will reply to you with instruction. Look for the bus that has red sticker with 'MOMIJAYA'. The dinner and breakfast were impressive! We booked a private onsen and we're glad we did because the view is the best! Thank you for the great experience and I will recommend you to come and try them.
We really enjoyed out stay, it's a bit far to get too, but hotel has arrange the shutter bus to pick us up from the train station. Food were amazing, we rent the private bath for an hour, absolutely beautiful!
The Annex is the true Ryokan set down by the river. Plenty of food for breakfast and dinner served by delightful staff. I believe a geisha performs sometimes but not for us. The outdoor private bath was lovely.
ฺBest Hospitality in a majestic place”
We loved every bit of our stay in Momijiya, me and my friends spoke countless times of how great it is that we decided to stay there. We did a lot of searching for a Ryokan beforehand and took a shot with Momijiya. The place sits an hour away by bus from the inner city of Kyoto, but it wasnt an issue for us as we really enjoyed the view going up. We were greeted with warm welcome by staff at the bus stop and check-in was a breeze. We booked the Private bath in the evening, and it was superb, highly recommended. The view was breath taking and the facilities were new and well prepared. We walked around to a couple of temples along the river near the hotel, that was nice as well! More than the place itself is the people. The staff really went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable as they could. It was the first time I asked to take pictures with one of the hotel's staff, Obachan was so nice... <3 Thank you All in all, highly recommend this hotel :) Nothing short of amazing!!
Ryokan with beautiful view of the mountains”
This ryokan has a stunning view of the mountains, especially in the Autumn. It's conveniently placed in between three famous temples. The staff was extremely professional and warm. The baths are clean and nicely decorated. I highly recommend the private baths. The baths are located on top of a mountain and need to be booked beforehand but have amazing views. Dinner and breakfast are included. The kaiseki meals were excellent.
The staff is nice and helpful ”
Good stay at Momijiya, delicious food and the service was perfect
amazing little ryokan in the mountains of kyoto. staff is very friendly and attentive. as others mentioned, the shuttle will pick you up from hanazono station. The food was amazing with option of booking private onsen. Unfortunately we did not visit during the summer time, so we did not get the chance to have dinner by the river with geisha performances. Will definitely be back next time we are in kyoto!
Good place to relax”
A very nice place to relax, we booked the private onsen and enjoy the onsen with nice scenery. The dinner and breakfast so beautiful and taste nice. We regret only stay 1 night, so not able to move around. Next visit will stay 2 nights to enjoy the breathtaking scenery.
Nature-surrounded hotel. A bit far from center but worth the travel!”
The shuttle bus pick up was smooth and easily found right out of the station. We were warmly welcomed by staff and well-briefed of our stay. Green tea, meals, amenities and facilities were impressive. View from the rooms and scene around the hotel are breathtaking. Temples around the hotel are must-see too! We love our stay there!
Great Japanese Style Hotel ”
This hotel had it all! While the hotel did take some time to get to from Kyoto, the staff literally ran to us to greet us outside with a warm welcome. The hotel has both public and private baths. The public bath times change genders so you can experience both rooms. They are both lovely, but one of them includes an outdoor bath overlooking the mountains (absolutely breathtaking!) The private bath was the same way, overlooking the mountains. When we arrived we were surprised to find that there was a special meal provided during the summer months. The meal was served riverside with lanterns lit along the river. The meal was marvelous. The final surprise was that at the end of dinner there were maikos who met with us and then performed. From what I understand in the winter time dinner and the show is still provided but not riverside. Finally, the room also met our expectations. Our room included a bath and toilet along with a fridge and seating area with a mountain view! There are some rooms that also include a balcony bath, but it was out of our price range. I would definitely recommend staying at Momijiya, you won't regret it. It was one of the highlights of our time in Japan!
Momijiya is a perfect place for travelers looking for a traditional Ryokan, it's located in the mountains with really nice view of trees and jungle. Private onsen is available for couple for only 2,700 JYP (fees for entire place), public bath at no cost. The rooms are limited so you can expect little guests. Staffs at momijiya are very friendly, they greet you every time they see you. Dinner and breakfast are provided. Shuttle bus available but RESERVATION IS NEEDED! I overlooked on that and had big trouble finding my way to the hotel.
a secluded, tranquil tradtional hotel”
Located at hillside offering a tranquil and secluded feel and environment. Nearby is a stream with beautiful forest scenery espcially early in the morning when I spent a walk around. Staff are very friendly, courteous and helpful. Only downside is the onsen is too small, enough for a few people only.
Both Japanese dinner and breakfast are fantastic. The staffs of hotel are friendly, we had a warm welcome while we got there. The room is awesome but the public bath is quite small. Minor clogged drain issue in my room.
Excellent food, service, location, and rooms with high value”
The room embraces a beautiful landscpae that brings the serenity in the mountain hill. The view of osen is also excellent, especially the private bath is a must try and the additional fee is not much. The food is definitely excellent to a high standard. The service was perfect and the staff are very friendly. It was an outstanding stay that makes us want to go back again. Highly recommanded.
Would stay again”
This ryokan was a little out of the way but because of that, it was beautiful with the mountains as a backdrop. You do have the option to do a private onsen for 1-2x people for a little more money, which was nice and really relaxing. The keiseki was good but because they bring more than one course at a time, it does get a little confusing. Overall, it was a great experience and one that I would repeat!
This was the first Ryokan Onsen experience for us and the whole experience was amazing - the fabalous location ( river, woods, hills, trees ....) extreme friendly, helpful staff, delicious traditional meals, the magnificent open air hot spring bath ... we are already planning to go back for more!
Great Ryokan Experience”
We love everything here. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was great and the view was amazing!
The communal bath was a little small, but very clean and modest nonetheless. Stayed for 2 nights, the meals were great, and each guest had a different set according to when they first arrived. Futon was really nice, and included a small portable kotatsu that they would place inside so your feet stayed warm. Loved the little touches including the green tea (great quality) and snacks. Note that there are 2 different ryokans - Honkan is not the one by the river - but it was wonderful all the same. The shuttle service to and from town was perfect for my plans.
